osarabaI do still want the evil-ish faerie on my right shoulder blade, but since I haven't gotten a good drawing of it that I want to use yet, I've resigned myself to wait on that one for a while.
But for this one, I have a feeling my mom is going to go through that whole thing again… "Uch, on your back? And it's going to say what? Don't you want something a little less… dark?" Actually, no, I happen to like the dark. Not that she'll stop me, she'll even be happy with it after it's done, but before… she's a bit iffy.
I've decided on a double-border star with the outside border in black and the inner border in a bright blue (with no space between borders). The uppermost point of the star should rest at the top of the spine/below the neck. The star won't be filled in, but in the center it will have kanji that say eimin, which translates as "eternal sleep; death".
Below that, there will be a bit of space, and then in kanji: Shinigami ni toritsukareru. Which means "To be in the grip of Death," where "Death" is the God of Death, and the literal translation of toritsukareru is "to become obsessed with." So there is a connotation of obsession. (Obsession wa yay! Why do you think I love Nanjo Koji so much?) And the fact that the verb is in the "infinitive" (eh, I don't know what it's called in Japanese grammar) means that the action is present and forever ongoing. Thus, I will be obsessed with Death forever and ever and ever! Obsession wa yay!
Of course, I have to wait until September to get the tat, for several reasons: (1) I have to have Angelica's Japanese teacher - Kawashima-sensei - write out the kanji for me. (2) I want to wait until after most of the cons, so the healing tat doesn't get in the way of having fun at the cons. And I'd need to get it done in early/mid September so that it has a chance to heal before Yaoi-con in mid-October.
I emailed Chris (whom I have now officially dubbed "my tattooist") and asked him for an estimate. We'll see how much it is… then at least I'll have a few months to prepare to break my wallet.
