It is actualfax the best thing EVAR. I-- I can't get enough of it. I cry internally at the thought that there might not be more; that one day she'll slip out of the hooks in which Inception fandom currently has her ensnared. HER WRITING IS FUCKING AMAZING, GUYS. FUCKING AMAZING!
When I stumbled into C6D fandom, I came across a fandom discussion over established relationship vs. first-time fic. Overwhelmingly, it seems, preference lies with first-time fic. And I can totally understand that tendency. I feel like first-time fic is easier to do well; there are certain road markers that are kind of failsafes. But established relationship -- when it's done well, it shines. It gives me the worst sort of heart-clenchingly hopeful feeling (the kind that I hate admitting to). And while we're on that subject, here are two other series that do the same, in my two other favorite fandoms:
GUYS, DO YOU REMEMBER (the former) LYS AP ADIN'S Mission Suburbia (1x2, Gundam Wing) domestic!verse series? THIS IS KIND OF LIKE THAT, OH GOD. [ETA: OMFG THIS IS 10 YEARS OLD. JFC, I've been in and out of fandoms for a loooooong time.]
And last, but in no way, shape, or form least; my favorite domestic 'verse series in the only other fandom in which I write: C6D, of course. I suppose the first fic in the 'verse is a first-time fic since Mike (Sweeney of Durham County) and Ray (Kowalski of due South) get together in the beginning but most of it takes place after that and is very domestic.

The awesome thing about established relationship fic is that there are still so many firsts to be had.

Date: 2010-10-25 06:29 pm (UTC)I'm definitely more of a first-time fic reader*, but when established relationship fic is done brilliantly? It makes me totally, totally gooey. Sionn and Waltz's Mike/Ray stuff makes me grin from ear to freakin' ear. I love it so much.
*It's part of that cathartic crescendo thing, I think? I love the whole build up to a first time. This may also be why I tend to get bored of ships that become canon.

Oh but yes, please do read
Oh god, I'm babbling. I'm stopping now. But let me know what you think; I will never pass up the opportunity to gush about it. You've made me happy I decided to go ahead and rec/post it because I thought I was mainly indulging myself in getting all my squee off my chest.
*hugs*

Date: 2010-10-25 07:06 pm (UTC)No, you're right! It's definitely well-written fic that does it for me, and there tends to be a heck of a lot less ER fic around, let alone well-written ER fic. It's much easier to get that quick emotional fix from a first-time fic—because, as you say, there are certain markers that can induce an almost Pavlovian response in a reader (or, y'know, me ;)), whereas it's soooo much harder to get that same oomph from an ER story.
Oddly, the one fandom I can think of that seems to have loads and loads of it (and most of it astoundingly well-written) is Generation Kill. But I'm probably remembering this because I was all, "Yesyes, this is lovely and all, but I want Brad and Nate kissing messily for the first time in a bunker, dammit!" Heh.
Dude, I am totally relying on you and

Ahhh, as for Generation Kill -- I dl'd the series but haven't been quite in the mood to watch it just yet. I'm sure that once I do I'll have to come back and poke you for recs! =D
