Moving Day goings-on

Friday was one weird day, as I guess most moving days often are.
Woke up at 9 or so to get ready to meet Maryann and go pick up the U-Haul. Pop ended up driving us there, which was very nice of him, and allowed us to stick to the schedule because it was a bit farther down than I thought it was. Waited for a while on line, but eventually got the U-Haul cargo van, which was to be returned by 7pm that night.
Driving the U-Haul was much fun, btw. I forgot what it was like to go over bumps and pot-holes and not really have to worry about damaging the undercarriage of the car. Hah. We made a quick stop at my house to pick up the camera, and take a pic of me in the U-Haul. Ah, the priorities of youth.
After that, we got on our way to Maryann's house in the Bronx. No hitches; parked the van across the street from her house, and left to get the bus and train to meet Victor at GCS. We decided while we were on the bus and it was already 11:30, that maybe we should meet at 86th and Lexington instead of 42nd so time wouldn't be wasted in him waiting for us, and then just having to go right back uptown again. We met and went back to Maryann's house where we proceeded to take out some of the boxes she'd been packing up til 5am that morning (crazy girl), and help her pack some more of her stuff. Victor, Elise and I went out to bring some of the boxes over to Victor's car. We loaded the boxes in, and that's when I noticed that... he had a flat tire! *facepalm* And it came out of nowhere, too. When we parked after getting to Maryann's house, it hadn't been flat -- I don't know how it got that way, but it sucked. Luckily, he had a full size spare on the back of the 4x4.
We continued to pack, dismantle her bed (bottom bunk of a bunk bed) and dresser, and bring them down in pieces to load them into the cargo van. I should have taken a picture, but I didn't think of it at the time. We also played with her new kitten. Ooohh~ he's soooo adorable. And tiny. And cute. And playful. Okay, I'm going to stop now.
By the time we were done, it was 4:30pm. We headed back over the bridge to Queens. Victor, of course, has EZ-Pass, so he got to cruise through the toll. I, on the other hand, had to wait on the beginning-of-rush-hour Cash lane. Then, the guy at the toll booth checked the weight of the van and said that we had to pay the truck fare ($9 instead of $4.50), and then the cops asked us to pull over just past the toll booth because it's a "Truck Inspection Point". So he needed my license and rental paperwork, and then he asked me to get out and open up the back so he could see what was inside. He looked and said, "You got a futon back there?" I said, "Yeah, my friend's moving." He kinda looked a few seconds more and said, "Okay." Then asked me to close it up and get back in the cab. Which I did, and then he came back and gave me back my license and rental paperwork. Finally, we were on our way back to Queens. (In the meantime, Victor had crossed the bridge and pulled over on the other side to wait for us.)
We made a quick stop at Wendy's to get much needed people-fuel, and went back to my house. We ate with Angelica and Liz at the table, then started to unload the van because by that time it was 5:40 and we needed to get going at 6:30 to make it back to the rental place in time. But it's much quicker work to unload than to load -- even having to put down the carpet first (from my old room in the apartment, that has been folded up in my room for the last couple of weeks).
We then made the trip to the rental place, with Victor following in his car so he could drive us back to my house. We got there at 6:45, but realized we'd forgotten to fill up the gas. So we told the guy we just had to go fill up the gas, and we'd be right back. We only used 3 gallons, so it was not so (relatively) expensive. We got back at 7pm. The cost for the rental came out to only $65! (Well, we did only go 30 miles, anyway.)
So we came back to my house to move my sister's bed, and move the couch in my computer room, as well (thank you, Victor!), which didn't take very long. After that we were all ready to go back to our respective homes.
I told Victor directions (Grand Central Parkway to the BQE), and led him with my car to the appropriate exit. However, I realized just after he was out of my line of sight, that I'd given him wrong directions (I told him to take GCP toward JFK, instead of LGA ~ I'm so stupid; I always mix up those two). OMG, you do not know how bad I felt 'cause he'd said specifically that he didn't want to get lost in Queens (not having ever really been to Queens before). With Angelica, Maryann, and Elise in the car, I kept harping on how, OMG, I feel so bad, etc., etc. They made fun of me, those bitches. I left him a message, send him a text message, and had Angelica keep calling him, in hopes that he'd pick up his phone even though he was driving. Eventually, he answered and said that he'd found Atlantic Avenue and took that into Brooklyn. I felt so relieved that he'd realized it was the wrong way, asked directions, got back on track -- I felt soooo much better afterward; I cheered right up (and they made even more fun of me for that, too).
Dropped off Elise, then Maryann, then Angelica.
Of course when I got home, it was not the end of my day, I still had all the other stuff to move away from the walls. Liz, Mom and I finished up around midnight.
Pics to come soon.
