[NO SPOILERS in this post, btw, so no worries!]

Saw The King's Speech last night and it was FUCKING AMAZING! I already had high expectations from 1) the lead cast (Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush, Helena Bonham Carter? How can you go wrong?) and 2) friends' recs. But it was somehow even better than I expected it to be?

AND ALSO EVERYONE THAT HAS MORE THAN 2 LINES IS SOMEONE I RECOGNIZED WTH! UNEXPECTED AWESOMENESS! I knew that Jennifer Ehle was in it (Elizabeth from the 1994 Pride and Prejudice series), but also! Guy Pearce (Leonard from Memento), David Bamber (Mr. Collins from the same Pride and Prejudice, LOL reunion?) and OMFG ANTHONY ANDREWS (Percy from the 1984 Scarlet Pimpernel)!!! AHAHAHA, and I recognized him because-- MOUTH! I was just like, IS THAT REALLY YOU, ANTHONY ANDREWS? IT HAS BEEN (JFC) TWENTY-SIX YEARS SINCE I LAST SAW YOU YOU WERE LAST IN A MOVIE I SAW AND YOU LOOK OLD NOW, AND KIND OF NOT LIKE YOURSELF, BUT... THAT IS YOUR MOUTH!!!! (And then it was!!!)

Ahahaha I apologize for my outpouring of fangirlish squee, but really.

You ABSOLULTELY MUST go see this movie.

On the calmer side of it, it was seriously, amazingly well done. The acting was wonderful (I knew Colin Firth was amazing but really, this was a showcase of his talents). The story was inspiring and heartening and lovely; it has a fucking lot to say about individual strength (courage, humor, hard work, willingness to face hard truths!), and the love and support of true friends/family. And by Jove, it was unexpectedly and delightfully hilarious at times! I do believe the first "joke" Bertie makes sets the tone and is just. fucking. spectacular.

PURE LOVE.

I LOVED THE KING'S SPEECH yesss ♥ and it seemed like such an affirmative, encouraging flip of a sort of 19th-century THE NATIONAL WAR IS THE DOMESTIC WAR sentiment, where the battle at the front encroaches upon the home and makes it a site of unease-- instead, here, that sentiment is taken and overturned by the film's insistence that a victory in the domestic and personal sphere is also a victory in the international arena! I think that is great-- that an entire war can be more or less won in the moment that one man succeeds in merely expressing himself. What a happy movie. ;____;

Cool, will have to check when it's out here.

And man, miss you, too! But it's not your fault - I haven't been around that much lately because RL is a bitch. Which also keeps me away from fandoms *sadface*
Looking forward to the Big Bang, yay! You'll be brilliant!

Also: Guy Pearce? Count of Monte Christo remake from a few years ago...and the only actor who should EVER be considered to play John Constantine
