I finished re-watching Whistle! last night, around 3am.

WHY DO THE REALLY REALLY GOOD STORIES HAVE TO BE SO SHORT?!

I enjoyed Wild Striker, which is 52 episodes, but is NO WHERE NEAR as awesome as Whistle! Why couldn't Whistle! have been longer~?

Also, why isn't there much of a fandom for this series? The characters are soooo great. So much to work with. If I knew more about soccer...

EDIT: OMG, I just read something that spoiled the end of the manga for me. (I don't mind so much because I don't know the specifics of how it happened, but OMG!!!!!!) I'm going to die.

I randomly dl'd a bunch of chapters from the Whistle! manga, and my love and excitement for the anime was renewed. If you haven't seen or read it, I HIGHLY recommend it. It's about a kid who wants to play soccer on his school team, and his drive and determination to become better. Yes, it's a shounen sports story. Not necessarily atypical, but the characters are absolutely the best! =D The manga's 24 volumes, of which I have 14 chapters. Please dl them if you're interested. The anime is 39 episodes, so although it ends relatively quickly (*sobs* T_T) it also doesn't go on forever past its prime (aka, filler).

Reading the manga has made me literally jump up and down in excitement. I have to go watch it over. <3

I finally finished Beck! Episode 25 played fine, but 26 was a motherfucker! It would play a couple of minutes, stop. Then I tried to play it again, and it would play from a few seconds after the place where it stopped -- for a minute or two, then stop. Repeat process. So I missed a couple of seconds every few minutes. I know I didn't miss too much of the story, but it really broke up the mood of it. aslfjaslashdfljsk! It's such a good show, I really adored Koyuki, but was so disappointed in the way it ended. It wasn't a bad ending, I just want more, dammit! And the whole thing with Ryuusuke (is it Ryousuke or Ryuusuke?) being all secretive and unfathomable sometimes bugged me. A lot. Probably because I liked Koyuki a lot more and just felt cheated out of seeing him because I had to watch Ryuusuke being stupid.

Also watched two episodes of Peach Girl. I had started reading the second half of the manga (which the Americans have called "Change of Heart" even though it's all under "Peach Girl" in the Japanese), so I kind of know what happens later in the series. Boy am I glad. I really, really like the series, but I know that if I didn't know what happened later I'd be horribly upset by the evil Sae-chan! What a bitch! Momo likes Touji and Sae does anything and everything to make Momo feel bad, even besides trying to break them up (and they literally just started going out)! I really like Momo, though, she's got guts and sense -- she doesn't fall for Sae's traps initially, only when she sees what really does look like incriminating evidence. Anyway, I wish I could read the first part of the manga, but since it was licensed quite a while ago, it's near impossible to find it on IRC, and just as impossible to find it in a bookstore to be able to read it there (I'm *so* not paying $10/volume to buy over 6 volumes!).

I've watched up to episode 16 of Wild Striker and I almost wish I'd seen this one before seeing Whistle!, because Whistle is so much better (so far) and even though I'm enjoying WS, it makes me roll my eyes a lot more than it might have if I hadn't seen Whistle. But I'm still enjoying it enough to continue.... provided Angelica gives me the next bunch of episodes because once I get to 19, if I don't have more, I might end up stopping! (Oh, btw, Liz dl'd episode 32 from IRC for you -- she's so nice! So, when you get home, give her a call and if she's home she can AIM it to you since it's on the home computer.)

I have also downloaded episodes 10 and 11 of Tsubasa Chronicle, but haven't seen them yet. And I'm going to try and get back into dl'ing manga from IRC. I really miss it, but I hate not being caught up, and especially 'cause we lost a lot of manga when our computer crashed in February. =(

Yesterday was Liz's last day of school (except for two finals, Friday and Monday) and she wanted to hang out with someone, so she asked Maryann to come over. As a result, both Liz and Maryann were waiting for me when I got home. ^^; We went out to eat and pick up my mom from the train station, dropped her and Liz off, and then drove Maryann to the bus. It was only 9pm, but I was eager to get home so I could watch anime.

God, that stuff is more addictive than [insert addictive drug here].

Liz and I watched 5 more episodes of Initial D Fourth Stage; so we have 10-14 left and still waiting for 15-16 to be released. And it's so good -- another series they insist on being stingy with. In total, it's over 50 episodes, but you can tell that they have to cut some things short in order to fit them to the season episode limit. =( Poo.

After Ini-D, Liz went to sleep. But I was still awake and craving anime. So I ended up watching 5 episodes of Wild Striker. Although definitely not as intense and driven as Whistle! was, it's silly and good. It also has over 30 episodes, so I suspect it will pick up in intensity after a while. I don't like so much the two other players who you know are going to become good friends with Kyousuke and star players of the team, which is odd. Maybe I will get to like them more later. Another part of the "intensity" factor is the presence of extraneous characters. This is what makes it more comedy than anything else, so far. In Whistle, there are barely any characters other than those either part of the team, or those playing against the team. In WS, there are some characters that are part of the setting, but don't really have much to do with Kyousuke's training (which hasn't really been touched upon yet anyway).

::sigh:: It just comes down to the fact that it isn't as intense. But I do like it, and I should have no problem continuing. Which reminds me that I have to remember to search for episode 32 to dl off of IRC or something (apparently all the versions of episode 32 that are available via bittorrent are corrupt). Angelica, you have to email me the website or tag of the group that subs it.

On a side note: these LJ tags are cool although I'm somewhat annoyed because it's kind of what I tried to do with the memories function a year or two ago, but it just got too much to keep track of. And I'm kind of anal, so I hate to just start using it now without adding tags to all of my posts, but I don't really want to go back and add tags to 408 posts (even though that's not many compared to some)! ::coughSharoncoughSparcckcough::

Having stayed up until 4am on Sunday night, watching Whistle up to episode 36, I was somewhat disappointed not to be able to watch those last 3 episodes. Yesterday at lunch I watched two of them, and then last night I finished the series. It's soooooo good. I know I could practically start a riot saying this, but-- forget Prince of Tennis; I wish they'd made Whistle into a 170+ episode series! Granted, I've seen "only" around 40-50 episodes of PoT, but I like Whistle a whole lot more. I wish it hadn't had to end. I wish they would come out with another season. I'm obviously going to have to look for scanlations to dl.

I'm obviously just a Kazamatsuri fangirl, like... er, whatshername... except without the high-pitched voice. ^^;

After finishing that, I started to watch the first episode of Wild Striker, but Liz had gotten up to the Bevelle Tower Level 100 boss (FFX-2), and wanted to beat him. So I stopped, watched her beat him (he was not as difficult as some, if you equipped the right accessories ~ but still potentially fatal). Once she beat him, she wanted to continue playing because now we can finally finish the game! But I knew it would probably take a while, and I was really more in the mood to watch anime than to play video games. So I got her to watch Initial D Fourth Stage with me. Oohh~ it's sooo cute! Takumi's really adorable, and it's cool that he's getting better, working stuff out for himself (with Ryousuke's subtle aid, of course). We saw the first four episodes and then went to sleep.

I'm so excited to be watching anime again. ^^ Of course, this means I've been totally neglecting reading. But I go through phases anyway, so I'll take advantage of my anime-watching phase until I move onto the gaming phase or reading phase.

I'm *so* tired. And that wouldn't be so bad, but I'm sleepy too. >_< On Friday, as I reported, I went out with friends to see Howl's Moving Castle. I did neglect to mention some things about the night because I was literally falling asleep at the computer while I was typing that up. (I even left some of the coding unfinished when it was posted, LOL, but I've fixed it now.)

A little more about Friday night. )

On Saturday... )

On Sunday, after only 4 hours of sleep, I went to work at the store for 7 hours. I was so dead that I was being very indifferent toward pretty much anything and everything that day. Not grouchy or snappy, just indifferent. I didn't have the energy to form much of an opinion on anything. Except for the fact that I wasnted sweetened Passion Iced Tea from Starbucks, and had two Venti cups of it. =D

Sunday wasn't all that exciting or anything, but since I wasn't able to watch any episodes of Whistle since around Wednesday, I was feeling really desperate to watch more! So I started watching (somewhere between 25 and 28) at midnight, and didn't stop until the end of episode 36 at 4am! So I had almost 3 hours of sleep, but I am *so* paying for it now -- I'm finding it even more difficult to stay awake at my desk. Even writing this post isn't helping all that much.

Last night I had some free time to waste and I wanted to watch anime. What I really wanted to do is watch Card Captor Sakura or Samurai Champloo, or even better, finish those last two episodes of Beck, dammit! However, all that I have right now (on DVD-R and/or my laptop) is Sailor Moon Live Action (which I want to see but am not in the mood to start just yet), Trinity Blood 1-2, Basilisk 1-3, Whistle, and the latest episode of Tsubasa Chronicle (9).

Well, you say, that's a lot to choose from! But I wanted to be able to watch a lot of episodes back-to-back, without switching anime. So between SM Live Action and Whistle, I chose Whistle. I'd started the first episode about a week ago and found it a bit boring.

Apparently, you just have to get past that first episode. 'Cause it's pretty damn good after that... I was up until 3am! Watching up to episode 14 or 15! And I really didn't want to stop, but I knew I'd be *really* dead tired if I didn't go to sleep for the meager 3.5 hours that I did.

You don't know just how badly I really, really wanted to stay home today.
