The (fannish) things I've done with my (unexpected) free time.

So I was trying to get to sleep EARLY (midnight) since I had to wake up at the CRACK OF DAWN (7:30am) in order to meet Juliet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art at 8:45. They open at 9:30 and really, it's a good thing we got there when we did because by the time the line started moving it stretched down the block and doubled back a few times. Haha, if I felt left out and missing Otakon this past weekend, this line certainly made me feel like I was there for a little while.

Anyway, I was trying to get to sleep early, but really I should know better by now that I just can't. Instead I customized my screensaver and proceeded to take a few screencaps to make into a gif. (Yes, I'm we know I'm obsessed already, this is old news.)



And now for the few additional A Softer World Remixes I've done since I last posted. The last one was done for @15dozentimes; it's totally my favorite, and not it's not even one I'd ever have thought of/chosen to do myself. So yeah, pass any requests my way. These are fun and ridiculously easy to do with my somewhat limited skills. =D












This is totally random, but I somehow naturally associate Avenged Sevenfold and Panic! At the Disco. This is really interesting because I was just recently thinking I should listen to more AX7 (while listening to P!ATD).... and then I realized that I did the same back in 2006 when I first heard them both.

I know it's just a pipe dream, but-- what I'd give for P!ATD's next album to have a harder sound. *__* (Jesus fuck, Spencer Smith would be even hotter and sweatier than he already is...?!)

Ahh! I want to go see the exhibit on Saturday but now I'm really depressed. I was hoping to get there before it opens, but damn...:-\ Do you have a Met membership? Was thinking of getting one to skip the line to the exhibit but it looks like I'm up for a long wait regardless. -_-

And I need to listen to P!ATD! I know so many people who are fans. What do you recommend? :)

How long did you guys end up waiting in line for at the McQueen exhibit? My friends and I were thinking of going on Saturday, and trying to plan bus times and whatnot, so I'm wondering how long of a wait it might be. And did the line seem any shorter later on, or did it just get longer as the day went on?

I don't have a Met membership! I strongly suggest getting to the museum before it opens. Preferably by 8:30-8:45. You'll be waiting in line to get into the museum, but once you're in, paying for admission goes super quick, then run up the main stairs, go to the left and over to the balcony that overlooks where you just came in. That's where the line to the Alexander McQueen exhibit goes. Once on that line, we probably waited about another 45 minutes or so-- it was hard to keep track of time because (although I knew we were waiting a long time), I was with a close friend and it wasn't exactly a trial to just stand and chat with her, you know?

The Museum will offer extended hours during the exhibition’s final week. On Thursday and Friday, August 4 and 5, the exhibition will be open until 9:00 p.m. On its last two days—Saturday and Sunday, August 6 and 7—the exhibition will remain open until midnight. After 9:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, visitors may enter the Museum through the 81st Street entrance only.



Oooh, as for PATD recs -- give me an idea of what other music you like first? I loved their first album (A Fever You Can't Sweat Out) back when it came out in 2005, but it was sort of a guilty pleasure for me (then and now). The sound of that album is very pop-punk influenced alt-rock, but I love the unusual form/style of the lyrics and the way that the music wraps around the lyrics rather than the other way around.

The second album (Pretty. Odd.) is heavily psychedelic pop-rock influenced, sounds a LOT like The Beatles. I'm not really a huge Beatles fan, so I like 4 (out of 15!) songs. There's definitely growth, and I love hearing Ryan (lead guitar) sing because I actualfax LOVE his voice, but the style of music is just not my thing.

The third album (Vices & Virtues) is after the split -- Brendon Urie (vocals) and Spencer Smith (drums) stayed and Ryan Ross (lead guitar) and Jon Walker (bass) left to form their own (very Beatles-sounding) band. This sounds a lot more like the first album than the second, but even then not really. It's very alt-rock HEAVILY influenced by 80s new wave and pop. So, it's not exactly like everything else in the indie rock scene right now, but it leans toward it. It straddles a line of rock and 80s pop that somehow appeals to me, but I wouldn't say their music is my favorite (I mostly listen to harder/edgier stuff).

I really respect that they've always done what they wanted to do, music-wise, and that is part of what's keeping me interested in what their next album (whenever that happens) will be like. I'm not-so-secretly hoping they'll be influenced by some harder sounds, but Brendon Urie is the world's biggest pop-rock fan (Michael Jackson and Queen), so I'm not holding my breath.

WOW, I didn't mean to write so much!!! But if you're still interested I can rec fave songs or talk more about it or whatever! =D Ready To Go is from their 3rd album and is CATCHY AS HELL. It's just a really, really fun song (and video), so try that one out and let me know what you think!

I think we waited for a total of 2 hours in line. But that's probably about an hour to get into the Museum in the morning (we got there around 8:45, the museum opens at 9:30), and maybe like 45 minutes or so on the McQueen exhibit line itself. It's hard to be sure since I was with a good friend and time passes quickly when you're having fun just chatting. =D

Neither of us ate breakfast (/dumb) so as soon as we got out of the exhibit we were starving and kind of ran out for lunch, so I don't know what the line was like by then (around 12:30-ish). And we've both been to the Met a million times before so we didn't stick around other than a quick detour through the contemporary art wing to see what's changed since we were there last (more than I was expecting, actually)!

It's possible the line to get into the museum would be shorter later in the day, but since it's the last weekend of the exhibit, it might not. THE EXHIBIT IS REALLY REALLY POPULAR. AND REALLY, REALLY CROWDED. =(

Hey! Sorry, this reply is SUPER LATE but I just wanted to tell you your comment was a lot of help! I did end up going on Saturday, got there before 8:30 and we were already lined up past the Southern end of the building. 8| But the wait was definitely worth it, the exhibit was AMAZING.

Hm, in terms of the music I like, I like a lot of different kinds of music, but I'm extremely picky about what in each type. XD XD For example, I love the Stones, David Bowie, and the Velvet Underground, but I'm sort of meh oh the Beatles actually, as well as the Who. I listen to some punk, but I only love Patti Smith. I also like some indie artists like the Decemberists (but only some of their albums XD). I don't listen to a ton of pop music per se....and I don't like much of anything from the 80s. =_= I'm so picky!

Actually, I'm not sure I'd really love P!ATD just from what you've told me, but I would definitely give it a listen first before I came to any conclusions. I think I'm going to download try out the albums...probably in the order they were released. Thanks so much for the information! AGAIN, YOU ARE SO HELPFUL <3

Oh, so glad you got to see the McQueen exhibit and that my response was actually of help! =D

I totally understand being picky.... and having unpopular opinions on music. =D That Japanese band that I love so much (Buck-Tick) is another band whose... subgenre, I guess... changes from album to album and it's often difficult to rec them to people because I'm never sure which album to rec to start with or whether people will have enough patience to try out more than one. So it's cool that you're going to try them out! =D
