So I did it.
Jan. 9th, 2003 01:04 pmI transferred my web hosting and domain service from Yahoo!Geocities to Aplus.net. Overall, it's only a $15.50 savings per year, but for that little bit of savings, I'm actually getting more storage space (200mb vs. 50mb) and unlimited data transfer vs. 20gb. So that's pretty cool. I do have to admit, though, that the Yahoo! File Manager is simpler and easier to use in certain cases than the Aplus File Manager, but not so much that it's going to stress me. With Aplus, the deal is, it's a lot easier to use an FTP to move files around, etc., but I've gotten so used to moving files around via the Yahoo! website already that it'll take a little getting used to. Of course, the disadvantage is that when I'm not at home I won't have such an easy time manipulating my files as I used to. But at least Aplus has daily backups, which Yahoo! certainly didn't!
I haven't yet cancelled my Yahoo! web hosting service because I'm waiting for the domain to fully transfer over to Aplus. Once it does (which should be 2-3 days from yesterday), I'm going to cancel my Yahoo! service. If I did it right away, koyasunomiko.com would be down until the domain transfers over, and I'd much rather avoid that.
In the meanwhile, I've transferred all my files via FTP to Aplus, and have been adjusting some links which would now be broken. The way that Yahoo! and Aplus set up their subdomains is quite different. It isn't really a big problem, though. The thing that's going to take quite some time is replacing the counters on all the fic pages from the Got Fics? archive. I'd been using Yahoo!'s counters, but now I have to change the code because those won't work anymore. o.O*
One of the other things that's weird/cool is that all of my @koyasunomiko.com email addresses won't be accessible from my Yahoo! account anymore -- so instead of getting the 4 emails accounts (ntp, gotfics, webmistress and sara) into one mailbox (associated with my Yahoo! ID), I will now have to access them separately from http://mail.koyasunomiko.com (which is pretty cool, I have to admit). ^_~ But I have no idea what the mailbox will look like... I wonder if I'll be able to play around with the layout a bit...
