Two and a half hours of sleep is not enough.

I meant to go to sleep at 12:30. I did! Really, I did. But, well, I was reading Kushiel's Chosen and I just couldn't stop. Apparently, I am unable to read any of Jacqueline Carey's books in more than one sitting. I had read Kushiel's Dart that way, also. It was a Sunday and it was completely dead at the store, and I wasn't going to school the next day, so I read at work, practically non-stop, and continued on (I probably read while I ate dinner) until 5:15 am Monday morning! And I seriously doubt if I would have stopped even if I was going to classes the next day.

So last night, I was reading. Angelica called at 11:30, which surprised me 'cause she usually doesn't call to talk that late. And I told her that I was going to go to sleep after I read a little more. And I really meant to. But it just didn't work out that way. I ended up not being able to stop reading, and so I finished the book at 4am! But, I have to say, it was definitely worth it. It wasn't as good as the first one, but it certainly was entertaining. And there are way too many unanswered questions, and unfiinished business, for there not to be a third book.

Let's see… if the first book came out in hardcover in June 2001, and the paperback version in March 2002, and the second hardcover came out in April 2002, then the paperback version of that should be out in January 2003 and the next hardcover should be out in February 2003. Hopefully both the author and the publisher will stick to this schedule. I'm not exactly dying to read the next book, it isn't that amazing. But I am looking forward to the next one with eager anticipation.

Kushiel's Dart and Kushiel's Chosen by Jacqueline Carey... let's see. It takes place in a sort of alternate universe (you can identify several countries/cultures: France, Italy, Spain, Irish/Scots, India, Jews, etc., the time period is vaguely renaissance-ish. The backstory is that one of the Angels (Elua) and a few of his companions rebelled and "fell" to the earth (didn't become the Devil though) and basically procreated with humans, creating a line of humanity with the blood of angels in their veins, called the D'Angeline. The main character, Phedre, is a D'Angeline. You really need to know the background information to understand everything, but the other interesting part is that Phedre is also an "anguisette" -- the victim of Kushiel's Dart (Kushiel is one of Elua's companions & God's Punisher) -- which means she can withstand, and even takes pleasure in pain. Despite the impression, the books aren't very explicit. Rather, the main focus of the story is political intrigue and an enemy to match all of Phedre's wit and skills. And guess what? I *love* sci-fi and fantasy! Tolkien is my fave. I'm thinking of writing a AragorbxLegolas yaoi. Mercedes Lackey is great, too. Anyone else you can recommend?

Yes, I can definitely recommend some of my favorites. DAVID WEBER! I used to say that Mercedes Lackey was my favorite in the whole sci-fi/fantasy genre, but when I started reading his books, I had to separate them into Lackey for fantasy and Weber for sci-fi. His writing is amazing -- there's a lot of technical stuff to satisfy, but the emphasis is on the story and certainly the characters, which I generally find lacking in many sci-fi books. He has a few fantasy books (which I haven't read), and a few sci-fi trilogies. But his biggest (and best) series is quite long (I think it's up to book 8 or 9 right now), called the Honor Harrington series. She's the main character, a captain in Fleet. The monarchy of Manticore (the "good guys") is on the brink of war with the People's Republic (the "bad guys"). Honor is amazing! I highly recommend it! The first book is called On Basilisk Station and it will really hook you!

Other than Weber, my faves are: Laurell K. Hamilton's "Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter" series and her new Fey series (both fantasy). Sharon Green's "The Blending" and "The Blending Enthroned" series (also fantasy), John Ringo's sci-fi series (he's new, he only has one, well two, with the books he's co-writing with David Weber), Elizabeth Moon's "The Deed of Paksenarrion" trilogy (fantasy, it's AMAZING), and her sci-fi series about Heris Serrano (first 3 books), then Esmay Suiza (next 3 or 4 books) are pretty good, too.

I talk a lot in my LJ about what I'm currently reading, so I'm sure if you just glance at your friends list from time to time you'll see. LOL. =D

I hope you'll take this list with you to the library/bookstore and check some of them out. Let me know what you find interesting!

I really like the Elf Quest Series a lot. And there is a book my friend Cat has called Everyday Magic. I forget who the author is. Gomen. I'll double check this weekend. There are others that I'm not thinking of right now, because I just woke up, and my brain's not working right. I'll get get back to you on them, though, okay? And, if you ever wanna talk book or seiyuu or anything, you can IM me, if you want to. (if you don't, I understand, though)
