Caught sight of a tweet by LKH re fanfic policy. In response, I replied with this (have not received any response...yet?). And couldn't help myself so I went to see her other tweets. I really should have known better because then I got to read this and though she doesn't agree with Gabaldon's analogies to criminals/rapists, she does feel similarly.

After a second of a reaction of disgust and disappointment, I realized I wasn't really surprised. Oh, LKH. I love you and hate you with a paradoxical and startling lack of passion.

Maybe it's more that I have become resigned to my feelings about you.

Really? Of all the people to bitch about fanfic, the woman who churns out hundreds of pages of fairie porn is gonna judge? REALLY?

I'm glad I mostly read anime fanfic (and a tiny little bit of TV show fanfic). It's nice not to have to deal with the attitude, whether they're right or wrong.

I gave up on the Anita Blake series by book 8. The porn-to-plot ratio just wasn't working for me anymore.

The whole Gabaldon thing is hilarious to me, as I read a bit of one of her books when a friend recced it and I thought it was nothing but glorified fanfic of the worst Mary Sue kind. Same for LKH... how odd? I think not. They know it, hence their inane arguments and need to "protect" their "art" (oh, please!).

Reading the Gabaldon blogs right now and wow, she sure comes across as deranged (her fictional characters equated w/ real life people, WTF?) and full of herself.
Also clueless... universal copyright, ya, sure.

Gabaldon is really the same as LKH when it comes to Mary Sue-ness. Maybe even worse, as she seems to have problems seeing her characters as purely fictional; surely a symptom of the Mary Sue.

And ya, of course she doesn't address the pertinent points as she's just wrong and that would be like admitting it. I really think this stems from insecurity and not some moral bullshit stance as she claims.

I was a fan of the Anita Blake stuff until Incubus Dreams. And then I realized that Richard's angst, and Anita's angst, and Jean-Claude's angst, and Asher's angst plus all the really boring, repetitive sex (and the serious "Oooh, look at how kinky we are" vibe was starting to piss me off) were just not interesting to me anymore. Same with the Merry Gentry series - I just didn't care about her characters anymore.

So I broke up with her, I've moved on with my life and put that bad relationship behind me...*g*
