The Dresden Files was pretty darn bad.

There were things that were very different from the series, and I could understand why they might have changed those things. But there was also the fact that the story sucked. Predictable, formulaic, stupid, boring. And, oh yes, BAD ACTING. I'll give it another chance or two, but if it doesn't get better I'll have to drop it. I don't have the patience for bad TV.

My biggest problem? They killed Bob. How they killed him. Oh, Bob. Your distinctly unique personality, your charm and wit -- you were not meant to be Dresden's moral conscience.

I wonder how jimbutcher feels about it.

I watched that last night myself and was left wondering if I somehow missed a few episodes beforehand. They don't explain the council or much about Bob, who seems pretty damn awesome in the snarky/I'll only help you because it may amuse me later sort of way... that and he's this all powerful guy and his name is bob XD

What am I missing?

I'm not sure where they're going to go with the overall background story, so I'm not sure what you might be missing within the TV series. In the book series, on the other hand, they did accurately cover his father's role (although they really put much more into it than is actually in the books), as well as his Uncle's dark influence. But the whole implication that his Uncle is actually alive came out of left field.

Bob's cool, and he's pretty darn powerful in that knowledge-is-power way, but they really ruined his unique character. He's supposed to be a spirit/ball of light in that skull. He's obsessed with sex and women; Dresden often bribes him into doing errands with the promise of buying him new romance novels, or letting him out about town for a night to spy on women taking showers, etc. He's a slightly cynical, know-it-all wiseguy -- NOT someone who's going to actually waste more than a sentence *convincing* Dresden to go back after the kid to make sure that he's isn't just seeing things. In fact, Dresden wouldn't have need to be *convinced* in the first place!

*growls in frustration*

That's another thing! Dresden isn't far off from his book personality, but there are little things that serve to make him "cooler", smoother than he really should be. He's supposed to be a boyish bumbling, slightly awkward and apologetic guy. So cute! Instead, he's kind, but suave. =/ And they took away his patchwork VW Bug and gave him a JEEP! T_T

Rant away :D its informative! I wanted to like the series but the books sound way better, hopefully they'll get a hang of things as it progresses and I'll keep an eye on it.

BTW, cingular phone user :D Go DL this game 'darkest fear' its Silent Hill on your phone XD You're a guy in a haunted hospital looking for missing daughter who was a patient there, can't go into the dark else you'll be killed by monsters, need to turn on all lights n open all windows to illuminate blood stained rooms and try to save patients as you go :D ITS FUN!

I was so, so disappointed in Bob. Not only how they butchered (har) his personality, but what's with this manifesting-as-grey-haired-dude thing about? I was all psyched about seeing Bob roll his eyelights and possess Mister.

I mean, c'mon. Old dude.
