    ** I have little to no expectation that these particular starred fics will actually be finished, but THEY'RE STILL FUCKING WORTH READING! The other fics are regularly updated or by people who generally finish fics.

And on the subject of fics that explore asexuality: I have a thing for them I never before knew I had? With the proviso that I'm talking about well-written fic in general, here, I think I have a kink for this particular topic because whether or not there's any actual sex involved, it's more about understanding and communication than anything else. I suppose it necessarily includes some of that delicious Victorian UST... and angst because it's one-sided... but there's still a real connection. Anyway, here are two by the wonderful acidpop25, who writes it so amazingly well:

2. Cold (Theodore/Blaise) -- I should explain that this one is a... it's a... it's a Harry Potter fic. One of the two HP fic I ever felt the urge to read, and of course this one is two minor characters I had to call several people to ask so I had even an inkling of who/what they were before just diving into the fic anyway. This is one of the most romantic, angsty, sad, beautiful fic I've ever read -- and to bring it right around, it's so full of understanding that I-- I can't even articulate? Just read it. <3

ETA: I know that blue_soaring wrote an awesome asexual!Holmes/Watson, but I've got to go find it...

OH HAI THERE, SWOOPING IN TO TELL YOU MY THOUGHTS ON ASEXUALITY FIC :D (this is callan, btw) :D but yes, I agree with all the points you've made here- the victorian-esque ust (which is my kryptonite in general), the angst, the increased intimacy, and just from a narrative pov, its by neccesity more complicated & thoughtful than your archetypical TENSION-MUTUAL DECLARATIONS-TAB A/SLOT B ficcery; there has to be conversation, negotiation, and the demarcation of boundaries, and from a character standpoint that can be really fascinating (especially with bbc!sherlock, where its just an extension of two very different characters meeting in the middle) There's lots of it in all incarnations of the holmes fandom, but particularly the beeb corner of it- http://archiveofourown.org/works/117682 <-- nice example. And have you read wordstrings' paradox series? not asexuality, but the same sort of figuring out FINE/NOT FINE, very fucked up & co dependent but awesome. http://wordstrings.livejournal.com/.

YAY I'm extremely happy you're telling me your thoughts on asexuality fic! \o/

Yeah, basically all that-- conversation, negotiation, demarcation of boundaries, figuring stuff out is what I love, and thus also why I love good BDSM fics so much. I've gotten really sick of BDSM fic that's only an excuse for handcuffs and paraphernalia and whatnot... or like, extreme h/c... but there are a few reliable writers of actual D/s dynamics and lifestyle and discussion and aftercare stuff. WHICH IS TOTALLY MY KRYPTONITE! ^_~ But I'm kind of new to the asexuality kink as the fandom I was in just prior to this is a teeny fandom (Due South/C6D) and has no asexuality fic I've ever come across.

BTW, THANK YOU for linking to those fic! I'm pretty much not so active in any fandom but C6D and Inception, so if you have more (specific fic and/or authors) to rec, please let me know!!! I do occasionally go looking for SH fic, but it's only intermittently. =D

Oh dude, totally, cause that's the fascinating stuff- the journey is really more interesting than the destination, or at least has the potential to be if you approach it that way and aren't just LOLZ HANDCUFFS AND WHIPS about it. Which i agree is frustrating, when there's all this great character/personality/relationship dynamic stuff to be explored...aaaand its not.

And you know, i've heard nothing but nice things about due south fandom? Granted, i come from torchwood, the burning land of constant wars & salted earth :D but yeah, i'd imagine size & the amount of writers would play a role in what sort of fics turn up :D

OMG ISN'T IT SO FUCKED UP AND AWESOME AND DELICIOUS?!! totally not the sort of thing i'd ordinarily like, and has the potential to be an utter trainwreck, but its so beautifully written & sensitively handled and weirdly romantic and just.. GOOD :D definitely one of those stories that's like '..OMG THIS IS MY CANON NOW'. lol YES LOVE IT LIKE CRIME SCENES! so glad you enjoyed! :D
