So Yaoicon is coming up. I'll be in SF at the same time as the con, but I'm not so much going to be at the con. Have a couple things planned, including, of course, seeing GW-fandom people!!!!

However, one of the things I've got planned is going skydiving on Friday, October 30th. Liz ([livejournal.com profile] metallicapixie, Juliet ([livejournal.com profile] fiinedeiopeia) and Judy ([livejournal.com profile] thedreamerworld) are all coming with! So, seeing as how Liz is a poor college student, with a fear of heights....

HELP A GIRL OUT!

So yes, JUST purchased tickets to San Francisco (as well as a rental car -- $88 for the weekend)! I will be there during the weekend of Yaoicon, but I won't be buying a badge to the con. There are other things I'm intending to do -- skydiving, visiting the Winchester House, and going to see the annual Warp 11 Halloween show! And this time, Liz & Juliet, and maybe Judy will be going!

On Thursday, however, I intend to just kick back, hang out, and talk shop with friends I haven't seen in forever! [livejournal.com profile] yaoichick and [livejournal.com profile] badmomma64 are among the ones I know are going to Ycon this year. I need to arrange meet-ups!

You know what's weird? My flights are the same exact flights (with almost the same exact departure and arrival times) as my last flights to Ycon, back in 2007.

So I am in the Vienna airport right now, waiting to board my flight. They have free wireless here, which is awesome. Especially considering I was barely online ALL WEEK! I was talking with V about it when T asked back when we arrived in Vienna, and we decided that it's not so much that we're online for long periods of time, it's just that we're so used to having immediate access. And I know that that's very accurate in my case -- I'm not online all the time, but I do go online for a few minutes at a time whenever I feel like it.

In any case, I'm really glad to be going home!

And have been told that, apparently, I'm going to Tekkoshocon next weekend. In Pittsburgh. Sigh. I kind of wanted to go, and kind of didn't. I'll be glad to go and see people, but it's going to be a tiring weekend. Drive down Friday night after work -- it's a 6-7 hr drive, btw -- work at Anna's booth on Saturday, then drive back midday Sunday.

Other con news -- apparently NYAF dates have been changed to the last weekend in September. Which is the same weekend as Yaoicon. Which means I'm not sure what I'm going to do just yet. I may still go to Ycon, but I'm not 100% sure yet. ;_;

Ycon Report, or What I Did In SF While I Was Supposed To Be At Ycon.

I didn't get a wink of sleep on Wednesday night. My flight was Thursday at 7am, so I was up for a full 24 hours before the plane actually took off. But once I was on the plane and actually sitting down, I passed out so hard that I slept through take-off. ^^;

I had a great time driving around San Francisco! I was actually quite happy to have Judy who needed to go back and forth to her aunt's (who lives in SF), so that it gave us an excuse to drive around the city. I certainly am becoming more familiar with certain parts of the city than I was last time, that's for sure. Also, driving is a completely different experience when you've got a bunch of friends in the car and are chatting and listening to good music, etc., as opposed to driving when you're alone and tired.

We did the standard going to Japan Town on Thursday and, not surprisingly, met up with Christine, Sharon, Artemis, et al. It was nice to hang out with them. And though it was for a pretty short time, I think it was the longest I'd actually get to see and talk to them. It was a big change from last year. I think it's partially due to that this new con hotel's lobby is not really conducive to lounging and talking in relative privacy. At the Westin, the lobby was recessed and slightly away from the front desk. In that respect, the new con hotel wasn't the best. However, other aspects made this hotel very enjoyable -- the rooms are HUGE! The beds are pretty darn big too; they weren't doubles -- they were queens! We also happened to get first-floor rooms, which was really convenient. Also, the con rate for the rooms were so amazingly well-priced. Less than $100/night!

So unfortunately, I think I did even less con stuff than I usually do. Previously, I had gone to a panel or two. This year I bypassed everything and went straight to the dealers' room/art show/fan market. I did not pass go; certainly I did not collect $200. On the bright side, I spent under $30 at the con itself.

On the other hand, I spent almost $100 on dinner/club with Nicky and her boyfriend Ryan on Saturday night. But OMG, it was SO WORTH IT! The Supper Club is an awesomely entertaining place. You sit on a bed. And eat at a small table on the bed. There's a DJ and some live entertainment. Our host(ess) was a (very good-looking!) drag queen. One part of the live entertainment was a woman who did acrobatics on a rope that hung from the ceiling. It was HOT, beautiful, and impressive as hell -- she must be insanely strong! I wish I had brought my camera! I didn't actually get to stay and see Grand Master Flash because I had to leave before I got too tired to drive myself back to the hotel. >_<;

Ryan brought two bottles of red wine to share, which were delicious, and considering I usually don't like red wine, they were pretty damn good. The food was also really amazing. They serve a 5-course meal (you don't get to choose what you get, you just tell them if you have any allergies, etc.). One of the courses was a very lightly cooked salmon that was just heavenly. And I don't like salmon. Or even most fish, in general. It was really amazing. Getting to catch up with and see Nicky, and getting to enjoy the Supper Club really made this trip worthwhile.

I got a little ahead of myself -- Friday was also slow. I enjoyed window shopping on Haight Street. There's a vintage and/or Halloween store every other block! Unfortunately, Amoeba Music, which is listed on the Warp11 site as carrying their albums, did not have anything, so I went away very disappointed at not having been able to purchase their newest release. Fortunately, I remembered to ask Nicky to bring me the 3rd album (which I also didn't have), which she'd gotten signed for me when it came out two years ago. Haha. Later that night was just fun and hijinks in the room. Lots of giggling on my part. ^^;

Sunday was basically getting ready to go back home. I had to return the car by noon even though my flight wasn't until 3:40. However! I'm a smart girl and got on standby for the 1:25 flight and got a spot! Sitting in a middle seat and being slightly uncomfortable was definitely worth getting home at 10pm instead of midnight. =D

All in all, a very enjoyable trip. Some pics are here. I think some of the more incriminating ones have been left out. ^_~

BTW, Capital G is an excellent song!

And Happy Halloween, people!
osaraba: (divine punishment)
Lots happened this weekend. Judy's awesome birthday/Halloween party was awesome. ^_~ Lots of pics were taken, many by me; though of the ones taken of me, not many are all that flattering. Ah well. Still, all in good fun.

Went home very very late. Got up early. And missed an infrequent bus, thus rendering pointless the act of getting up early. Such was the torture of my weekend.

However. I really had a great time meeting Sean's family and attending his nephew's baptism. Dylan's really the most adorable, photogenic baby~! SO. CUTE.

Just FYI, I was not struck by lightning while at church. Which, of course, proves to me that there is, without doubt, no god. ^_~

When I got back to Queens on Sunday night, I went to meet Maryann at a pizzeria near home and while we were sitting there, Nicky called! I was soooo happy to hear from her, and especially to hear that she was able to get Saturday off to come see us in SF! She said that she has some reservations at a hot place Saturday night, so if she's able to add me onto their reservation, I'll hang out with her and her boyfriend that night. It's not like I was planning on going to the bishounen auction or the masquerade or anything. Personally, I find those events to be quite boring. I do know they're pretty popular, so no offense meant to anyone on my flist who enjoys them; they're just not my thing.

Thursday 10/25/07:
AA 59 JFK 7:00am → SFO 10:10am

Sunday 10/28/07:
AA 20 SFO 3:30pm → JFK 11:55pm

Unfortunately, it's a late flight back to NYC, but for $300 round trip (and keeping my accrued miles), it's worth it. I'll just take a cab home (which shouldn't be too expensive since I live within about 15 miles from JFK) 'cause I'll have work the next morning. Yep, I like to kill myself by going straight back to work right after a con completely across the country. ^^;

And I'll be traveling by my lonesome this year (Angelica is taking Delta), so this will be a novel experience. Hah! I'm sure to have the seat next to me free (I've booked the window seat of a two-seater on both flights), so I'll be able to stretch out!

Angelica, I have yet to book the rental car, but the total should be approximately $90. Let me know if that's okay and I'll go ahead and book it within the next few days.
osaraba: (BT atsu tongue)
I went to sleep at 5:30am this morning, and woke up at 7:40am.

But ohhh, how I love GW fic~.

And I shall be eternally grateful for the awesome recommendations from the lovely ladies at Ycon on Saturday night (report to come soon... I promise)! [livejournal.com profile] badmomma64, [livejournal.com profile] merith, [livejournal.com profile] jana1x2x1, [livejournal.com profile] sharona1x2, [livejournal.com profile] klingonpoo, [livejournal.com profile] devilkitty0, [livejournal.com profile] zania. I'm not sure who recommended what anymore, as I just wrote them down in my little moleskine notebook from [livejournal.com profile] arthenice.

Sol 1056's (who is apparently out of the fandom?) fic Howl was OMGawesome! It seems to be unfinished, but it ended at a part that could be considered the end of part one. So it was still satisfying. I'm right now reading her Koji Ma Oshi, which is yummmmmmmmy. It somewhat feels like it could give me a slight feeling of closure to my pining for the never-to-be-written end of Madamhydra's fic Dominion Road (although DR is a lot darker). But KMO is also unfinished. I hope it has somewhat of an end. ^^

Also, love for 2x1 stories. Yaye.

[EDIT: I finished KMO ~ I srsly love the fic and OMG especially the last chapter, but it totally ends on a cliffhanger. And her last post was Dec 2005... *sigh*]
osaraba: (sdk bontenmaru)
OMG I love the car that we rented. It's a 2006 v6 Toyota Camry. I ♥ it. ^^ And it's a pretty cute color too. I was somewhat apprehensive that it would be a horrible puke color. I tend not to like anything that isn't white/black/gray/silver/etc. But it's a really light silvery blue. I shall try not to go on and on about the car. ^^

Yesterday we got the car, drove from the Oakland airport to San Francisco. It was such a pretty drive~! We checked in and drove to Japantown where we RANDOMLY bumped into DC, Ravyn & Nemiko! That was cool. Lots of hugs were exchanged. Then went to shop and met up with them later in front of Kinokuniya, along with Sharon, Leslie, Heero & Duo, and others... Hung out there for a while... went on a cool trip over to downtown SF to buy white face makeup for my Sora cosplay (LOTS of traffic on Market Street OMG). Then went back over to Japantown to have dinner with the big group.

Lots of fun =) and spending money =(.

More later. ^^

What we have:
- 1 room with two double beds at the Clarion (Thurs - Sun)
- 3 people (me, Angelica and someone we picked up on the Ycon forum who's only staying Fri-Sun)
- flights into OAK + rental car for the weekend (which means fun & easy trips into SF!)

What we need:
- additional 1-3 roommates
- fun
- alcohol
- hmmmm...

Anyway, PLEASE drop me a line if you need a room. If you know of anyone who might NEED a room, please let them know I'm looking for a roommate or three!

Thankies!

(1) NIN is playing the Friday night of AnimeNEXT at the PNC Bank Arts Center. Oh, what shall I do? Go? Can I afford it? Err, money/planning/decisions.

(2a) OMG, MUCC is playing Otakon.
(2b) We should probably buy bus tickets sometime soon, right?
(2c) Looks like our cosplay group is narrowed down to me, Maryann, Liz, and Juliet cosplaying the grey-scale versions of Sora, Donald & Goofy from the Timeless River world, with Juliet cosplaying Hayner to match up with Angelica's Roxas (except that I think Angelica isn't cosplaying the casual version of Roxas, so it may not quite match) and possibly Lene as Axel. The four of us will also be cosplaying 4 of the homunculi from FMA: Liz and I will be Lust and Gluttony, Maryann will be either Envy or Sloth, and Juliet will be Greed. ♥

(3) For anyone who is going to Ycon, the $40 pre-reg ends May 31st, so you should send in your registration payment by that date. The next tier is $50 until Sept 20th, and $60 at-door.

Angelica, I'd appreciate it if you could find out from your mom if she can get me those opaque, white contact lenses, and how much a pair would be. Sankyuu~
osaraba: (obsession)
There were some things that I wanted to say, that I was so excited to post about at the end of work. Well, dammit, I should have posted then because I can't remember any of it at all. =(

Well, now that Yoseicon has been scratched off the list, let's see what we have left:

AnimeNEXT June 16-18, at which I'll be working as registration staff.
Otakon August 4-6
Yaoicon October 20-22

Definite attendees in our party: Sara, Angelica, Nicky, roommate from the Ycon ML
Possible attendees: Juliet, Liz, Maryann, Lene

We have two rooms currently booked at the Clarion for Yaoicon. Fortunately, they're only $102/night (including taxes), so $612 for both rooms for 3 nights (Thursday to Sunday). Not bad at all. ^^ Anyone who may need space in one of our rooms, please let us know -- we'll most likely have room for people, even if some or all of the "possibles" don't end up going.

Plane fare is looking to be around $330 for tickets JFK <-> SFO right now... but who knows where it'll be in another few months.

Registration is $40 before May 31st, $50 til September 20th, $60 at-door.

Also, anyone who might be interested in renting a car for the duration, let me know 'cause I won't have that nasty under-25 fee anymore, so I can probably rent a car pretty cheaply, but there's also gas to consider, so I'd need someone to chip in...
osaraba: (divine punishment)
Yaoicon 2006 dates are Oct 20-22. Which means it won't be on Halloween weekend. Which means that we won't be able to go to the Warp 11 show that year unless we stayed for a whole week. As much as I'd love to do that, I won't have enough vacation time for that.

[livejournal.com profile] metallicapixie and [livejournal.com profile] inbredchocobo, you're going to have to decide whether you want to go to Ycon more, or go for the Warp 11 show, or neither or both, or if it doesn't matter either way.

The one year that Liz can actually go to Ycon, and go (at least with a fake ID) to the Warp11 show, Ycon has to go and announce dates that are NOT for Halloween weekend.

This sucks.

No Sunday pics. I really didn't take many pics this con, I dunno why. =/

osaraba: (utena roses|ushitora_icons)
Woke up around 9am. We took our sweet time getting ready and packing, and eventually went to the dealer's room at the Westin for last minute shopping. Why could I not resist? I bought two American original-chara doujinshi for $20, plus an FMA shitajiki. I guess overall spending $45 in the dealer's room really isn't that bad.

I did see a whole bunch of Ozaki Minami doujinshi (mostly Captain Tsubasa era) that I wanted, but it was slightly too pricey when I really didn't want to spend that much. So I resisted. Unfortunately.

Oh, Zetsuai. How do I love thee. I think I want to watch it all again and read the manga, and be in love with Koji forever.

After the dealer's room, the three of us had lunch at the Westin's (expensive!) restaurant. Then we had just enough time to go back to the room to get our luggage, after which Nicky drove us to the airport!

I really wish the weekend had been longer, and I'd had more time to spend with Suzu and Windsorblue. And it probably would have helped a little if the con had actually been in just one hotel, instead of spread out into two hotels. Harder to bump into everyone you want to bump into.

The bad part of cons is that they have to end.

Some pics soon to follow.
osaraba: (grrrr)
We got back to the hotel in time to drop Angelica off and leave again for the 2 hour drive to Davis, where Warp 11 would be playing at the G Street Pub! I didn't take any pictures this time, and I really should have, but oh well. The guys were all dressed as crewmen from the "Mirror, Mirror" episode of the original series. Not having seen the original series (except for one or two episodes, plus the Tribbles episode), I don't know this one, but Karl was dressed as Alternate Kirk, Jeff was spouting AA diatribe, I'm not sure what Brian was, but he was dressed in a red polyester jumpsuit. Kiki looked divine in a short pink poofy skirt with pink fishnets, a pink top that had a planet on it, and a hard pink "wig". I dunno what she was, but it was reminiscent of Space Channel 5.

After the show, we drove back to the hotel and sorta crashed. Of course, we hadn't had time to eat, except for some light snacking in her car on the way over (dried apricots and a Nutri-Grain bar for me, peanuts for Nicky).

Which brings us to Saturday morning. Woke up (surprisingly) at 8:30! Christine was on her way out to a 9am panel, Nicky and Angelica were getting ready for a panel for the fandom that shall remain nameless in this journal, which started at 10. After they left, I got ready and went down to the dealer's room, where I bought two bleach shitajiki. They had better ones here than at Otakon. I was looking for a cute zipper pull to put on my phone strap since the wristband part has come off and will not stay on. What I found instead was the complete series of Samurai Deeper Kyo on DVD for only $40, which I didn't end up buying, although it was very tempting. They also had the Utena movie for $20, which I was also tempted by.

We went back to the room to change into the Doctors' outfits, who then made an appearance at the GW Meet & Greet Panel. It was lotsa fun to see [livejournal.com profile] suzume_sparrow, [livejournal.com profile] windsorblue, and [livejournal.com profile] ponderosa121 with her guy J in a skirt! After the panel we moved on to the couch near the dealer's room where G, J, Heero and Duo proceeded to take naughty photos for an audience! Most of which were not gotten with my camera, so I'll have to get [livejournal.com profile] klingonpoo to send some of them to me!

After that, the Doctors disappeared, but we all got together to have a late lunch in Duo & Heero's room, which was very nice. Everyone went to wait on line for the AMVs, but I generally hate AMVs, so I was on my way back to the hotel room to pick up my laptop and go hang out in the lobby, when [livejournal.com profile] gokumew2 called me! Yay for coincidences! I went over to her room and hung out with her and her roommates for a while, which was very nice. One of her roommates, Gina, was actually someone I recognized from Yuricon in 2003 (although I didn't realize until I'd asked her if she did east coast cons, and she said no, except for Yuricon)! She didn't come for Onna! this year, but is interested in going to another Yuricon; I told her that there is an Onna! tentatively scheduled in the works for 2007, so maybe she'll attend that one.

I finally got to the lobby with the laptop to do some minor updates, but then decided that I'd go to the Bishounen Auction this year. It was, erm, interesting. At least some of it was more entertaining than I'd expected. There were even two guys whose performances I actually liked! But overall, I still think it's more stupid than anything else. I just can't get into it. I see people cheering and I just think, god, it's so fake and stupid and ewww. Although I realize people are truly having a good time, and it isn't fake for them, it's just a fun performance thing. But for me, I can't get past how stupidly fake it all seems. And the amount of money that is bid on the idiotic performances...!

I left a little early to come back to the room, and fell asleep for a bit. But I woke up and ended up going to the Westin lobby with Angelica where we hung out with Christine and Jana for a couple of hours before finally going back to the Clarion to sleep.
osaraba: (sara avatar)
We woke up at 8am in order to meet the group for breakfast at 9am at our hotel's restaurant. We were in a large group of 15, and then [livejournal.com profile] ravynfyre joined us, so it was 16. Hanging out with them all was really cool, and I had a really nice conversation with [livejournal.com profile] hyanan toward the end of breakfast, which was cool. =D

Afterwards, everyone split up to go to several destinations in SF. Angelica and I went back to the hotel room 'cause we were expecting Nicky at around 11am. While waiting in the hotel room, we watched two more episodes of FMA, so now I've finished 8. I really do like the series very much! Sharon mentioned a fic that she'd read, a sort of crossover, where Duo is in the FMA universe, which I'd love to read, which I'll have to remind her about so she can find/send me the link.

Nicky showed up a little later than we expected -- some time after 12, I believe. We hung out in the lobby for a while (free internet connection for wireless laptops!) and then Nicky showed up. We took her stuff upstairs and then went out to go eat. We came back to get our badges and such (expedited by the wonderful head of registration, Ravynfyre), and then went out to SF to go get my nose pierced!

There's a place on Haight and Masonic that is highly recommended by Nicky and her piercer at Sub Q in Sacramento, called Mom's. We had a hell of a time getting parking, but finally found a 30-minute-limit meter and ran over to get me pierced, and made it back just in time for the 30-minute mark! Vaughn was the guy who pierced my nose and he was really cool in going over aftercare stuff with me (although I know most of what he tole me already). Surprisingly, it didn't hurt all that much! I think it hurt less than my conch piercing, certainly less than my industrial. My left eye did water, but that was mostly it. For the first half hour, I felt the end of the L-shaped stud up in the back of my nostril, and it felt pretty darn odd. After that, the sensation went away (or I just didn't notice it anymore), bute every time I tried to yawn, it would feel a bit sore and the feeling of soreness would interrupt my yawn, so that I couldn't complete it. Only when I get tired enough to be unable to resist completing the yawn, am I able to do it.

Now, every so often, in certain positions, I feel the end of the stud in the back of my nose, and it feels like I've got something up there that I really want to get out. And then I remember that it's the stud. So yeah.

Gotta go get on line for the bishounen auction now, but will return with more Friday reporting (and maybe some pics!) later.
osaraba: (reading porn?!|ushitora_icons)
So, I got 4 hours of sleep, but we got to the airport at 10:30am, and we actually made it onto the 11:30 flight!!! Angelica and I were each sitting in the middle seat of the middle aisle of our respective rows, so we weren't sitting together, but she was sitting right behind me.

I watched anime! Although I didn't get to watch up to episode 47 of Bleach like I wanted to (I'm up to episode 38 right now, I believe), I did start watching Full Metal Alchemist! I saw up to episode 6 on the plane, before my laptop battery got down to 20% and I didn't want to keep it on any longer. But I watched two more episodes today, and I really, really like it! Ed and Al are cool and angsty and awesome, and I like them.

The plane landed around 2:30 and after bumping into Jana upon entering the hotel, luckily, we were able to get into Christine's room, even though she was out and about in Chinatown at the time. We dumped our stuff and went to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] jana1x2x1, [livejournal.com profile] merith, [livejournal.com profile] hyanan, and several others to Japan Town to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] zerotwofan, [livejournal.com profile] dc_logan, Susan & [livejournal.com profile] yaoichick, and others! We spent lots of time in/near the Kinokuniya in the mall there, then went to Iroha for dinner (which was omg yummy yummy food).

I do so love Ycon; it's the only chance to get together with all these people! Oh, we do have so much fun and laughter together!
osaraba: (utena roses|ushitora_icons)
While at Onna! this weekend, I got to talking with [livejournal.com profile] devilkitty0, who said she's in a double room all by herself (although possibly [livejournal.com profile] jana1x2x1 might be rooming with her. So since the hotel's pretty cheap to begin with, Angelica and I are going to room with her even if it ends up being more than we had hoped to spend.

Yay!

I hope I can cancel my room reservation without penalty. Usually, they let you cancel up to 48 hrs before without a problem, but I'm getting paranoid. I think it's 'cause the hotels around the Baltimore Convention Center penalize you for canceling like up to a month before -- maybe it's cause the rooms are so in demand 'cause of the con. As soon as [livejournal.com profile] gokumew2 lets me know if her friend still has her room, I'll know whether I can just cancel it or if I should transfer the room into her name.

I'm at work right now, but I'm so just not wanting to be here. I think I'm somewhat resentful of having to be here on Sundays now, when I thought I wouldn't have to be. =(

I wonder how/what Maryann's doing this weekend...
osaraba: (sara avatar)
In fact, just now. I couldn't get them for any less than $260 without not being able to pick my flight times. But I'm trying to work for half a day on Thursday, so it was important to be able to pick the latest flight time available that wouldn't get me to San Francisco too late.

AA 177 JFK 10/27 6pm → SFO 10/27 9:18pm
AA 178 SFO 10/30 1:45pm → JFK 10/30 9:58pm

I haven't been online much these past two weeks and I really feel completely out of the loop. =( *sniffle* I miss everyone!!!

I just had a thought -- if anyone's interested in splitting the cost of renting a car (which would be about $150), let me know. I'd be happy to have the car to drive into San Francisco for food and such. Angelica and I can't really afford to split it just by ourselves, so if anyone else is interested, it'd be pretty cheap to split amongst a few of us. Sharon, DC, I figured since you guys were fine without one last year, you wouldn't be interested. But Angelica said I should ask anyway. =D
osaraba: (duo-eyes)
Yay! So happy to finally confirm that I'll be able to go to Ycon again this year! We have a room reserved, now we just need a couple of roommates. It's just me and Angelica this year, so there's space for two to four people! Our reservation is at the Clarion for three nights (Thursday through Sunday, 10/27/05 - 10/30/05). Including Angelica and me, it would be only $75 for four people, $60 for five, $50 for six.

If you need a room, I ♥ you; or if know someone who might, please forward this info to them! Thanks!

[livejournal.com profile] suzume_sparrow, [livejournal.com profile] windsorblue, [livejournal.com profile] zerotwofan, [livejournal.com profile] ponderosa121, [livejournal.com profile] jana1x2x1, [livejournal.com profile] yaoichick, [livejournal.com profile] klingonpoo -- are you guys all staying at the Westin? *sniffle* But you guys will call me to let me know when/where to hang out with you, right?!
