You know those stories where they circle around each other -- maybe even for years -- letting the tension, the connection, go unacknowledged even though they both know it's there? Maybe not wanting to chance giving up their secrets, changing the dynamic, ruining it? And then there are things-- you know, plotty things, case-type things going on in the background? Not really enough to make it a casefic or a genfic, but just enough to make it all feel so very real? Well, these have done that so very, very well. You should really check them out.

1. renay's To Acheive the Impossible Dream [Inception, Arthur/Eames]. Slow, steady, deliberate, full of secrets. Inevitable. It's hard to describe why and how much I love this fic. <3
   
   
2. witling's The Third Time (Part 1, Part 2) [Inception, Arthur/Eames]. Arthur's a bit oblivious in this one-- more about himself than anyone else, I think.
   
   
3. five_ht's This Could Be Our Reward [Inception, Arthur/Eames]. A bit more lighthearted, less epic, but again with the secrets. Sometimes the lies we tell reveal more than the truth.

Oh yeah, and then there's the angst: lies, secrets, self-delusion. The stuff that doesn't necessarily come with a happy ending. Oh, the secret suffering; it hurts so good.

1. tequilideas's The Fabulist [Inception, Arthur/Eames]. Eames lies to himself just as well as he lies to Arthur.
   
   
2. downwardlinear's Parent of Disillusion [Inception, Arthur/Eames]. It's not what it looks like from the outside.

They're made by using

Sorry for the comment spam! But yes, I'm really looking forward to the sequel of Parent of Disillusion, but at the same time I really enjoyed the non-happy ending and a teeny sliver of me wants the sequel to never be written. The Fabulist was really fucking amazing. Just, kind of gut-wrenching because I kept hoping and hoping that they'd sort it all out, but it's just so much more realistic the way it ended.

GOD I LOVE ANGST MUCH MORE THAN I SHOULD.
