The massive swirly goodness.
Sep. 17th, 2004 11:34 amOkay, I know that I haven't updated in forever. But life's been hectic and well. Lotsa stuff going on and all that. Yeah, yeah; you've heard the excuses before. But I'm here now... isn't that all that matters? So, a brief update on things that have happened since last I updated, in no particular order:
1. May. I got my driver's license! On the 18th I took, and passed, the infamous scary-ass Road Test from Hell. I sweated and feared that I was going to mess up on the parallel parking 'cause I was only doing about 50/50 at that point, but I parked perfectly on the test, which was good. So I got my license and have since been driving everyone around everywhere. With some interesting little adventures during the time that Nicky was here and when my parents were gone for 2 weeks in Europe. ^_~
2. June. Nicky came over from Sacramento, CA to visit for 6 days! What a hectic and fun-filled 6 days those were. My mom was, coincidentally, getting ready to leave for France a few days after Nicky came, so she stayed over at Angelica's grandmother's house that night while my mom (who is a wreck when it comes to packing) had the freedom to tear her hair out and run around the house like a chicken with her head cut off while not having to worry that Nicky would see her in such a bad state. Nicky, Angelica, and I (and sometimes Maryann and Louie) drove all over, did a bit of shopping, site-seeing, among other things. Nicky and I went to a club in the East Village one night after visiting the guys in Staten Island. Maryann had stayed in S.I. and got to Queens at around 7:45 in the morning(!), so I had to go pick her up from the train station, which was pretty amusing. None of us had much sleep that night/day. It was just so amazing having Nicky here in NYC, it was just like she'd been living here and hanging out with us forever. (Now she's planning on moving out here within the next few years!!!)
3. July. Parents were away for 2 weeks in the beginning of July, so it was me and Liz all by ourselves, which was so great! I went to work a lot, but on one weekend we went to Jones Beach with Jeannette and her daughter Stephanie. Which was really cool, I haven't been to the beach in so long. Liz got horribly burned, though, and she was in pain for a few days thereafter (as in not leaving the house, going around pretty much topless), but she got a nice tan out of it; I got a nice mild tan that intensified a bit because the next Saturday we went back with Angelica this time (who also burned, but didn't tan). It was also at this time (only 3 weeks before Otakon) that I started doing the FFX-2 Animal Trainer outfits for me, Liz, and Angelica. Which was why I was *completely* incommunicado. I practically did nothing else but sew, sew, and uh... sew. So. At the end of the month we would be going to Baltimore for the big con of the year. (But first, I took a day break from the sewing to go to the Evanescence concert for which Angelica won tickets from K-Rock. Opening for them was Breaking Benjamin, who were great, Three Days Grace, whom I *love*, and Seether, who were good too.)
4. August. Of course, I still had a few details to add to the costumes, which I did on the bus, and in the room on Thursday night into Friday morning. Liz made the last stitches at 4:30am that morning (I'd been unable to go any further at around 3:30) on our (finally!) completed costumes. ::groan:: Yes, I swear, I will start *earlier* this year. Really I will! But I thought they looked really good. Unfortunately, there were 2 or 3 other Trainer groups, but what can I say? One of the groups' corset tops looked better/more accurate, but I think our skirts were the best ones. ^_~ And we were the only one with a Paine, and the only one with all 3 of our animals. So I think we were a good success. (I will try to post my update about Otakon in a different post.)
5. September. After Otakon, Maryann started coming over on Friday nights to watch anime, so we've been doing that for the past 4 weeks or so. It's been a load of fun, we've seen Initial D First Stage, half of Pretear (to be completed later tonight), Zetsuai 1989 and Bronze, and the Buck-Tick at the night side DVD. That last I saw with Angelica first at her house -- it's so great; the best of B-T's concert tour videos, it's not just a regular concert tour video, it's a compilation of clips from several different venues during their Mona Lisa Overdrive tour. They all look great, sound great, oooh, it's just awesome to watch.
Which brings us up to date. There's a Chevelle show at the Bowery Ballroom on Monday and when I found out about it I wanted to go get tickets, but it was already sold out. K-Rock has online sweepstakes for which you can "buy" raffle tickets (using accumulated points). I "bought" over 60 raffle tickets, but didn't really expect anything 'cause I figured others would do the same. But I don't know whether I was out-"bought" or if I just happened to be the lucky one to have my ticket picked out, but I won those tickets!!!! Ya-hahahahahahahaha! So now I can go, and Liz is coming 'cause they said it's a 16+ show, which I'm very thankful about.
So yesterday, I had already planned (even before we found out about the Chevelle tickets) to take Liz and Maryann to the DMV near me to take their permit tests. And then with the Chevelle show, it would've been useful for Liz to have the temporary permit to show as proof of age, but we couldn't find her original birth certificate, only a photocopy, which was apparently unacceptable. So we were trying to figure out how to get an original to bring to the DMV for her to get her permit before Monday so that she could go to the concert, otherwise she wouldn't be able to go! (I mean, we were figuring out how to get a letter by my mom notarized so that Liz could go get an original, then rush over to the Manhattan DMV to take her permit test, all today because the damn DMV isn't open on the weekends.) But then Maryann said, "Why don't you just take the photocopy of the birth certificate and your school photo ID as proof of age?" And we were like, O_O "OH YEAH!" So we're going to do that.
Oh, and Maryann got her permit!!! And her sister said she'd teach her to drive (she's 22 with a car), so I'm going to really look forward to when Maryann can drive well enough that I don't have to be the designated driver all the time!!! Yeah!
6. October. I'll be going to The Killers concert at Irving Plaza, with Maryann, Liz, and Raquel on the 4th. Then Alex will be coming down to NYC on the weekend of the 8th (Friday through Sunday) to do a Suikoden cosplay photo shoot on Friday. (Which, incidentally, Chris will be going to on Sunday.) And then!!! OMG! Yaoicon is over Halloween weekend in San Francisco (we'll be there Thursday the 28th to Monday the 1st). And there's a Warp 11 concert in Davis (2 hours away from SF) that Nicky's driving us to (OMG, I can't *wait* to see them!!!) and I got Maryann to go to SF with us so she'll be coming too! (Wow, I realized that I have a lot on my plate this year.) Oh, but I'm so looking forward to seeing Nicky again (I miss her a lot) and being in SF with Maryann and Louie and Angelica, and seeing Warp 11!!!
