gluttons for emotional punishment
Jul. 15th, 2008 12:35 pmGrave of the Fireflies has been remade into a live-action film. It was released July 5th in Japan and will may be shown at the New York-Tokyo Film Grand Prix in September.
This is probably the only movie (or book, or story of any kind, for that matter) that I've ever said I'm not sure I could put myself through watching again -- because of the sadness of it. If you know me, you know I love depressing stories, sad endings, angst and pain and unresolved open-endings. But this movie really caught hold of my heartstrings and dug itself in deep. I so rarely get emotionally involved in visual media format, but this was one movie in which I could not keep a mental distance.
But anyway, here I am now, saying I want to see it again, just because it's in a slightly different format. Well, I'd really like to see how that changes things. And, oddly enough, whether it makes me more or less able to connect with the characters.
