The Pillars of Creation by Terry Goodkind (F):

What a disappointment! Faith of the Fallen, although with it's misses, was an overall hit. Not so for Pillars of Creation, which wasn't even a miss, it was more like a Was the ball thrown? Was there a ball? Was there even a pitcher? Are we at a game? Talk about completely out of the ballpark!

It started with a female character that had not been introduced before; she was a completely new character... and, sorry to say, not something I'd hope to sympathize with. Her male traveling companion was an enemy of our hero of the series, so even if you think you might like him, you're always keeping in mind that he's a bad guy, so you don't really like him. Not that Goodkind gives you the chance, he's always slipping in hints here and there to remind the reader -- just in case you happened to forget -- that he's a bad guy, so no, you can't like him.

So you begin by following their travels and observing their vow to kill Richard (aka, our hero, the only character we're really interested in). And you turn the page, hoping against hope that you'll get back to Richard and find out what he's been doing all this time. Then you turn another page, then another page, and then another. And finally you get to page 328 and you realize that, Dammit! None of this fucking long book is going to be about Richard, is it?!

Then you calm down and tell yourself you got halfway through, you might as well finish the story because the next book will pick up where this one was supposed to have picked up! And then you reassure yourself that you were smart enough not to even consider buying this waste of a good $30 because it was a 600-page sidestory and obviously not part of the main series!

Grrrr.
