Friday night billiards.
Apr. 5th, 2004 02:09 amThursday night I spent several hours cleaning up my room, so it's pretty cool-looking now. Finished at 3:30am and so had almost 3 hours of sleep before having to get up for work. Worked all day, but Fay left a bit early so I had the last two hours to myself. (SUCH a relief.) Met Louie at 8:30 to take the train into Queens to meet Angelica (and Leo, we found out later) at Continental.
Of course, by that time I was starving, so we ate at Wendy's, met Leo, then went over to the pool hall on Austin Street. Uh, what is it called now? It used to be Star Billiards (I liked the name); I think now it's called The Billiard Company? Not sure.
Got there at 10pm, started playing... was amazingly lots of fun! I totally realized after we started to play, exactly how much I miss playing pool! Angelica and I used to go about once every two weeks for a good while, and it's so much fun. Just the two of us, as well as with a larger group. Leo's a fun guy, fun to hang out with. It's weird, hanging out with him now that we don't go to the same school anymore, don't even see or talk to each other with any sort of regularity.
Well, there's only so much I can describe about the evening: we played pool for 3 hours, we drank (I had a midori/stolichnaya martini - 21% + 40% alcohol, gets me every time! =D, Angelica had an appletini and a cosmo, Leo eventually asked me to order what I was having for him, LOL, Louie did not have anything but a few sips of our drinks 'cause she's just 18.), we went to a diner afterwards to get a bit of food.
Leo has a really low tolerance for alcohol (although he professes to drink much, so it was amusing to imagine him acting like that often -- boy, he was a funny tipsy man). Angelica was also pretty buzzed: giggling and falling all over the place (ie, leaning on people/things, bending over a lot, etc.). She leaned on me a lot, and it's probably the same as I did to her when I was (more) buzzed (at the Bowery), but I think that this time I wasn't buzzed enough to not care/find it funny, but at the same time just enough to be annoyed because the alcohol enhanced my natural reaction (general mild aversion to being touched, which sounds much worse written out that way). I didn't realize it at the time, of course. But later figured it out with a sort of "huh, so that's what was going on" realization. So, Angelica, sorry, didn't mean it (if you even noticed), if I hadn't been in that in-between state, it wouldn't have bothered me so much.
Since we got there at 10pm, we stopped playing at 1am and went around the block to a 24-hour diner to have a bit to eat. At about 1:50, we started getting ready to leave and as we stepped out the door at 1:55am, and I caught sight of the bus I needed to take home across the street, I remembered that the last bus is at 2am. "Oh shit," pretty much summed it up. I ran across Queens Boulevard (also known as the Boulevard of Death; good thing it was our light) to catch it and Louie sort of ran the best she could with her boots on behind me. Luckily, the bus driver didn't leave for another 3 minutes, so we got on the bus, but I just about ignored Leo and Angelica in my determination to catch that last bus (or I'd actually have had to pay for a cab). And I had just been thinking about my concern for Leo in getting home since he insisted on walking to his house (which is about 5-7 blocks away from where we were).
Well, the bus took us over to a stop about 1/2 mile away from my house (we'd have had to take another bus to get any closer, which isn't really worth it for the 10-minute walk), so we got home around 2:30. Of course, we stayed up until about 3:30am, after which we both utterly crashed.
But what a fun night. I so want to do it again! I really miss playing pool with friends. But I think I'll probably hold off on the drinking until we're almost finished with the game because if I drink too soon and the buzz wears off before we're gone, I get all serious about playing again, while everyone else is fucking falling all over the place and hitting the 10-ball directly, not realizing that it isn't the cue ball.
Yeah. So, pictures:

leo shooting
our martinis, getting me in the pic was an "accident" according to angelica
the couches (new since last time we were there) are red pool tables with red pillows - great, aren't they?
that new shirt i mentioned... okay, louie or leo must have racked 'cause the 8-ball is in the wrong spot - amateurs!
i think this is the one pic of angelica taken all night, but it's a cute one
who the hell racked? again in the wrong spot!
at the diner after pool
Oh, and just as a pointless side note (I've started cursing again a lot lately, I'm going to have to pay more attention to restraining my language a little) or two (I think the icon of Atsushi can totally be used to match my drink-induced entries, he looks a bit drink-induced himself).
