I woke up later on Thursday than I was supposed to. I had planned to leave at 11am in order to get to the hospital at noon. But I woke up at 11, so there was no way I was going to make it. I guess it really threw me off because I wasn't able to leave the house until 12:30pm and didn't even get to the hospital until 1:45pm. I left at 4pm thinking that Maryann was going to meet me soon thereafter (she'd said that she'd be done at work at 4), and that Angelica would probably get to the city at around 5 or 5:30 because I'd specifically told her the night before -- when she asked if there was a specific time that she was supposed to be leaving home -- that I really wanted her to leave at 4pm because that's when I'd be leaving the hospital.
Of course, I was wrong on both counts. I spent about an hour and a half alone, waiting and walking around between 70th and 80th Streets, and 1st and Lexington Avenues. What fun. When I called Angelica at 4, she said that she would be leaving in about an hour (I'm impressed that she actually got out of the house by about 5:20), and Maryann neglected to mention that she'd be stuck doing clean-up until about 6pm. Sometimes I don't even know why I try. (If you're perceptive you'd be able to see my resigned shrug here.) Lucky for me I had a rum and coke to keep me occupied. Which, of course, didn't last very long.
Eventually I made my way down to Grand Central and over to Book-Off. At least I found something which made me feel a bit better, one of the Weiß Kreuz Dramatic Precious CDs. So that was nice. Angelica called me a little after 6 to let me know that she'd arrived, and she came over to meet me. After a while of browsing, we were ready to go; Angelica said she was hungry, so we were trying to think of where to get something to eat. Then I remembered that Fridays has a happy hour from 4-7pm during the week, so we headed over there. We got two (smallish) Margaritas (with lots of ice) for $2.50 each, and a plate of buffalo wings (minus the massively salty hot sauce) for around $4.50. Which was actually pretty worth it. I only had 3 wings 'cause I'd had a snack earlier, and Angelica devoured the rest. Maryann met us there at around 7:30? Something like that, and we left a little later.
( Con report. Er... concert, that is. )
Of course, this has all created some sort of a monster. I now regularly skim the local club websites for future show possibilities. Well, in all good conscience, I can't really blame it on this particular show. It really all started with last year's Metallica concert (for which I have not yet written a report, but still entertain the vague intention of doing so), which was so amazing. It gave me this weird idea in my head that, like, I have fun at concerts. And wait, I have some money to actually go to a few. I only blame the Three Days Grace concert for giving me this shocking idea that I can go to some cheap and fun concerts. So now I'm seriously scanning for cheap local concerts to go to. The only thing is, I so know that the TDG one was a real fluke; I didn't know that their music was exactly the type that I really love -- that pure rock sound. Some of the stuff that's really popular right now doesn't do anything for me (Blink 182 or The White Stripes for example). I like them, but I wouldn't really be interested in seeing them live. I'm obviously going to have to figure something out.
But speaking of monsters and concerts and such. I might have mentioned that Liz and I are going to the Metallica concert on April 20th. Well, due high demand, they decided to make an additional date at Nassau Coliseum, for the next day. You'll never guess. Angelica bought tickets for two seats to the April 21st concert. LOLOL! So I'll be going two days in a row to see them. Who'dve thought?! She got them on ebay for $90, so she says that my ticket is part of my birthday present. The past few years she's been giving my birthday present this great amount of forethought and planning and stuff. I haven't gotten used to it yet. Just when I was starting to lighten up about getting her birthday gift, she decides to go all paranoid on me. But I already know what I'll be getting her, so I'm not worried about it. I just can't afford to buy it right now.
So I feel like my social calendar is just all filled up.
April 8-11: Anime Boston
April 20: Metallica concert with Liz
April 21: Metallica concert with Angelica
July 29-August 1: Otakon
October 28-November 1: Yaoicon
Actually, with this kind of schedule, I don't know when I'll ever be able to afford her gift. Jeez. And not to mention Angelica's mom found a good deal on plane tickets to San Francisco for Yaoicon, so I'm going to have to start paying Angelica for my ticket (which at $216 is really good but still a lot of money).
Now this has become a babble post, so I will stop. When I've gathered my thoughts more effectively, I'll continue.
