So... I'll be going to Disneyland on Friday with Rich. FUN TIMES, YES? If you have any ride recs, let me know. Basically have been told to ride anything with "mountain" in the name. =D Actually, I did go to Disneyland once before, when I was 17, but jeeeez that was a while ago and somehow I barely remember anything about it other than loving the Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain, and having a suuuuper fun time with Liz even though she dragged me on all the kiddie rides (she was 10 at the time).

So anyway... PARASAILING! In Marina Del Rey a few weeks ago. With [livejournal.com profile] likeaglass and another friend. [livejournal.com profile] elipie was supposed to be there but ahhhhh, the timing didn't work out too well. T_T

Hanging from a harness that falls into a seat shape, clipped onto a bar that hangs from a parachute... 800 feet in the air! It's a lot like skydiving once your parachute has opened. It's beautiful and relaxing and exhilarating. (Can something be relaxing and exhilarating at the same time?) It made me miss skydiving lots, though. But it was a lot cheaper since we had 2-for-1 groupons.

Pics of FUN TIMES! (And seals!) )

Hmmmm. I wonder if I can come up with some sort of skydiving-related tattoo for myself. I'll have to ruminate on that one for a while.

Have been here in LA for almost four weeks now. It's really, really different than NYC in a lot of little ways, but of course it's not quite as different as being in another country. ^_~

Still searching for a job, and not doing too much else since I'm trying not to spend money. The first week I was here I certainly spent enough: buying a bed and a bookcase, furniture for the living room, dishes for the kitchen, groceries, etc. And LOL, gas. Why is gas so expensive here? It's at least a dollar more than it was in Albuquerque; basically around the same as NYC, though probably something like $.10 more per gallon.

Traffic here is both just like everyone says (HORRIBLE), but also not really as bad as it's infamy implies? Like, it's worse than NYC traffic at times, but I've been in worse traffic in NYC too. I've learned that the traffic seems to be worst on the streets leading up to freeway entrances; not really on the freeway itself. Don't get me started on my rant about dumb California drivers and even worse signage.

It's been tons of fun so far with Eli and Acadia; living with fangirls is clearly a singular experience. Going to try to update more often and get back to actually reading my flist, considering the amount of free time I have right now. But it's a bit difficult as I'm a bit plagued by cabin fever and all I want to do is go out.

BTW, I've utterly succumbed to Words With Friends, so if you're into that, please feel free to start a game with me (username: osaraba).

Also! OMG THANK YOU to [livejournal.com profile] xlovebecomesher, [livejournal.com profile] leashy_bebes, and [livejournal.com profile] koyappi for the v-gifts!!! YOU GUYS ARE AWFULLY SWEET! <333

So yeah, I'm.... going to Indonesia tomorrow. For six weeks. HOW WEIRD IS THAT, GUYS? I'm still sort of... I don't think it's actually set in? It probably won't til I arrive in the Jakarta airport, ahahaha. And besides that I can't wait to visit [livejournal.com profile] starafar in Singapore! HOW IS THIS EVEN MY LIFE?!

I'm showing my room to a friend of a friend in like, an hour, to see if she's interested in renting it for the rest of September. I'm seriously crossing my fingers on this because any little bit is going to help me pay my rent!

And randomly, a fic rec-- I'm in the middle of this awesome transgender!Merlin fic that's 93k words long and I'm just about done with the first third of. It's great. It's so great. I was trying to save it for the 16-hour flight... plus the three-hour layover in Hong Kong... plus the 5-hour flight from Hong Kong to Jakarta... but I just couldn't help myself.

So the new roomie moved in last night. Mark came in from work with the rest of his stuff around midnight. Judy was already sleeping, so we finished up with signing the sublease contract and rent things and then we kinda sat around chatting for like an hour and a half. So at least it's not weird superawkward silence or anything. He seems to be a cool guy, he does sound mixing/recording stuff so I'm kind of hoping I'll get to hear some cool new music I don't yet know about, maybe get some exposure to some interesting local bands (even though he's kinda into, you know, indie rock).

He's not a huge fan of hockey, but he grew up in Syracuse and knows enough about the Sabres to miss Drury! <3 So until further notice, he's cool in my book.

It helps that he's cute, too. =D

In other news, I am extremely pleased that it's Friday. I'm beginning to be torn over the fact that it's so pretty and warm outside and I want to go out... but there's a Rangers game tonight. I think I will compromise by getting out at Roosevelt and walking home from there. Which, really isn't even a mile away, so I feel like it's an insignificant distance, but it will satisfy some of the urge to be outside.

I'm often quite grateful that my place gets a lot of nice light. One of the many things I like about it! So I shall be opening windows and curtains... and I think I should probably change the curtains in my room to the sheer summery ones very soon!

I was talking with Shoobs and another coworker today and Shoobs said something about a place that has good margaritas and an outdoor park area -- which reminded me of last summer at Coney Island and drinking yummy beers at the outside bar on the sand. IT WAS SO NICE. WHO WANTS TO GO TO CONEY ISLAND THIS WEEKEND? I could be persuaded to forgo the NYR game on Saturday night in order to do this!

And, as a side note, I'm almost determined to like Drive-By Truckers and Lucero because. FIC. HOT. YES. (omg thank you [livejournal.com profile] sionnain.) \o/

I'm halfway there with DBT.
