So... there's really no excuse for my lack of updates.

Unexpectedly, and suuuper last-minute, I will be attending Acen in Chicago! We'll have a much-reduced booth, where I and a photographer will be shooting Hall cosplay contestants and Masquerade participants. So if you're going to be at Acen this year, please come by and say hi!

I'm really looking forward to this because it'll give me a chance to see people I haven't seen in too long! I'm only sad that my usual booth crew (Judy, Liz, Juliet) won't be there. But at least I'll be seeing a couple of them in July when they come to the West Coast for San Diego Comic Con! I'm tentatively expecting to attend the con, but we'll see how that actually works out.

Even more than people at Acen, though, I'm reeeeeeeallly excited to visit [livejournal.com profile] honeymull!!! The con ends Sunday but I'm not leaving Chicago til Tuesday, which means HAVING ALL THE (DRUNKEN) FUN WITH RACHEL! \o/ I'm really hoping there's a Rangers game that Monday night, so we can go to a bar and yell excitedly or belligerently at the screen together! It's hard being lone NYR fans away from NYC. Thank fuck for twitter. <3

My Chicago itinerary:
Thursday 04/26/12:
US 007 LAX 12:40pm → PHX 2:07pm
US 007 PHX 3:10pm → ORD 8:27pm

Tuesday 05/01/12:
UA 411 ORD 8:44pm → LAX 11:22pm

So, doing the photo booth at Acen again this year... of which Sunday is my birthday. Which means my birthday party will be the weekend before. Still not quite sure how I feel about this, but am now resigned to it. =/

It feels really wrong to have paid $275 to be at a con for actually less than 48 hours (even though two-thirds of that will be reimbursed).
Friday 05/20/11:
AA 371 LGA 8:20pm → ORD 9:55pm

Sunday 05/22/11:
AA 350 ORD 5:55pm → LGA 9:10pm

To actually read through 45 pages of prompts over on the Inception kinkmeme? That didn't actually mean I had to go and track a million interesting-looking prompts. MY MAILBOX IS OVERFLOWING WITH FILLS AND COMMENTS. WHYYYYYYYY.

SELF, YOU ARE FULL OF PLEASANT AND FAILY IDEAS.

Ahahah, in case anyone is wondering I did actually make it to my friend's place in Chicago alive and well. Serendipitously, I met up with another [livejournal.com profile] wincon fangirl who was taking a cab to the Metra station so I was all "YAY SPLITTING COST TO TRAIN STATION" but then the cab driver asked where we were going and long-story-short he drove us into the city and it basically cost each of us the same as if we'd taken the cab to the Metra station separately. \o/

The whole weekend has been absolutely full of win and fun times and awesome people! And I totally forgot what it was like to fangirl ridiculously about ridiculous things with, like, A WHOLE HOTEL FULL OF SIMILARLY-MINDED PEOPLE. If Wincon is in New Orleans next year I'm so there.

Also, HI NEW PEOPLE! Thank you for making my first Wincon a totally awesome one where I did not feel awkward and left out! You maybe possibly want CATBOY!ARTHUR FICS & ART, Y/Y? YOU NEED IT. TO LIVE. IT'S NOT AS CRACKY AS YOU THINK IT IS.

Tonight I'm going to the CHI v. STL game with [livejournal.com profile] faithbeckett which is going to be AWESOME. Yeah, you'd think I'd be excited to see the hotness that is MUCH OF THE BLACKHAWKS TEAM in person -- and it's true 'cause goddamn, I hope Sharpie and Toews and Kane and Keith each get a million goals -- but I HOPE I SEE JD. <3

So I keep saying I'm broke, and I am -- but that's what credit cards are for, right?

I've bought tickets to several upcoming events that... I don't regret buying them, certainly, and I think they're very worth it both in having the experience and the ticket price. But damn I wish I wasn't broke right now, or that the events weren't right now... or some combination thereof so that I could hold onto my money instead of watch it go flying out the window.

I'm really going to have to work on either my self-discipline, or getting better at avoiding being notified of events I'm interested in. Haha, good luck, me.

So my newest addition is the NYR v. CHI game on Monday 11/1! TicketExchange has tickets available for the game, and I was able to buy a pair of the cheap tickets in the 400s. I AM EXCITE, PEOPLE! Not only will I be seeing the CHI v. STL game on this coming Monday IN CHICAGO (where I can wear my Toews jersey), but I'll also see them at home in MSG where I'll be wearing one of my Rangers jerseys on the occasion. ETA: I only wish that Burish was still a Blackhawk; nothing would give me more pleasure than to see Bur and Aves chirping at each other hahahah!

Upcoming events:
Oct 14-19: Wincon and CHI v. STL game in Chicago
Oct 23: The Bees' Knees Housewarming Party
Oct 28: JGL/hitRECord.org's Fall Formal
Oct 30: GGRD Championship Bout
Nov 1: NYR v. CHI
Nov 4: Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake
Nov 7: NYR v. STL
Nov 24ish: BERLIN HERE I COME? (OMG I haven't yet bought tix yet or arranged for a hostel stay!!!)

Unfortunately, I did not find Fraser or either Rays wandering around. I tried to go to the Canadian Consulate, but this resulted in epic fail that wasn't even realized until I got back and looked up the address again. We were around the corner from it at 180 Randolph Avenue instead of 180 N Stetson Ave. (AND OMG, WHY IS THE CANADIAN CONSULATE ON A STREET NAMED AFTER A HAT?!) So, it's actually the building directly behind the one I thought it was. SIGH. WHATEVER. YOU'RE STILL GOING TO GET MY NOW-POINTLESS PICTURES.

pic spam? )

And BONUS PHOTO: Juliet and I took the bus over to United Center and walked around the area (pretty much deserted except for a high school gym class running laps!), but abruptly came across this street! I was like, OMG I SHOULD FOLLOW THIS UNTIL I COME ACROSS THE BURNT REMAINS OF FRASER'S OLD BUILDING. Instead, I just took the picture. Lame, I know.

More photos here on fbook.

ETA: I really feel like Chicago is more like NYC than any other major US city (that I've been to). And I suppose, knowing that Chicago is the 3rd largest city in the US (with almost 3 million), I guess it makes sense.

Only Los Angeles (almost 4 million) and NYC (almost 9 million) are larger!

Hah, so yes, I wanted the Hawks v. Sharks game to be on Sunday. I got my wish. Except it's at 2pm CT, which means that although I'll be IN CHICAGO AT THE TIME, I'll also be WORKING. This sucks beyond belief. It's at the EXACT WRONG time for me to be watching it. I'm so fucking pissed; I HATE NBC!!!

And to top it off, I remember seeing somewhere that the Eastern Conference Final (Habs v. Bruins/Flyers-winner) game 1 will also be Sunday, at 7pm ET. WHY IS IT THE SAME DAY? So, instead of having a game every night henceforth, there will be overlapping games every other night? WHAT SENSE DOES THIS MAKE?! I want MORE days of hockey, not fewer!

*RAGE*

Relatedly, game 7 of the Bruins v. Flyers series is tonight and I REALLY REALLY want to go watch it with people in the city but I'm leaving early tomorrow for Chicago and I've got to pick up my laundry, and pack, and take out the trash and things like that, so it makes more sense to watch from home. DAMMIT.

In any case, I shall not be around this weekend, including Monday, so I'm missing out on week 3 of The Great Due South Rewatch and whatever other shenanigans occur. BUT! I will try to come back with pictures of the Canadian Consulate in Chicago (with hopefully a Mountie and two Chicago Detectives -- one in an absurdly bright-colored silk shirt, one with dorky looking glasses and experimental hair -- in front)!

FIRST. Blackhawks win over the Canucks 5-1 in an exciting game, though it seems Vancouver kind of just gave up late in the second and definitely in the third.

THEN. @TSNBobMcKenzie says he thinks Western Conference Finals will start either Friday or Sunday. WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS HOPING FOR -- because then I'd be able to actually watch a game in a Chicago bar while I'm there!!!! since I'm only free on Sunday night to do so -- but I was thinking that it would FOR REALS NOT WORK THAT WAY. BUT NOW IT MIGHT!

AND THEN. It's announced that X-JAPAN IS PLAYING LOLLAPALOOZA THIS YEAR. WITH SUGIZO. Seriously, WTF is up with things happening in Chicago this year?! Not that I'm going to go to this, but damn! The US has come a LONG way; seeing Japanese bands like D'espairsray and Dir en Grey successfully tour the US (and come back for more), and then arguably THE biggest metal/visual kei band EVER out of Japan is coming over to play...

I just wish one day BUCK-TICK would do this. I know their fanbase in the US is no where near the other bands I mentioned. BUT! <3 I'd love to see them again. I really wish I'd been able to see them in the 1996-1999 era. *pouts*

So my 7:45pm flight was cancelled. They automatically put me on the next flight -- tomorrow at 6am. I don't think so. Instead, I had it changed to the 6:45pm flight today. I'll have to leave work a bit earlier than I intended, but it's worth it.

Found out that Bartko won't be at Acen after all. How disappointing. =(

Dammit Jim, why'd you forget?!

I have a feeling that Acen will be EXHAUSTING. If you're going to be there, give me a call, or just drop by the booth. I expect to be there pretty much from open to close. I'm so happy I'm taking an extra day, though. I'm excited to be going to Acen, but I'm somewhat more excited to be able to hang out and relax once Sunday afternoon finally rolls around. Unfortunately, Judy, Anna, Sean and Rymel will be flying back to NYC on Sunday, but Jim and Bartko will be around til Monday. And Juliet lives in Chicago for school. And possibly there will be other tech staff I've met who will be hanging around til Monday. Oh, and Alex will be there with his band, The Spoony Bards, until Monday also! I haven't seen him since [livejournal.com profile] chienverde's birthday party/lunch in Chinatown last year!

WOO! Can't wait!
