There was a due South fan convention (RCW 139) that ran for a couple of years in the late 90s during the last half of the series, and a couple years after. It revived in 2008, and is scheduled again for this year, August 13-15, 2010 in Toronto.
And I'd just been saying how I'd love to take a road trip to Canada.
Still, I think I'd rather go to a hockey game in Montreal or Toronto than not -- and August is smack in the middle of the off-season. =(

Okay, ALSO, OMG -- there's this awesome band called Great Big Sea who does folk-rock, mostly covers of sea shanties. I heard one of their songs last year, The Mermaid, and absolutely DIED over it (I have to buy/dl more of their stuff). I JUST discovered that The Mermaid was originally written AND RECORDED by Shel Silverstein in 1965 and published in Playboy in 1966 -- which maybe gives you an idea of the (subtle) direction of this particular song...
Shel Silverstein!
How freaking awesome is that?!
