Dear Santa,

I think my requests were pretty broad, but I just thought I'd clarify that I'm absolutely fine with (and also enjoy reading) all kinks; nothing squicks me except mpreg. Also, I'm not very good at being specific, so if you'd like for me to clarify anything further in my requests, please feel free to ask a question anonymously here (I have IP tracking turned on in general, but really I swear I'm not going to try to figure out who you are or anything; I'd much rather be surprised anyway).

Most importantly, THANK YOU BB! <3

Cheers!

READING. OMG have I been reading. Mostly devouring fic like you wouldn't believe. And I've been meaning to make another rec post but I think I've been too busy to stop and gather my thoughts. I'm less busy this weekend I think, so I'll try to do that then.

what? historical romances? like, het romances? yes, i still read them... occasionally. )

In other news -- \LUCE/ YOU ARE POSSIBLY THE SWEETEST PERSON ALIVE!!! <3333 [livejournal.com profile] lucifuge_5 randomly sent me a book -- because of how much I have talked, recently, about reading M/M stories -- which I am very excited to read! It is First You Fall(A Kevin Connor Mystery) by Scott Sherman and I will (of course) let you all know what I think about it when I've read it! I always enjoy passing books along to others that I think will be interested in them, so I'm delighted when others do the same for me! =D

So. I have written a few ~500-word ficlets lately, which I have really really enjoyed. They're kind of like dipping my toes in water I already know is relatively warm. Which is to say, I know I can write 500-word ficlets and so I'm pleased to have written them lately because I haven't really been writing otherwise.

...And yet I signed up for that 20k [livejournal.com profile] ds_c6d_bigbang thing. Ahahahah. I've been thinking (while trying not to scare myself off) about what to write and what I keep coming back to, what I think I'll be the most comfortable trying my hand at, is a kind of AU where Fraser and Kowalski are in their late teens and probably takes place in Chicago. *groans* I really haven't gotten far enough with this... I need to try to be free for the next skype chat (is that this Sunday?)...
osaraba: (dS fk head*wheel)
I just signed up for [livejournal.com profile] ds_c6d_bigbang. I'm feeling a bit faint over the 20k-word minimum.

[livejournal.com profile] akamine_chan says they are low-pressure on dropping out. AND I QUOTE, "No blame, no recriminations, no punishment." THIS MAY BE THE ONLY THING THAT KEEPS ME GOING? Wait, that makes no sense. But it is the only thing that is making me feel comfortable enough to try.

THIS? IS WHY I LOVE C6D FANDOM.

(Also, I must admit that I was FOR SRS ridiculously swayed by [livejournal.com profile] endcredits' sexy banner, WTH!)

Aahahah, now if you could just come up with some interesting ideas, self.
osaraba: (inception arthur pointman)
[livejournal.com profile] gyzym's domestic!verse epic, Wherever You Will Be (That's Where I'll Call Home), for Arthur & Eames.

It is actualfax the best thing EVAR. I-- I can't get enough of it. I cry internally at the thought that there might not be more; that one day she'll slip out of the hooks in which Inception fandom currently has her ensnared. HER WRITING IS FUCKING AMAZING, GUYS. FUCKING AMAZING!

When I stumbled into C6D fandom, I came across a fandom discussion over established relationship vs. first-time fic. Overwhelmingly, it seems, preference lies with first-time fic. And I can totally understand that tendency. I feel like first-time fic is easier to do well; there are certain road markers that are kind of failsafes. But established relationship -- when it's done well, it shines. It gives me the worst sort of heart-clenchingly hopeful feeling (the kind that I hate admitting to). And while we're on that subject, here are two other series that do the same, in my two other favorite fandoms:

GUYS, DO YOU REMEMBER (the former) LYS AP ADIN'S Mission Suburbia (1x2, Gundam Wing) domestic!verse series? THIS IS KIND OF LIKE THAT, OH GOD. [ETA: OMFG THIS IS 10 YEARS OLD. JFC, I've been in and out of fandoms for a loooooong time.]

And last, but in no way, shape, or form least; my favorite domestic 'verse series in the only other fandom in which I write: C6D, of course. I suppose the first fic in the 'verse is a first-time fic since Mike (Sweeney of Durham County) and Ray (Kowalski of due South) get together in the beginning but most of it takes place after that and is very domestic. [livejournal.com profile] sionnain and [livejournal.com profile] waltzforanight's What Else Would You Have Me Be? 'verse. (Warning: heavy on the BDSM!)

The awesome thing about established relationship fic is that there are still so many firsts to be had.

from [livejournal.com profile] akamine_chan: Top five tattoos you'd love to get! (Which happens to be one of my TOP FIVE favorite subjects OMG!) )

OH MY GOD, I intended to put the answers for RayK's tattoos in here too, but this turned out to be a little longer than I thought and ALSO I STARTED WRITING THE ANSWERS FOR RAYK AND REALIZED HOW MUCH I LOVE HIM! I only have two written out, but OMG, he's sooooo sweeeeeeet and thoughtful even when he doesn't really think of himself that way! \RayK/

Okay, so that will be next!

\Aka/ You ask great questions!

ETA: OMG, I changed tenses so many times in #3, PLEASE FORGIVE ME GODS OF GRAMMAR! I GOT A BIT OVER-EXCITED!

Haven't had a moment to be involved much on LJ this past week, but will get back to it soon! I had a lovely, lovely time at [livejournal.com profile] akamine_chan's HCL-viewing chat! OH DUMB, ANGSTY BOYS. HOW DELICIOUS YOU ARE. <3 And it was certainly even better to chat with the bunch of you while watching -- there were things some of you brought up that I hadn't even thought of! I can't wait to do it again!

In other news, via [livejournal.com profile] idreamedmusic and [livejournal.com profile] surya74, and probably others... CKR's new show, Shattered has been confirmed for a fall lineup spot -- Fridays at 9pm on Canada's Global TV! CANNOT WAIT! GIMME SCHIZO CKR NOW PLS!

For those who may be interested: Interview and SEXY PROMO PIC SPAM

I cannot help but think of the chorus of the Rolling Stones song "Shattered" every time this show comes up.

And lastly, I CANNOT FREAKING WAIT TO READ/WRITE FIC ABOUT THIS SHOW. Seriously, I'm now dreaming of some sort of well-written casefic. ...and OMG, dS/Shattered crossover fic (gen or not)? I'm practically drooling....

Hawks v. Flyers GAME 3 TONIGHT! By 10pm I will probably have died of a tension headache. LET'S GO HAWKS!
osaraba: (dS fv srsly?)
So sad to have missed week 1 as Pilot and Free Willy are two of my favorite episodes! But I was SO GLAD to have experienced week 2! Fun times beyond belief! IT IS SO VERY UNFORTUNATE, THEN, that I will be in Chicago next weekend and unable to participate in week 3. /o\

Notes to self:
  • Find someone to make an icon of Boxer!Fraser from Diefenbaker's Day Off. Hmmm, OH LET ME THINK WHO DO I KNOW THAT MAKES AWESOME ICONS?
  • Think very hard about [Fraser + energy drink + stuck in a snow-bound cabin = nonstop Inuit stories with no off-button and possibly ear-bleeding!Ray(s)?] plot bunny. Also, hope that Aka and/or Helens posts something having to do with said plot bunny.
  • Dancing/moshing-punk!RayK emoticon is silly and very, very scary. Especially when you were not expecting such a thing.
osaraba: (laby sarah fuck)
Kris (cute Scottish bartender) and Derek (bartender who cheats on bets) are awesome guys to hang with while watching playoffs games! Also, I drank so many more drinks than I actually paid for. Which is always awesome. Though I suppose now I'm karmically paying for them because I feel like crap today.

Did not work on any fandom things this weekend, unfortunately. I'm still thinking about that RayK/Fraser/Lew thing and will definitely work on it this week!

Relatedly, in a moment of scared shitless; why the hell am I doing this, I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] meresy's C6D Porn Tag. Yay? The minimum is 300 words, so I figure I should be able to write something that short even if I go crazy with insecurity over it. Have not written slash pr0n in YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS, WHAT.
osaraba: (cali lewd)
So. Rangers lost that game on Sunday and out of the playoffs. Not surprised, but still disappointed. It was a freaking intense game that went to shootout. I'm extremely sad about the Rangers' season being at an end; it's the first time we haven't been in the playoffs since the lockout, though really that doesn't say a whole lot because we've been pretty steadily mediocre.

Shockingly, SHELLEY put in the one goal that we had. And the fourth line was again the best line, as they had been for the last 5 or so games. So, we'll see what happens with the roster in the off-season. I'd like for us to hold onto Christensen, Prust, Prospal, and Auld; and drop Olli and Redden. Stop laughing about dropping Redden, I said I'd like for it to happen, not that I expect it to.

In any case, I reconnected with Rich randomly when he commented on my facebook status and as a result of some coincidences I AM GOING TO THE DEVILS V. FLYERS PLAYOFFS LAUNCH GAME TOMORROW NIGHT! Of course, it's not the Rangers so I'll be disappointed in the outcome no matter what, but whatever. Live. Playoff. Hockey. It's all good. Besides, I'm rooting for the Blackhawks this year, so whatever.

In other news, I ACTUALLY WROTE SOMETHING! Well, co-wrote. And it was accidental comment-drabble fic, BUT WHATEVER. I've been trying to get myself to write for C6D fandom for a while now -- I haven't written for fandom in YEARS AND YEARS -- and I made a one or two really pathetic, hesitant starts that were quickly dropped out of disinterest. But something [livejournal.com profile] idreamedmusic said in a comment yesterday had my Fraser up and talking and unable to shut up. Well, you know, like Fraser is prone to do. SO, YAY FUN TIMES. \o/

Will there be more Fraser/Ray/Lew fun? Hopefully! <3 I should also rewatch Californication season 2. Because one can never have too much Lew.

Watched HCL with Liz on Sunday night. She liked it a lot. Which made me very, very happy. After the movie, we watched some fanvids and interviews and things like that, I told her some of the stuff I know about CKR and HD from listening to the DVD commentary and reading HCRS, and eventually that sort of trailed off... at which point, she said something that made the stupid lightbulb go off above my head.

Why I've been unable to stop watching this movie over and over.

I mean, I'm not the type to watch something over after just having seen it. And I usually wait a while before watching something over again. Especially with movies: I'm not the biggest fan of the visual medium (as opposed to books, that is). But with this movie... I just can't get enough of it.

She said, "I want to watch something else like it."

And yeah, we agreed, there's just nothing else that has the same feeling. Sure, there are movies that will have the feel of this part, or the same maneuvering, or subtext, or emotion, as that part -- but nothing I've seen comes together the way this movie does.

And the ending.

The ending is what I look for in every movie I watch, or book I read, or story I hear. Something unsurprising -- as in, it's completely in character, so it makes complete and utter sense that it would happen -- but also completely unexpected. Didn't know it would happen at that moment, and whoa, the ending has just rushed up to you, out of nowhere, in your face. It lifted you way up, like a geyser, and left you cartoonishly hanging in the air, mouth agape and wondering in panic if you'll be able to come down without hurting yourself.

But the best thing about this movie is that you never come down. You're just forever at that point of inhalation, holding your breath; never letting it go.

It's just perfect.

SO many intelligently kick-ass metas about HCL. Even more so than missing the due South boat, this causes me to lament. SO MUCH to explore, here. I want to write fucking essays about this movie, with a level of interest that I was never really able to achieve in so many college classes. (And, of course, long after I've fallen out of practice in how to think analytically and speak articulately, much less eloquently.)

THIS THREAD HERE. is just. ON TARGET.

THIS is what makes open-ended and FUCKING PERMEABLE stories just. Unsurpassable.

[EDIT: I kind of wonder if [livejournal.com profile] louiex might be interested in this particular fandom? Ooooh, it could really be right up your alley. *hopes*]
osaraba: (dS fraser thumbs-up)
I wonder if anyone has ever done a (decent) due South/Queer as Folk crossover?

Chicago and Pittsburgh aren't that far away from each other...

Also, C/K: Speranza. YES. THANK YOU. =D
