Yesterday (well, Monday) the Rangers actually won against Carolina! And it was actually a good game; I was so impressed! I started watching in the middle of the second, where they were losing 1-0, and apparently Messier had gotten hurt in the first period and was sitting out the rest of the game… but they were actually playing so passionately, and so well! It was a fun game to watch. They tied it up with about 5 minutes left in the second… and due to a double-minor penalty on Carolina, the Rangers had 3 power play minutes in the beginning of the third. During which, Lindros actually scored their first power play goal in 18 games – which is just as long as Lindros had gone without scoring. The rest of the third was just a really nice game. There was a lot of movement around the ice; one of the Rangers’ most recurring problems is in not being able to get out of their own zone, but this time they had some good time in the offensive zone.

So, since I was flush with the Rangers’ 3-1 victory, I wore my Leetch jersey in honor. ^_~

I went to work, as usual today, to open up the store. At one point, while I was helping a customer, a woman came into the store – I recognized her from Sunday – and asked me if I was the one who’d helped her on Sunday, and had returned her wallet to her when she left it in the store. (There’s a smallish fair going on inside Grand Central right now, and so when I saw that she’d left her wallet, I remembered her saying that she was going over to the fair… so I just went over to the fair to see if I could find her. She was really thankful when I found her and returned her wallet.) So I said yes, I was. And to my surprise, she said she had some money for me, for returning her wallet... and something about how nice it is that there are honest people nowadays, etc., etc. She gave me a $10. I thought it was really nice of her to do that, actually… I hadn’t even expected a “reward” or anything like that. Especially for just returning her wallet to her when she’d only left it behind a few minutes earlier… I mean, I figured if I hadn’t found her, she’d eventually retrace her steps and come back to the store. But it was really nice of her anyway, especially because I had to buy a 7-day Metrocard this morning ($17) and I am massively running low on money this month.

That said, I went and splurged on part of Angelica’s gift for Christmas. Go figure. I just can’t hold onto my money lately. I met Angelica at Hunter when she was done with classes, and we decided to go over to the village (where we get our ears pierced) to see if I could find a cheap black bead (I had forgotten the one I have at home), and to have a piercer switch the ball in my middle piercing on my left ear (the one that was giving me so much trouble). So, we were standing outside one of the piercing shops (this one has a TV set up in the window with a video of some of the piercings that have been done in that particular studio, running on a loop) watching the video… and one of the other piercing shops had some cool music playing. And Angelica wanted to find out what it was, so she went in while I stayed watching the video… when she came out she said that they have beads for $3, and that they don’t charge to put them in for you (unlike Dragon Fly… although that depends on who’s at the register at any particular time). So I went in and got a shiny black bead, which they changed for me – and where I saw that it isn’t a fixed-bead ring; just that the ring was closed pretty securely with earring pliers. (I’m going to have to purchase a pair sometime soon.)

So after I got my bead changed, we were standing outside again and Liz called, saying that she wanted to hang out and didn’t want to go home. So we told her to meet us at the village, outside the piercing places. So Angelica and I just stood on the street, watching the piercing video and talking, for about half-an-hour. Angelica had already been itching to get a piercing, and of course, the “long” wait made it even worse. So by the time Liz finally showed up, we’d already come to the close of our negotiations. Those being that she’d get her right earlobe pierced (in front of her at-the-time-first-hole, because when they pierced it when she was a baby, it was with plenty of room to spare); I’d pay $20 (‘cause that’s all that I can afford right now), and she’d pay the remainder, which we assumed to be $5 plus tax (lobe piercings are usually $25).

So. We went into our usual piercing place (Crazy Fantasy). Of course, it wasn’t as simple as all that. Because she wanted to have her circular barbell (horse-shoe shaped) as her first-hole earring… so I suggested asking if they could pierce the new hole with that and put the earring she would’ve gotten into what would become the second hole. But when we asked the guys who worked there, they said… it’s $15 for a self-provided-jewelry piercing, plus $20 for the green titanium 14ga CBR she chose as her other earring. She paused, and basically babbled something about $25 until the guy said, “Okay, we’ll do everything for $25.” And she said okay and jumped into the piercing chair. Well, okay, first she signed the consent form and snapped at me to pay… ($27.06 with my credit card ‘cause I didn’t have any cash with me). She later gave me the $7.06. ::snicker::

So this is what her right ear now looks like. It’s so adorable! I really love the green titanium CBR, and I really love the circular barbell as the first earring!

After getting her ear pierced, we took the train back to Queens, and went to the mall to have dinner. We wasted lots of time there, talking and laughing and getting giddy. Okay, so it was mostly me getting giddy. After which we all went over to her house and spent another few hours talking and laughing and being giddy, and playing cards (rummy, poker, bloody knuckles, and uno). On the way from the bus to her apartment building, we were all bumping into each other and stuff and something happened where I rammed the side of my head into the zipper on Liz’s jacket… or something… and my left ear throbbed with the pain, mostly right around the middle earring – the one that I changed the bead on earlier – and, coincidentally, the one that has consistently given me trouble since I got it pierced. After a few more seconds of throbbing pain, it got all warm (not necessarily a good sign). But I didn’t notice until I went to the bathroom at Angelica’s apartment that it had bled a little. Oooh, bad. Taking a closer look, I decided it looked like the earring had torn the hole a bit. I wonder if a 14ga earring will fit there now… but I guess I’m too chicken (or too sane?) to find out.

So, here’s the pic of my still-slightly-scabby/sore-looking ear… but notice the new black bead! ^_~ I got what I wanted all right! Oh, and some good news: the 16ga CBR in my right ear's first hole has now gotten much easier to turn. In fact, after that first day, it's like it's been there for years. I'm so happy with the niobium rings... and it's really funny to touch them 'cause the fact that they're matte and not shiny, means that they have a bit of a rough texture to them that shiny/stainless steel CBRs don't have. And, as Angelica said, I wouldn't want to stretch my holes to larger sized gauges with them 'cause they'd be rough -- but they're really nice to wear aside from stretching.
