Most of you already know where we live. Just to refresh, we're a 7-minute walk from the V/R at Grand Ave in Elmhurst, Queens.
If you know of anyone who might be interested in this, please let them know about the room and/or put them in contact with me or Judy!
Thanks everyone!
POTVIN SUCKS!
Oct. 9th, 2009 03:44 pmStarted October 2nd. And I am having a grand old time with it!
Went to the pre-season opener against the Boston Bruins back on September 15th. For free! One of the people I know on twitter had gotten a pair of tickets from another person on twitter who has season tickets (400-level seats) but lives in Pennsylvania so he doesn't make it to too many of the games, I guess. It was a lot of fun as we met up with a few other friends from twitter, sat together, and then moved down to 200-level seats for a closer view. It was pretty sweet!
A week or two later, the season-ticket holder said he had an extra ticket for the October 14th game against the LA Kings! So YEAH BABY, another free game! Who cares if it's LA and not an Eastern Conference team? It's exciting to watch games live anyway.
Then, randomly, on Tuesday night, Judy's coworker Ryan tweeted about a friend wanting to sell his tickets to this Sunday's game against the Ducks (they're no longer the Mighty Ducks, just so you know) for $60/each (300-level seats, my favorite)! I happened to catch the tweet about a minute after he posted, which is odd, because usually once I get home I don't check twitter unless I'm watching a game. I got in touch with the guy (who ALSO has season tickets, most of which he's trying to sell off) because $120 for a pair of tickets to 300-level seating really isn't bad at all, so (as AJ can attest) I was SUPER EXCITED all night after that! But guess what? Both Judy AND Liz are out of town this weekend! Which may have worked out for the best because now MARYANN gets to go! To her first live game! And not at an exorbitant price! YAY!
So the guy emailed me this morning to remind me that I should get back to him ASAP if I want tickets and I called Liz to discuss what to do (since Juliet would also like to go to a game later this season), and both Liz and I were determined to go to an Islanders v. Rangers game this season. The Juliet part of it is still up in the air, but Liz and I decided to just go ahead and buy tickets to a NYI v. NYR game --
Wednesday, December 16th! And it's center ice (section 309), which is really important if one is paying $95 each ticket!
Unfortunately, I don't have enough money to keep this hobby going (hmm, much like anime conventions). I'm so lucky for my #nhltweetup tweeps on twitter. OH YEAH -- that #nhltweetup I went to for the season opener (October 2nd)? Found an awesome sports bar on Avenue A -- a HOCKEY sports bar! With an awesome bartender named Tim, who's a lot of fun to chat with! I WILL BE GOING BACK THERE!
I really have much more to talk about, but I think that's good for one post.
Oh, last thing -- Del Zotto and Gilroy. YES, PLEASE and THANK YOU. Let's hope one or both of them will be lifers!

I keep coming home and turning on the TV and flipping from movie to movie for several hours before going to bed. This doesn't usually last too long with me, but I think it's been a couple of weeks already... actually maybe it's only been about a week, but it feels like a long time. I've watched more stupid romantic comedies in the last week than I've seen in the last few months. But while I'm talking about that, let me just say that Music and Lyrics was actually decent. Not the best one I've seen, but I think the first I've seen where Drew Barrymore plays a character I don't want to strangle. She was quirky and weird, but not idiotic like all her other roles. And you know what else? This just proves my theory that any romantic comedy with Hugh Grant in it -- despite NOT LIKING him much at all -- is pretty darn good. I don't know how or why this is true, but it is.
I also saw Because I Said So which made me want to murder Diane Keaton. It was pretty stupid, but overall it wasn't the worst I've seen either. There were a few really adorably funny parts, which were what made the movie worth watching. (Wow, what an alliteration.)
Before we got home, Maryann and I ate at the mall, and she was telling me about this article she read in Cosmopolitan magazine about how to... I dunno, something about communication with guys, who apparently prefer to talk about objects rather than people/feelings. Those articles are all bullshit and overly simplistic anyway, but they're sometimes pretty amusing to read. In this case, it was pretty funny because -- even without knowing the path the answer should or shouldn't take -- I was able to foil the point of the quiz! Yaye for me! So one of the questions was: "There are two fish in a fish bowl. What are their names?"
I paused for a second or two. And Maryann said, "just answer with whatever first comes to mind!" So my answer was "Black and White." I could totally see the huge sweatdrop that formed at her head. So I asked, what was the answer supposed to be? The point of this question is to determine whether the guy has his friends/hanging out on his mind, or your relationship. ::coughBULLSHITcough:: Two guys' names = friends, guy/girl names = relationship. I don't know what would happen should he pick two girls' names, or as in my case, more abstract "pet" names. ^^;
As for reading, I finished re-reading that first book in David Weber's Honor Harrington series, and have now moved on to the next one, Honor of the Queen. I'm not sure how long this sci-fi stint will last, but maybe I should look into what sci-fi books I may be interested in before the urge disappears. Even though I'm also still in the middle of Watchmen.
Oh! Speaking of Watchmen -- I really like those chapter interludes the best. You know, where you get to read various "non-fiction" articles written about and/or by the characters. I think sometimes I trudge through the "story" part to get to those. ^_~;

It has been confirmed.
Feb. 22nd, 2006 01:15 amThree out of four (so far) of our "possibles" have said that they're going: Nikki, Indira, and Jerry. This makes 11 of us.
yoshiinjapan, you're going to have to make sure that Joshypoo comes, if only so our hotel costs will go down. The Radisson room is $505, the Wyndham room is $477, for a total of $982. Split between 11 of us, the total is $90. Split between 12 of us, the total is $82. So I'd really like to get at least a 12th person to cut down on costs. Don't forget we still have the transportation costs to think about. ::sigh::
OT, I got the complete Kare Kano DVD set in the mail today. I definitely won't get rid of the fansubs because the ones I have after episode 8 are excellent translations and pretty good quality for VHS copies. But it'll be nice to be able to watch them in high-quality format that won't wear out the "tape" when I watch them over and over.
This was a really odd day: I saw Lene & Nikki for lunch, which was nice. Talked to Angelica a lot today; rare. Then, not two minutes after I hang up with Angelica (at 1am, of course), Nicky calls me! If I haven't called her, she always seems to call me when I've been thinking about her for the previous couple of days.
And now my right shoulder hurts because I have had to type this all out from a contorted position, and with only one hand, because the other arm is currently being used as a body pillow by the cat. I am reminded of my folly in thinking she was just being silly when
ponderosa121 reported that her cat (kitten?) had gone to sleep in the chair at her desk and therefore had to go get another, less comfortable chair (or something similar), because no, she couldn't move her.

Fill out an application for Hollywood Video or Staples (if you want to try it out, you can use store #0434).
After recently reading Eats, Shoots & Leaves, some of the questions made us laugh hysterically for minutes on end, ( until our stomachs and backs and sides were hurting from the never-ending laughter. )
This is even better than mad libs. Really.

Safe & Sound
Nov. 24th, 2005 10:45 pmMaryann's safe in Albuquerque. She texted to say that her mom tackled her at the airport while she was looking at some kid's cowboy hat or something. ^_~;
I had a 2-hour nap around 1pm 'cause I was up until 5am helping Maryann out with stuff, and then up at 9:30 to get ready for breakfast with everyone, and then driving Maryann to the airport.
After which, we all kinda lazed around and did nothing today, although we ate every meal together, and it was all quite nice.
Rangers vs. ATL Thrashers was on tonight, and we won 6-3! It was an odd game -- not intense, but good nonetheless. Jagr seemed to have some odd injury or sprain of some sort, but played anyway. Weekes (goalie) was hurt in the 3rd period and was replaced by Lunqvist.
Unfortunately, I have to be at work tomorrow, but I'm hoping/planning on leaving early. As long as it isn't too busy. So everyone, stay the f*** away from my store.
I keep thinking today is Saturday, but even if I do stay at work all day tomorrow, I'll still be off again on Saturday AND Sunday! This makes me so very happy.

Wow, today was spectacularly boring. Aside from hanging out with Liz a little after picking her up from Katie's house around 6:30pm, I feel like I did a whole bunch of nothing. And not that good nothing, either. I got to read a little of my current read, Lie By Moonlight by Amanda Quick. It's pretty good, entertaining as all of her other stories are. Amanda Quick is one of the few authors of historical romances that I still read. Oddly enough, it is the pseudonym for Jayne Ann Krentz, who writes contemporary romances under her own name and which, mostly, I won't touch with a 10-foot pole. One exception was her recent title, Falling Awake, which was good but nothing to get excited about.
In any case, I didn't do much today.
Friday Angelica and Liz went fabric shopping all by themselves and actually bought fabric this time! Including fabric for the mushrooms' robes, hats, heartless-skin, and skirt-hoop wire to make the robes bell out. I just have to get around to, like, making these costumes. If I actually pull it off, it'll be a miracle. If not, I guess you can expect to see us in our Schwarz outfits, maybe? LOL. Who knows. Still left to be bought: yellow fishnet for the heartless' eyes, felt for the heartless logos on the mushrooms' robes, foam to make the hats.
Will met up with them after work, and Angelica went straight to her grandmother's house. Will and Liz met up with me at the store where Maryann was working by herself. After a little visit, Will, Liz and I went back to my house -- OMG, it was so nice to just sit and relax at home and not do anything and not be outside, I need a break from 6-day work-weeks -- where Will and I watched Buck-Tick's at the night side concert video (one of their best!) and Liz got ready to go to her friend's sleepover party.
Maryann came over after closing the store. After a little while of watching sexy Atsushi beautiful B-Tness, I dragged her over to shinigami so that she could send resumes and stuff to ads from craigslist (that girl needs a job and we both knew that if she went straight home after work, she'd never send any resumes out). While she was doing that Will and I watched the documentary part of Picture Product. B-T is so awesome.
bondagepenguin, if you feel like downloading a bit of B-T, I happen to have a few random mp3s up on my site. I highly recommend Aikawarazu, and Dress is awesome. I'd say don't bother with 21st Cherry Boy, it's not anywhere near one of my favorites, but you're welcome to it if you'd like. If you're interested, I'm sure either Maryann or I could make you a CD of some of their stuff.
Drove them home around 3am (I really have to get my own car soon); got back home around 4, and fell asleep with my book beside me. ^^

Who is this guy anyway?
Aug. 4th, 2005 03:23 pmUnfortunately, the guy who already works for Our Name Is Mud took the job. =( So no new cool job for Maryann. Although she said the woman who interviewed her said she'd contact her if any positions open up. So, that's good, at least.
::sigh:: Back to craigslist for Maryann.
::sigh:: Back to craigslist for Maryann.
Good-ish non-news.
Aug. 3rd, 2005 05:11 pmI hope I'm not stealing Maryann's thunder if she actually does make a post. She went for her interview today, and it seems like they're really interested in hiring her! The only thing holding them back from making a formal offer, it seems, is the possibility of someone who already works there getting? applying for? the full-time Assistant Manager position.
She asked if Raquel had called and they said she had called Alan, and that Alan really liked Raquel, so that if Raquel recommended her, it's a plus. I'm so happy that Raquel called. Also, I feel slightly omnipotent and very much like a puppet-master, muhahahaha... but we won't go into that.
We're hoping that the other guy doesn't get the job, so that they'll ask Maryann to do it. It would be very cool. =D

( Friday was nice -- )
( Saturday -- )
While still on the service road of the Long Island Expressway, I was driving along in the right lane (of a two-lane street, plus a lane for parked cars). As I neared the traffic light/intersection, I saw that the car ahead of me was going slowly. So I (using the left-turn signal!) switched to the left lane in order to pass him. But as we got to the middle of the intersection, he'd started to turn left! From the right lane! What a fucking idiot!!! I leaned on the horn the second I realized, and as I can't remember if I braked or not (even if I had, it wouldn't have made a difference if the other guy hadn't noticed/stopped turning left when he did), I'm really glad that he *heard* the horn and was going slowly enough to be able to brake right away. We didn't touch, but I saw in one of the mirrors that he'd only been 2-3 inches away. What a fucking asshole. I was really pissed off! Then Maryann said she thought he might have scraped us. Although I hadn't felt that, I pulled over and checked the car, but no -- we'd definitely not touched at all. *so relieved*
So,
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
( So then we continued on to the Bronx... )
Sunday -- boring and unexciting in comparison with Friday and Saturday. Went to work at the GCS store. Watched six more episodes of Wild Striker (20-25), met Angelica and Liz at the mall for dinner, then went home and watched another two episodes (26-27).
*breathes*
Friday. Well, it was a thing with the whole HP book release. ( But let me start from the beginning. )
Saturday. Spent the day with parents. Lunch, dinner, etc. Valentine (the construction guy who's going to rebuild the garage into a liveable room, and repave the front walkway) took us to one of the houses a couple of blocks down from us to show us their unfinished basement room (that he's working on currently). It was really awesome looking, I'm so jealous of the room that Maryann's going to have! ^^ (But in a good way.)
Sunday. Went to work, unfortunately. Boring day, but I picked up Lady Sophia's Lover by Lisa Kleypas (sequel to a book I'd recently read by her, Someone to Watch Over Me). Both were really good. Neither pair of hero & heroine were stupid! Yay! I was very surprised when I read StWOM 'cause Lisa Kleypas's older stuff is a little too... *vein twitch* for me. But these are really cute, satisfying, not stupid, and the sex (at least in LSL 'cause I don't remember StWOM too well) is pretty steamy for romance novels nowadays. They seemed to have hit a plateau. I definitely liked LSL better, but StWOM was very good and although it isn't necessary to have read StWOM first, LSL is better if you have.
Later, Maryann's parents drove her over to my house with her 13-year old cat, Baby. ^^ We wanted to do a little visit so that Baby wouldn't freak out too much when Maryann moved in and never went back home. OMG, at first she hid between the foot of my bed and the dresser, then under the typewriter table at the side of my desk, then later on top of the books on the bottom shelf of my bookcase. There were barely 3 inches of space there, so she was all spread out, but curled around on top of the books; she looked like a dragon in a cave. So adorable, I had to take a picture (which will be posted later today). After a while, and coaxing by Maryann, she came out and walked around a bit, eventually venturing into the hallway and bathroom area of my basement. She stayed in the bathroom for quite a while; we can't figure out if it was because it was cooler and darker in there, or if she had to go to the bathroom, or some combination of the two... even though she didn't end up "going" to the bathroom.
I drove her home around 1:30am. Eh, no sleep. =(
For anyone who's interested, I shall upload some Warp 11 songs to my site later tonight. Red Alert is their 2nd album, the music is rock. I'd suggest trying songs from here first as they're not as hard/punk as the songs from their first album, Suck My Spock. Go to their website to read hysterical, witty, and blatantly suggestive lyrics, by album.

It's (almost?) official.
Jul. 13th, 2005 05:33 pmOn Sunday after work, Maryann came home with me to speak to my parents about possibly moving in with us (in the basement, with me) when her parents make the move to Albequerque in mid-August.
My parents had already decided to tear down the garage door and rebuild it into a wall with a window and a separate entrance into the basement. Now, we're just going to also make the garage into a liveable room as well. She might have to temporarily stay with me in my part of the basement, but that shouldn't be too much of a problem. It also depends on exactly when they'll start the construction, and how long it's going to take. If it gets too crowded down there, it's not like I can't just sleep upstairs in the living room, or the computer room, or even in Liz's room.
And after Maryann's "interview," my parents have pretty much agreed. And although Maryann's parents are still resisting the fact that Maryann wants to, and I guess ultimately is, staying in New York... they're kind of alright with the fact that she'll be staying with me and my parents. 'Cause they know how mature and responsible I am and such. ::gag::
But this is really weird. Not bad. Just weird.
It is going to be really nice to have the separate entrance to the basement, though. ^^
She'll be paying a small amount of rent and, depending on how well any job I might get pays, I hope to pay an amount comparable with market rate. It'll realistically be less than that, but something decent, at least. My parents will really need the money, especially after borrowing for the construction work.
In addition, also dependent on how will this potential job pays, I might be interested in buying a used car. And I'm talking like, $1000 or less. Because my theory is I probably wouldn't be able to afford anything newer than 5 years old, and anything over that is going to be starting to fall apart anyway. So I might as well get something cheap, so that when it starts breaking down I wouldn't have made a big investment to begin with. Of course, not having ever bought a car before (and not really knowing too much about the inner workings of one, unfortunately, like a typical girl), I wonder if I could ask Victor or one of his friends to help me out with that. I know that they're into cars enough to know stuff about them. ^^ It's nice to have cool guy friends. =D
Okay, I have to go now, but more about my tentative plots and plans another time.
Saturday night was pretty cool -- went to Staten Island with Maryann because Victor was having a barbecue/party out on his deck. His pool was open, although I didn't know beforehand so I didn't bring a swimsuit (or shorts & a tank, or whatever), which was too bad. =( Next time I just might bring something, dunno what, but I'll figure something out. But even besides that, it was a lot of fun. Pat (Eric's friend who was at Hidden Shadows two weeks ago) was there again, with his girlfriend -- and wow, that guy can mix pretty darn good drinks! ^^ I had some yummy concoction of flavored rum, cranberry and orange juices, and lemon juice. And Victor can mix a good gin martini. ^^
We got there around 10:30pm, and Maryann went into the pool pretty quickly. ^^ Charlotte Ann was there, who's just so sweet; she's really nice and fun to talk to ~ I always like it when she's hanging out with Victor & Co. Justin was not to be found, which was disappointing. Joe was around, but he was in a really odd mood, and always disappearing with Vince(?); we found out later that Joe's now living at Victor's house 'cause he got kicked out for some reason or other... ::wince:: Joe's not the most stable-minded of people.
Chris and Carrie were there, of course. Carrie's so funny, she got drunk after one of Pat's drinks and she was acting really adorably silly. Eric was there -- he's really cool, too. He's a little flamboyant. I don't mean in an effeminate way (he's not gay nor effeminate), but he likes to be somewhat theatrical. But he's definitely not dramatic (and stupid) like Victor gets sometimes. He's really into Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass, which is why he knew Jabberwocky by heart. And we had a short conversation about it and all the different movie versions and stuff; he's actually really cool ~ and it's really easy for me to feel comfortable around him, so I like hanging out with him. ^^
Anyway, we hung out and talked, most people took a dip... It thinned out a little after midnight. Then Chris and Carrie crashed in the living room until later. I eventually had a yummy grilled hotdog around 1:30 or so. And we finally left around 3:15. It was nice, though. I enjoy Victor's BBQ parties.
Of course, the next day I still had to get up to go to work.
Spent the day at the store (from 11am), but left a little early to go downtown to meet Maryann and some of her friends from the Bronx (Elise, Nancy), along with Lee & Zoila, at Washington Square Park. Victor joined us. It was funny finally meeting Nancy, I kind of feel like I know her 'cause Maryann has told me some about her; she's also really nice and cool to talk to. She's soooo~ petite! I think, shorter than Katie (4'11") and thin.
After sitting around for close to an hour, we ended up walking west, toward the pier. Walking through the West Village after the parade was pretty. So much rainbow stuff all over~ was pretty. I wish I'd known I was going to go, though -- I could've worn a tanktop or something a little cooler than a buttondown shirt & a (pretty) tie. ^^; Speaking of ties, I wish someone would make a rainbow tie. I'd prefer that over a T-shirt or flag or similar (I got a rainbow cloth backpack-type thing). I would have enjoyed it more if we'd actually had a destination or purpose, but we walked so much for nothing... and I had asked Maryann earlier if we could stop to get something small to eat, but then we didn't, so I didn't eat anything from 1pm to 11:30pm. =(
In conclusion, a long and busy and not-restful weekend. ::sigh:: I have a feeling this is going to be a long week.
