Yesterday I hung out with Angelica and several things happened: I spent more money I don't have. I really would have resisted, except I spent it on things that are definitely worthy of being extra-broke.

We went to Book Off and Angelica found a copy of Ozaki Minami's Akuratsu (which I'm pretty sure Awa got from shipped from Japan for at least $60, probably closer to $100... I think) for $20! There's no way I could have left that there for someone else to snatch up!

It was my father's birthday yesterday (he turned 61) and with all the stuff that's been going on lately (a 3-week hospital stay, more weeks at home, an antibiotic that gave him spiking fevers up to 104 degrees, then switch to another anitbiotic...) we completely forgot about doing something for his birthday. Actually, we don't usually do anything big 'cause he despises it, and he always hates whatever it is you give him as a present, so over the years, we've ended up giving him just cards and money, or something like that. At least, me and my sister. My mom's gotten other things, pricier, like watches, etc. But this year I thought it would be really bad to not do something, especially because of all the bad stuff that's happened.

Just before I left for school yesterday I wished him a happy birthday. He acted sort of surprised... I think he might've forgotten, himself. Anyway, when I was talking with Angelica she mentioned getting a shirt for Joe's birthday (last week) at Burlington Coat Factory. A light bulb went off above my head. So we headed over there and I ended up getting a shirt and two knit sweaters for him from all three of us (me, my mom, my sister). He liked them. He has good taste in clothes. It usually coincides with mine and my sister's, and then we steal clothes from him. ^_~

So I dropped another $60 (good buys, though!) there.

But before this all happened... I don't remember how it came up, but all of a sudden Angelica was offering to buy me my Industrial piercing as an early Hanukkah/Christmas/New Years/Atheist Day gift. (Yes, that last is one of my own inventions.) Originally, I wanted to get two CBRs (easier to heal and probably less painful?), but the barbell is cheaper so I'd have had to get that. But I didn't want to get it done without Liz there 'cause she wanted to go with us. But she had lotsa homework and other stuff to do, so we postponed it for one day.

Today.

After school (Liz had a half day!) we all met up and went over to the Village (Crazy Fantasy) and had the Foo-Fighters'-band-leader-look-alike pierce my ear. Finally! (I still can't believe I finally got it done... so weird. I've been wanting it for a long time, but was sort of straddling the fence about it.) I wanted to get some photos of the process to submit to BMEzine for a subscription, but I totally forgot. Maybe I can just submit the after-shots just as well? I'll have to go look it up.

But in the mean time, here is now a picture of the 14-gauge Industrial in my newly-pierced right ear!

The actual piercings hurt just the same as any of my other ones; which is to say, not that much. But the fact that the ear was pierced in two spots so close to each other, at almost the same time, made it hurt more overall than usual. Not to mention that the ball closest to my head is pressing against my head and so every time I eat, or make weird facial expressions, it makes my temples move, and so makes the barbell move in my ear. But it's no where near unbearable. In fact, most of the time I don't notice it -- especially when I have something to do to distract myself.

I always approach cleaning a new piercing for the first time with great trepidation. I don't know why either, it's hardly that bad. But I did it, and as I plan to keep it as clean as possible -- and actually use the correct stuff to keep it clean -- I'm hoping it won't get too sore/swollen/infected, etc. 'cause I'm not looking forward to dealing with all of that with a barbell!

Yikes! That looks mighty painful. Of course, I'm a total wuss when it comes to piercings. I'll have to get a closer look at it when I see you in 2 weeks!

get together with on a random weekend at Mitsuwa

Oh, that would be a fun thing to do! I wonder if maybe we could get Sparcck to show up too? Or anyone else we know in the NYC/NJ area. We'll have to try to do that sometime!

remind us to tell you about the G-boys & the Weiß boys' past lives....

Ohhhh, sounds like this could be very fun... I'm really hoping we'll have time to hang out with you on Friday at the con. Maybe we can get a big group of people together to go out for breakfast or something. *wink*
