Currently obsessed with Inception, in case you hadn't noticed it's all over my twitter?
Should you be reading this,
thebroodwich: Shut it.
Don't worry: NO SPOILERS HERE. (Some in comments, heed warnings.)
Have things to say about the two obvious names, several interpretations/perspectives on the story (in its own right as well as as-metaphor), and the meaning of the end scene. I'm going to see it again on Saturday (double feature, after Salt) with Liz, Raquel, Maryann and whoever else, and I will try to formulate some coherent thoughts that aren't just *squeeeee*.
Mostly I'm still going to be flailing over the ARTHUR + EAMES = OTP equation, as
morganwolf so aptly put it earlier.
Also, I really need to dig out my DVDs so I can re-watch The Prestige.
Anyone who would like to squee and/or flail at me re: Inception is EXTREMELY welcome to. =D
ETA: This is a really good theory about the meaning of the end scene. I only wish I'd waited to read it until after I saw it a second (or more) time(s), dammit. /o\ DAMMITDAMMITDAMMIT.
ETA2: Another article I want to read, but this time will wait until I've seen it again.
ETA3: NY Mag interview with Dileep Rao re his thoughts on plot/answers/etc.
ETA4: List of various theories and bookshop's list of meta

Date: 2010-07-23 03:39 am (UTC)The Prestige is one of the few movies that -- not only did I see it in the theaters TWICE when it came out, but also IMMEDIATELY bought the DVD upon release. Definitely in my Top 10.
If you can wait til next week for it, I'd be happy to lend it to you. =D

Date: 2010-07-23 09:09 am (UTC)Now I'm really hoping the casting rumors for Batman 3 are true, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be the new Riddler. I liked him a lot as Arthur.
BE WARNED -- SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!
Date: 2010-07-23 03:11 pm (UTC)I don't think this is the ONLY interpretation, or even the "most right" one or anything. The best part of open-ended movies is that you get to speculate and theorize and use this detail to support this idea and that detail to support that idea. And though you can argue the plausibility or likelihood of one idea over another, and how to explain this or that detail, none of them are wrong.
*gets excited all over again*
I do think that his interpretation about the movie-as-metaphor for filmmaking was pretty darn awesome. Something I hadn't (and probably never would have) thought of myself. A friend pointed out a hole or two in the analogy (4 dream levels =/= 3 acts of a movie; why would the director [Cobb] make sure the screenwriter [Ariadne] keep him in the dark?), but I think they're somewhat explainable, and even if the explanations don't completely satisfy -- well, it's somewhat unrealistic to expect a 100% perfect analogy/metaphor down to the itty bitty details, especially when all the rest of it works so well.
I mean, it's not math! ^_~
(Sorry for the tl;dr!)
Didn't hear about the JGL-as-Riddler rumor, but that would certainly be interesting! ...and now I'm imagining Inception/Batman 3 crossover fic.... LOLZ!
BTW, I wanted to mention that Dean/Cas just clicked for me recently, and if you have any recs in that direction, I'd love to read them. <3
Re: BE WARNED -- SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!
Date: 2010-07-24 12:29 pm (UTC)I wish I could recommend some Dean/Cas fic for you, but I don't read slash for live action shows any more. The one fic I did read that I liked a lot was gen:

If you'd be interested in recs from someone else, here's a huge list of them:

Btw, Misha Collins is such an adorable guy. I had a blast seeing him in Parsippany a couple weeks ago. I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard. ♥

Date: 2010-07-23 03:14 pm (UTC)And possibly discussion of The Prestige as well? When I left the theater all I could think was that I was strongly reminded of The Prestige and that I wanted to go home and watch it over right then (though since I'd caught the midnight showing and didn't get home til 3am, that didn't actually happen).
I'm not surprised we both thought The Prestige was awesome!!! =D

Date: 2010-07-24 03:35 am (UTC)There's room to argue that the ring is his totem, and when he's dreaming, he wears it. But after his cathartic "letting go" of Mal, I could easily imagine that his ideal, "dream self" would also let go.
Also, there's evidence to suggest that the entire movie is a dream state ,to plant the "wake up" inception in Cobb. It's really a dense, awesome movie with a lot to think about. Next time we hang out, we'll have to talk about it!
Let me know when you watch Memento, there's some neat symmetry there, and it's worth looking/thinking about.

Date: 2010-07-24 03:50 am (UTC)Also, I find this to be a pretty helpful graphic when dealing with the ending. Sometimes people get a little confused about the dream structure at the end.
