A friend sent this article to me. It's great. You should read it: America the Illiterate.

Completely unrelated, and yet in keeping with this theme of pessimism, I had a conversation last night that made me kind of depressed unsure; insecure; vaguely embarrassed. Basically kind of crappy.

Sometimes I think I'm my own worst enemy.

I want to curl up, hide under the covers, and not talk to anyone ever again.

That article sounds scary, and there is truth in it, but I think this is not a new problem in this country. It just seems that the gap is closing a little. Back in the 18th and 19th centuries, there really was no middle class, so there were the wealthy, who were usually literate and wrote profusely, and then there were the poor, who weren't and couldn't.

It's not that I don't agree, not that I don't despair about the lack of literacy that seems to be crushing, especially when I have a genuine love for words, but I think that article blows it out of proportion.

I hope you feel better soon.

Article reading will ensue later. Just wanted to say I'd miss you if you went into hiding! ♥ Feel better, if you need to talk to someone I'm always reachable.
