Rape Culture 101
I normally don't post this kind of downer, but I'm affected by it and I want to. Please feel free to skip by.
There are so many lines and paragraphs to quote from this article, which is a response to readers asking for a definition/description of what the term Rape Culture really means. But I think sometimes the part that's the most difficult is the dismissive/defensive stance most people have (including myself!!) toward the issue of "sensitivity". (Or maybe I'm just projecting what's most difficult for me.)
I'm myself guilty of being brought up in, participating in, perpetuating rape culture -- it's hard not to. In some ways, I don't think I can stop, IDK, but I try.
PLEASE BE MORE AWARE, AND LESS DISMISSIVE.

From the very end:
Rape culture is people objecting to the detritus of the rape culture being called oversensitive, rather than people who perpetuate the rape culture being regarded as not sensitive enough.
Rape culture is the myriad ways in which rape is tacitly and overtly abetted and encouraged having saturated every corner of our culture so thoroughly that people can't easily wrap their heads around what the rape culture actually is.
I'm myself guilty of being brought up in, participating in, perpetuating rape culture -- it's hard not to. In some ways, I don't think I can stop, IDK, but I try.
PLEASE BE MORE AWARE, AND LESS DISMISSIVE.
