Trip to Japan! (and other updates)

I realize I haven't posted in a LOOONG time. Well, let's see what I can tell you, in no particular (chronological) order.
Piercings -- I think I had neglected to mention that when Nicky was here, she got her lip pierced, and I got the conch of my right ear pierced. Angelica got two more helix/cartilage piercings and her mom got a rook. Nicky said she had to change the jewelry when she got back to her piercer in SF, but otherwise her lip has healed beautifully. Angelica's two helix piercings are another story -- they still haven't really healed yet, but she finally changed the jewelry from CBRs to barbells, so hopefully that will irritate less. Her mom's rook wasn't healing fast enough for her, so she took it out 'cause it was getting quite painful. As for me... after the initial week of swelling and secreting (that's "expelling fluids", not "hiding") and pain, it healed up right quick. ^_~ It's been really wonderful and I'm so glad that I got it! I was really nervous about it because I'd heard it was one of the most painful to heal, but I think it's actually been if not THE easiest and least painful, then certainly the second easiest! Also, I had stretched my first lobe holes to 10g, and those were coming along very nicely. I will post pics of my ears soon!!!
Now, I stretched my second lobe holes from 16g to 14g to be able to put some cute navel (curved) barbells in (although now I realize I bought ones that are too short and I have to go look for longer ones). And I bought 8g tapers online, so as soon as I get a pair of 8g CBRs or other jewelry that isn't as obvious as a taper, I'm going to stretch my first holes to 8g from 10g. I have to buy the less obvious jewelry first because I don't want the tapers to call attention at the UN (where I'm working part-time right now). And my nose is next on my list. Just as soon as I gently break the news to my parents.
Yaoicon/Warp 11 -- I had started writing a post about Yaoicon, and I have it saved, so I will finish it as best as possible even though it's about a month and a half later, and post it as soon as I can. I will summarize in saying that the con sucked (and Alex didn't finish my cosplay prop; grrrr), but at least I didn't really go for the con! It was awesome to see Nicky again. And having Maryann and Lene there was great (weird, but great)! I was ecstatic to be seeing Warp 11!!!! They so rock! Maryann wasn't able to get into the pub, but she met 3 out of the 4 members of the band after the show. And it was so cool to be able to talk to them -- and especially Brian (guitar), who was really cool and normal-like. I was pleased that we were able to talk about their music, actually. 'Cause I get the impression that a lot of times, bands -- for some reason -- don't like to talk about themselves with fans. ::shrugs:: I can't wait for their next CD to be released!
Holidays -- I'm taking Maryann to Unimax and Crazy Fantasy to buy earrings and get her ears pierced (2nd holes in lobes) for her Xmas/New Year's/Atheist Day gift. ^_~ Maryann, Angelica, Lene and I are all chipping in for Liz's Atheist Day gift (if you're reading this, Elizabeth, no peeking: a Sony CD walkman with AM/FM tuner and remote, and a pair of Volatile sneakers). For Angelica, I got a pair of tickets for us to see a musical on Broadway on the 29th (Angelica, no peeking: Dracula, which unfortunately closes on January 2nd, so I was fortunate to get tickets!). Yoshi's Xmas/birthday/welcome home party on the 26th. Victor's having a New Year's party/thing that Maryann and I will be going to -- dunno what it's going to be like, though, and I think it might be in New Jersey.
Speaking of the holidays, Sharon, I'm sending you a Christmas card I think you'll like. Although it might get there after Christmas, but still. ^_~
January -- I will continue to work part-time at the UN until the end of January. Late January, the store will be holding a trunk show event that I'm actually looking forward to. And I've been working on the store website, hopefully I'll have it done before then. It would be nice (but I have no free time!).
February -- I'm almost 100% sure that by the end of February, Angelica and I will be taking a trip to Japan for a week! How can we not take advantage of free housing from Yoshi?! Even though it's off-season (which is why the plane tickets are $300 cheaper), and even though ::sniffle:: neither Buck-Tick, Atsushi, or LUCY (Hisashi's band) are playing at the time. *sob* But maybe at least I'll be able to find band goods!!!! Ninmu Ryoukai!
Pics later. More updates later -- I'll try at least, I really miss writing in LJ frequently! It's a lot of fun to tell an anonymous (and sometimes not-so-anonymous) audience what happened during the day. (I must be some sort of secret exhibitionist or something.)

While she does have various pairings, most of her fics aren't pairing centered, she tends more towards plot and character development, and doesn't sissify anyone. Her "Source of All Things" has all the boys, the docs, magic and is working towards eventual 1x2x5, with present 3x4, but it is *not* a pairing based story at all. She creates very original worlds, writes *long* chapters, (SoaT is up to ch. 37) and has a rather warped sense of humor. Her Freeport is darker and focuses on Wufei, but it's not quite AU, it just takes place after the war and is working towards 2x5x2. If at some point you feel inclined to read a shortish bit that focuses on both Wufei and Duo and is *really* dark, her Darkside Tales are good, too. Serious psychological mindfuck material.
Sorry these don't fit all your criteria, I couldn't think of anything else that came close. ^^

She has three ongoing 1x2 stories that I'm reading now: Burning Candles (where Duo and Heero are Preventers and Duo has been kidnapped by some very bad people); Instincts (the boys as were-creatures), and Tiger Lilies (where Heero is trying to discover why Duo is so down on his luck). They can all be found at Kracken's site. You can also find her recently finished one, Lawless Hearts, there, too. They aren't about magic, but they do have lots of angst.
If you haven't read it yet, you should check out Sol's Find the Moon at scimitarsmile.com. It's a GW/FMA crossover that's really good. Duo ends up in Ed and Al's world. ^___^
So, you're going to Japan, eh? You'll have a fantastic time. I'll want to hear all about it when you go. It's a nice time of year, too. It won't be too warm. I'm all excited for you now.
