my addictions have failed to fail me

finished watching season 3 of slings & arrows about half an hour ago and had the strongest and most random urge to watch hard core logo again. and since I recently bought the DVD for like $6.50 from barnes and noble, I didn't even have to turn on my computer!

i started watching the hcl DVD and christ! the color is sooooo much better!!! I'm fucking DYING -- it's like a whole new fucking movie OMFG!!! \m/

I am actually able to see some details I haven't been able to previously, which is really just brilliant. so yeah, if you were wondering whether it's worth it to buy the DVD when it's just as easily accessible on your laptop? it is.

JFC, REALLY. I DON'T THINK I CAN TAKE THIS MOVIE BEING ANY BETTER THAN IT ALREADY WAS.

I didn't even know they made a movie of hard core logo. Is it like the book?

It's similar but not quite the same. Done in a mockumentary style (though not a comedy), it follows the band on their short reunion tour. The director of the "documentary" in the film is also actually the film's director. There's more plot than the book, and some twists which were not in the book, and IMHO, WAY FUCKING BETTER than the book. They did use the lyrics Turner wrote for a good 7 or 8 songs, which are also really good.

I've had quite a few meaty, analytical discussions about the movie, though not so many making comparisons between the book and the movie. The movie was done in Canada, and released in 1996.

I HIGHLY recommend watching the movie before reading anything about it because there are some very interesting things that would be majorly spoiled (that aren't in the book). However, if you don't care about spoilerage and you're interested in reading some very fangirlish meta and squee, you're welcome to comb through the comments in some of my HCL-tagged posts. =D

What little details did you notice? I just saw there's a huge diff between the widescreen and pand and scan version.

Shamefully, I passed out on the couch in the middle of it, so I'll have to watch it again to tell you details, but I remember just being able to see more detail of what's going on in the scenes before the road trip -- where they're playing that first fundraiser show.

And the difference in color really makes it all pop more!

Will report back as soon as I get a chance to see it again!

Don't pay too much for it, though -- I can always get another copy here and bring it with me when I (eventually) make it over there! =D

I'm, hesitating because I wanna make sure I have the widescreen version WITH the commentary and not sure which DVD was released in Germany.
Need to investigate ;)
