Liz and Maryann got on line early, so there were only around 50 people in front of us. When they let us in, we were only a few rows in from the stage, but we still had an hour to wait for the opening band Ringside to go on. Their first song was awesome. Unfortunately the next songs were all too light for me. One was kinda catchy, but I kept feeling really odd about it -- it was just too disco for me. The last two songs were a little harder again. They're pretty mainstream, actually. On the lighter side, though... kinda like Dashboard Confessionals?
Their set was only 30 minutes long, but as soon as they got off the stage, the crowd surged forward. It went from a normal close crowd to pressed up against everyone else and you're lucky if your feet touched the floor. It was actually pretty weird -- I mean, we were at a Weezer concert; this wasn't a metal concert or anything, but it was more crowded and dangerous than any other concert I've been to -- and so unexpected. I mean, I love Weezer. But. It's Weezer. We were actually able to stay pretty close together for the most part, but once Weezer actually came on stage, it got even worse.
I would've been happy enough to stay there -- I like mosh crowds, but Maryann seemed to be getting completely lost, so I asked her if she wanted to leave. She couldn't decide, but eventually said yes. Liz stayed. We went off to the side where there were couches lined up against the wall and sat for a while. I couldn't see anything because there was a column in the way, but after a while we decided to try and go up to the balcony. We went toward the back and Maryann said she wanted a drink and that she'd buy me one. So I went to go get drinks and discovered that the balcony was VIP seating only. =( So we just kinda hung out at the back of the crowd. It wasn't that bad -- especially after getting another round of drinks. LOL. We were definitely buzzed by then. I'm actually kind of surprised because two drinks doesn't usually get me that quick. But I think I hadn't eaten for about 4 hours by that point, and I was totally not fighting the buzz anyway.
It was only around 10:15! We all got on the E uptown, but Maryann left at 53rd. It was really nice to be able to take the Q88 home for a change (the last bus is at 12:15am) once we got into Queens. And we got home at around 11:30! So early! Good thing too. School night for Liz and all. ^_~;
The concert -- music -- itself was pretty good. Being so far away from the stage kind of defeats the purpose of going to a live show. Not that I didn't enjoy it, because I did. But from where we were in the back, it was kind of like listening to the radio, but really loud. You just don't get to appreciate the live aspect of it when you pretty much can't see the band. At least, IMHO.
Poor Maryann -- she got home and upstairs pretty much in time to puke a couple of times. I think it was more due to the mix that she had rather than the strength of the alcohol. =( She doesn't have a hangover this morning, but is definitely still feeling the effects.
