From the press release:
In addition, Tom Hardy has been set to play Bane. Nolan said, “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.” Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven. The Dark Knight Rises is slated for release on July 20, 2012.

Date: 2011-01-19 07:51 pm (UTC)I didn't know Bane literally broke Batman's back! My only experience of Bane was his near-mindless role as Poison Ivy's pet in one of the horrid 90s Batman movies.

Date: 2011-01-19 07:59 pm (UTC)BTW, does Bane wear that mask all the time? Or does he have an alter ego too? LOL I should know how much of T-Hard's face is actually going to be in the movie. ^_~

Date: 2011-01-19 08:39 pm (UTC)Wikipedia says Bane has been one of Batman's most intelligent and physically powerful foes so I'm hoping they actually make use of his intelligence because based on the 90s movie I wouldn't have known that at all... =/

Date: 2011-01-20 05:54 am (UTC)*bites lip* YES PLS.
I don't have high hopes for Anne Hathaway as Catwoman (Nolan's female characters are so underdeveloped) but I'm hoping to be -- at the very least -- not enraged by her and so completely enthralled by T-Hard's performance that I don't care.
*hopes*

Date: 2011-01-20 06:37 am (UTC)...And my ovaries.
I'm by no means an expert on the Batman comics so I could be completely wrong here; I don't think he has an alter-ego exactly because he was raised in a prison and didn't really have another identity, and in the comics he was mostly around only when he's fighting/being evil. However since the movie's far more likely to show Bane plotting on his own and interacting with Batman (and since Nolan is a genius who knows how very pleasing Tom Hardy is to look at) I'm guessing he'll be out of the mask some of the time. (Especially if we see him working out/being badass king of the prison at the beginning *drools*)

Date: 2011-01-22 04:16 am (UTC)And on the Bane front, his whole goal was to "break" Batman physically AND psychologically. He made Batman snap mentally, and THEN busted the spine simply to "kick him while he's down." That beautiful manipulative bastard.
Whoops, my mind is going back to Anne Hathaway. I'll see where this takes me.
