READING. OMG have I been reading. Mostly devouring fic like you wouldn't believe. And I've been meaning to make another rec post but I think I've been too busy to stop and gather my thoughts. I'm less busy this weekend I think, so I'll try to do that then.

Last week I went to the NYR v. VAN game with Liz and browsed in Borders while waiting for her. BAD. IDEA. I don't read romances much anymore but there are a few authors whose writing I like and can absolutely count on to be entertained (and not disgusted) by. I happened to notice that there were several books by Julia Quinn (who writes historical romances) that I haven't read before and so, sigh, yes I bought them. I can't help but enjoy her stories -- they're cheerful and delightfully funny and in maybe only one out of her 20+ books have the protagonists not become friends before falling in love/getting married/etc. The most guilt-free fluff I've ever read. I cannot help but approve.

Read Mr. Cavendish, I Presume which was entertaining enough and What Happened In London which was really quite amusing and has one of the best secondary characters (best friend of the male protag) I've read in the longest time! Hilarious. Then read Ten Things I Love About You in which the hilarious secondary character from WHIL becomes the male protag. AND STAYS TRUE TO CHARACTER. It's pretty rare that secondary characters who get their own books actually stay IC -- nine times out of ten they're stuffed into the male protag role and all the interesting bits, like rough edges, are smoothed away. So I shall reiterate for those who read historical romances: Julia Quinn is a delightfully amusing and cheerful fluffy read. She hasn't let me down yet!

In other news -- \LUCE/ YOU ARE POSSIBLY THE SWEETEST PERSON ALIVE!!! <3333 [livejournal.com profile] lucifuge_5 randomly sent me a book -- because of how much I have talked, recently, about reading M/M stories -- which I am very excited to read! It is First You Fall(A Kevin Connor Mystery) by Scott Sherman and I will (of course) let you all know what I think about it when I've read it! I always enjoy passing books along to others that I think will be interested in them, so I'm delighted when others do the same for me! =D

So. I have written a few ~500-word ficlets lately, which I have really really enjoyed. They're kind of like dipping my toes in water I already know is relatively warm. Which is to say, I know I can write 500-word ficlets and so I'm pleased to have written them lately because I haven't really been writing otherwise.

...And yet I signed up for that 20k [livejournal.com profile] ds_c6d_bigbang thing. Ahahahah. I've been thinking (while trying not to scare myself off) about what to write and what I keep coming back to, what I think I'll be the most comfortable trying my hand at, is a kind of AU where Fraser and Kowalski are in their late teens and probably takes place in Chicago. *groans* I really haven't gotten far enough with this... I need to try to be free for the next skype chat (is that this Sunday?)...

If you haven't read anything by Eloisa James, you SO SHOULD OMG. She is a Shakespearean professor by day (married to a real life Italian knight) and a historical romance writer by night. I flailingly recommend "A Kiss at Midnight." It's a Cinderella retelling and it is faaaaabulous. There's a Beauty and the Beast one coming out next. But anyway. Yes. Eloisa James ftw!

Um, hi. Been awhile! HOW ARE YOUUUUU.

Yays for the arrival of the mystery package! I think the book is a fluffy book (that, um, grows a bit serious towards the end<--nothing apocalyptic though.) In truth, I'm not much for books with hustlers as the main protags, but this one was a charmer.

I'm not much for reading straight or F/F romances.

If you were to write 40 500-word ficlets, you'd end up with the minimum word-count for your BB entry. IJS.

Also, your plot bunny might need some more alfalfa, but it sounds like a really cool idea!

Oh, and, erm, no. The Big Bang chat is SATURDAY at 5 p.m.

Sunday @ 2 p.m. is when the Slings&Arrows rewatch goes on. We're doing the last two episodes from S1, btw.

Anyhoo, I've been very much like :D because less than 2 weeks (more or less) before HEADSTONES OR BUST! WHEEEEEEEEE!!!

You know, I still don't know what I'm more excited about: Headstones or Fangirls! Many people at my job have commented that I seem to be much more :D! So, I tell them that I'm looking forward to my vacay. It's hard NOT to guffaw, however, when I tell them how excited I am to be going to Canada. Their faces are all O_o .

You would think that, at this point, they'd have figured things out. Hee!

ETA: S1 of S&A is so groovy. Well, all three seasons are for different reasons. Still, S1 makes me all flappy-hands!
