I recently got into a mood to listen to Buck-Tick's latest album, Kyoukuto, I LOVE YOU. And it isn't as bad as I thought! Granted, when I got it, I only listened to it in the background, so I didn't really hear it. But a few days ago, I actually listened to it, and I really like at least 3 of the tracks on the album. Some of the other ones are not that great, but most are fine.

I even started transliterating some of one of the tracks. I believe it was track 8, called Long Distance Call -- it's so きれい! B-T songs always have so many kanji in them, it takes forever for me to look them up in my kanji dictionary -- especially 'cause I don't recognize most of them! But it's still a lot of fun to do. And if I really transliterate as much as I can, as often as I can, I will probably start to recognize some kanji off the top of my head. It's the same way I learned to memorize hiragana and katakana; I printed out a table of kana, and read some manga with the table in hand as a reference when I couldn't remember what the kana said. When I first started I could only recognize a pitiful few, but it only took a few weeks, I think, to really remember all of it. Maybe once I start getting more familiar with kanji, I might try my hand at actual translation.

At least now, with the kanji dictionary, I can transliterate lyrics with confidence. Previously (mostly for my own reference), if I couldn't find the romaji lyrics online, I'd transliterate lyrics for myself, but most of the kanji parts were transliterated by ear. Total guesswork.

Well. Have to go clean ear & stuff.

Kyoukuto is a lot softer than a lot of their previous work, deshou? I thought it so. ^^;
It took a while to really grow on me. *grin* I agree with you on Long Distance Call, though. To~te~mo kirei da naaaaa....*heartheart*

Incidentally, it sounds like you learned your kana the same way I did, muddling through on your own. I've found that I remember a lot more of the stuff that I learned in that way than I do the kanji and such that I learned in the classes I took. Ganbatte~! If you have any major inquiries and want to do so, feel free to throw me an LJ comment or something like that. ^v^ I can try to be useful...^^;; Though I'm very bad at email (perhaps you noticed? *;_;*)

*cough* This is really mostly a 'Hi! How's It Going?' sort of comment. Silly, maybe, but what the hell. ^^v
