Walking around.
Jun. 19th, 2005 11:00 pmI enjoyed the movie again. It wasn't as good as the first time, but that's because I knew everything that was going to happen already, I think. As I've said before, I thought that the English-speaking cast was a lot better than other dubs I could name (Mononoke Hime, for one), and I actually think that I liked Sophie's English voice actor better than her Japanese one! Surprisingly enough!
Although I've heard some good things about Christian Bale that make me respect him, I have to say that in the later half of the movie (after Howl has his temper tantrum about his hair), I thought his acting could have been better. The Japanese seiyuu for Howl was great! I was pleased with his acting ability, especially in the second half.
While I thought Billy Crystal did a really good job as Calcifer... I adored the Japanese seiyuu for Calcifer. He was more understated than Billy Crystal, and wow! Even though it was the same character-- it's amazing how much difference a different voice can make! Not that Billy Crystal was bad. In fact, I think he was the best from the whole English cast, and besides that, he played Calcifer's role very well. I don't know what it was about the Japanese seiyuu's voice that I liked better, other than it wasn't as, well, distinct, as Billy Crystal's is.
After the movie (to which I went with Angelica and Will), we walked over to St. Mark's and 2nd Avenue, where I spotted Sailor Moon Bitch Girl again! (The bunch of us saw her at last week's premiere of the dubbed version of HMC, at Lincoln Square.) Her hair is dyed black, should anyone be interested. It looks very odd on her, having gotten used to her hair always being blonde for SM cosplay. I wonder if she's not planning to do SM cosplay at this year's Otakon? Or will she re-bleach her hair (or use a wig, although she has very long hair...)? And she was dressed kind of gothy, and it was very odd -- like being in an alternate dimension or something. Twice in two weeks is too often to see her.
We hung around, waiting for Maryann to meet up with us. Lee met up with us a little later, and we sat down at that pizza place on the corner of St. Mark's and Cooper Sq. where we all had something to drink and/or eat. I tried a bottle of Guinness which really wasn't as bitter as I thought it was going to be. Maryann described it as creamy, and it is that. Don't think I like it better than Heineken, though. ^_~
We stayed til it was around 11:30pm, then Angelica went home. Will, Maryann, Lee, and I took the train over to Times Square to pick up Zoila from the cafe she works at. It was really cute 'cause we all surprised her! We went to get a Jamba Juice, but they were closed, so Starbucks instead. Chatted for a while, needed a bathroom, so we went to the Marriott Marquis and snuck into the ladies' bathroom, LOL. Then... I think we pretty much headed home. It was fun, though. Maryann came home with me, then I drove her to her house 'cause she had work the next day and needed a change of clothes, etc.
It was a lot of fun ~ I really love hanging out with Lee & Zoila! They're sooooo cute~! ♥
Maybe this Friday, Maryann and I can find a live music club/bar place to hang out/drink/talk. I know she wanted to earlier this week, but it was bad timing.
