A couple of things I wanted to ask/discuss:

(1) Katsucon.

a. Jim's offer to borrow his Jetta fell through because the engine's dead. Anyone know of someone who can replace a 95 Jetta engine for me? He's offered to give me the car, but obviously it's useless unless I can get it working. Also, I know nothing about cars except how to drive them.

b. So in light of the fact that I'm now without a ride to Katsu, does anyone want to split the cost of a rental with me & Judy? Anna & Ben (whom I'll be talking to tonight) have first dibs, but the cost of a rental is around $110-130 plus gas and tolls, of course. I'm estimating gas at $90 and tolls at $40. So we're talking about something like $65 each unless I've completely underestimated. The Greyhound to DC is only $40, so it's a bit more expensive, but also more convenient!

(2) Psych. Has anyone seen the show? What do you think of it?

(3) Has anyone seen that Tom Cruise Scientology award clip? NINE AND A HALF MINUTES of pure incoherence and circular reasoning! Talk about craziness, whoa.

(4) Kevin McCullough. As I was telling people last night, I found his blog and read a couple of random previous entries. SCARY! The only time I've ever read that sort of blatantly provocative Christian Right harangue has been in genre fiction novels, when the slightly fanatical "bad guy" spouts closed-minded drivel. Whether or not he believes all he sermonizes about aside, the fact that there are people who actually vehemently agree with him and support that POV -- it's just nightmareish.

What AJ said is true -- it's better to just not respond to his rantings than to respond and give him attention that will only serve to make him more popular. *shrugs* I never respond to blogs or forums anyway. But it's hard not to want to talk about my reaction, though I feel somewhat speechless in the face of his closed-mindedness. It's one thing to know people think this way and another to really "hear" it. Ugh.

It also just reinforces my opinion that it was a huge mistake for Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama to run against each other at this point in time. The most important thing, IMO, is for a Democrat to be elected. Who the hell cares which one? Let's just please not vote another Republican into office! I think it would be smarter for democrats to vote for whoever is more likely to win against a Republican in the Presidential Election. Unfortunately, it's a difficult choice that Clinton and Obama have forced us to make.

I like some of Tom Cruise's movies, but I think he's a very strange man. That video doesn't change my opinion of him.

2. I saw 1-2 eps of it a few seasons ago, and it was amusing but not particularly substantive. Dunno what it's like now, but it's good if you need to watch TV and there's nothing else on. I don't really think it's worth downloading.

5. I wuvoo! =D

I love Psych. Have you seen the one where they go on an "American Idol"-type thing? XD

Yeah - the white guy, Shawn, is the son of a cop who used to drill detective methods into his wee head as a child, so he's just really observant, and most of how he solves crimes is based off of stuff he notices that most people ignore. The black guy, Gus, is his bestest friend since grade school - basically the sensible one to Shawn's wacky one. The banter between them is just fabulous, and since they both grew up in the 80's they make a lot of 80's pop culture references and geekspeak. It's not Shakespeare or anything, but it's funny and awfully cute.
