As good as I sometimes think I am with words, there's so much more that I hold back, hold in, that never falls on anyone's ears, whether they be listening ones or not. And normally -- in the way that I have of making it easier to talk about an issue by talking about something (somewhat loosely) related -- I'd babble about how amazing it is that we have computers and internets and "newfangled" contraptions that most of us couldn't even imagine utilizing 15 years ago. Things like Google Translate. So that we're able to read the affecting and meaningful words of Swedish bloggers.

So yes, I'm among the ones (all of fandom?) panicking over Yahoo's decision to shut down delicious.com. WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY THINKING?! Luckily(?), since I'd been out of fandom (almost any fandom, really) for years and years until relatively recently, I don't actually have that many bookmarks. I haven't been using delicious to its full capacity, but I know how very much delicious is the backbone of fandom -- memes and newsletters (not to mention, us fangirls) depend on it -- so I know how horrible this is going to be on the fandom level.

On a personal level, I've got less than 400 links bookmarked, so I can easily save them elsewhere and transfer them whenever I've found a new bookmarking home, but from [livejournal.com profile] bookshop's helpful post of brainstorming for alternatives, it (unfortunately) seems like none have the social utility that delicious does (seeing how many people have saved a link, for example, which is a nice reccing system that I never got around to taking advantage of).

WHAT WILL FANDOM DOOOOOOOOOO?!! T_T

ETA: Looks like mahalo.com is interested in taking over/maintaining delicious! (source) OMG PLEASE LET THIS ACTUALLY HAPPEN!

ETA2: Update on the Delicious front! Looks like good news in general, and as an alternative several options are cropping up because some people panic and flail and some people get motivated to work out something better. (source 2)

So actually now my question is -- my Delicious login is my Yahoo! login -- what's going to happen now? I hope it'll be rolled over or something, but in case it isn't I think I should probably export my existing bookmarks. I'm fine with it, as long as I can (eventually) come back to Delicious and (hopefully) with my old login. =/

I tried to rip the audio from a few youtube videos today. One worked, the other three didn't. Any idea why?

I was using vixy.net, if that helps?

[Update: Tried listentoyoutube.net vidtomp3.com. The ads are a pain, but it works.]

Have to give credit to this excellent phishing email. None of the grammar is incorrect, though it still doesn't have the right flow... and yeah, English may be a germanic language, but we don't Capitalize Every Other Word Here.

So that was a let-down. Rangers lost 3-1. Buffalo's defense was tight (and also sweet?) and impenetrable. Not only did they NOT win for a 6-0-0 record, they also finally allowed two power play goals -- the first they've allowed this season. Sigh.

To make up for it, I'm just going to focus on the fact that at one point they drew a penis on the screen. If I had a screencap, I'd post it. I thought it was pretty funny. >_<;

In other news... my laptop contracted a virus, which was really fucking annoying. I did system restore and installed McAfee and ran a virus scan. It didn't find anything, and I'm hoping the comp's clear. But IE has been really slow since then (Judy suggested it's because virus programs use up a lot of memory), but I wonder if IE is just corrupt somehow -- Firefox seems to run fine, and because I'm not a huge fan of Firefox, I downloaded Google Chrome to test it out, and that seems to work fine (and speedily) as well -- and Chrome uses like twice the memory of Firefox!

So, anyone have any suggestions regarding the virus or IE? And what are your thoughts/recommendations regarding Chrome?

Exerpts:

--- It was the perfect internet anarchist protest. We shouted slogans. People with ghetto blasters played announcements. We shouted at THEM. People with megaphones addressed the crowd. Sometimes we cheered and clapped, sometimes we shouted "TL;DR!"

--- We were busy heckling him (anonymous has no problem with criticising anonymous), when he reaches the end of his speech and presses play on a boombox. ... RICK ASTLEY: NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP ... The crowd went fucking wild.

--- There were numerous demands for "CAKE!" - Shortly followed by much more enthusiastic cries of "THE CAKE IS A LIE!" ... Then someone came round with cakes, prompting happy exclamations that "THE CAKE IS REAL!"

--- A friend had a banner with "SCIENTOLOGY MAKES ME A SAD PANDA!" which the media snapped a lot, we chanted it for a bit, then started demanding to know why Xenu/Tom Cruise/Scientology hated pandas.

--- LONGCAT IS LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG!

--- the looks on the faces of the scientologists when faced with a crowd in which a lone voice shouts:
"I HEAR TOM CRUISE HATES MUDKIPS!"
(all) "NOOOOOOOOOOO!"

--- How do you, ideologically speaking, defeat a crowd that is enthusiastically demanding that you "DO A BARREL ROLL! DO A BARREL ROLL!!"?

--- when someone grabbed a loud-hailer and shouted something a bit offensive, they were booed down with shouts of "FAIL!" and for every moment of vague menace, there was something hilarious.
