And again, it has been too long since I wrote in this journal. I don’t know what’s wrong with me lately. It’s like I’ve been avoiding writing like the plague. I think I’ve felt a bit frustrated with myself, but still -- it is so easy to write in this LJ, that I’m only cutting off my nose to spite my face when I avoid it.
I, of course, have read several books since I last posted. Mostly, I’ve finished Max Barry’s Jennifer Government, which was really very entertaining. At once, both more and less than I’d expected it to be. I’ve skipped a book in Steve Perry’s Matador series, The Albino Knife, because I have been unable to find it. Instead, I’ve started reading Black Steel, which, as always seems to happen with Perry’s novels, surprised me. For some reason, I always go into it expecting it to be somehow mediocre (I don’t know why, as I’ve enjoyed all of the novels in this series very much). It starts off a bit slow, but after 100 pages in, I realize that I’ve been well and truly snared, and I can’t put the book down.
My birthday has come and gone. And I’m disappointed with myself for not having posted a proper entry on that day, seeing as how it is not only my birthday, but now the 2nd anniversary of the creation of this journal. Happy belated birthday. ^^ It was a singularly uneventful day. A Thursday this year, I worked the morning shift at the store and hung around waiting for Angelica to get out of the evening shift. At least Liz had had the next day off, so she was able to hang out with me instead of having to go straight home to do homework. We went on a few errands, hopped a train over to Chinatown, where I purchased a shorter barbell for my Industrial, with spiked ends. I’ve been wanting one for a while, so I was very happy with that. I also purchased a curved barbell for that hole in the middle of my left ear – the one that always acts up – in the hope that maybe the barbell would irritate it less as I sleep. So far, it has not gotten irritated, but it could be a lull. The damn thing goes in cycles. If, for another 2 whole months, my piercing is not irritated, then I’ll consider the experiment to be a success. Liz gave me the money to pay for the stuff and I considered that her birthday gift to me.
Angelica had offered to give me $50 for those Metallica/Summer Sanitarium tickets a few months ago when they went on sale, but she never did give me the money until now. So that was also vaguely unsatisfying. But I went shopping to make myself feel better. Yes, that’s right. Shopping with money I don’t have. I went to Torrid/Hot Topic, and surfed the clearance section one night (staying up til about 2am), making a list of all the stuff that interested me, and narrowing it down to an amount I could afford to not-afford. Finally, I ended up with 7 items (5 tops, 1 bottom, and 1 pair of Mary Janes). I couldn’t figure out why all the prices were amazingly low, even for the clearance section, but who was I to question? I made my order after consulting Liz, and the total came to $69. (And I even got a completely-unexpected birthday discount! Isn’t that nice of them?) I only just realized that they were having an “additional 50% off clearance items” sale. I think it’s pretty cool that I happened to go browsing when they were, so that I was simply unable to pass up the amazing prices. I mean, I got one shirt for $3.99 – how would anyone be able to pass up on that?
That weekend (Memorial Day weekend), I’d invited Maryann, Louie, and Angelica to sleep over from Sunday to Monday, since we’d all have no work/school. It was lots of fun! I met Maryann at GCS and brought her back to my house; we started watching the B-T Picture Product tapes since she hadn’t seen them before. We got to watch almost all of the first two before Lene and Maryann arrived. Then we finished watching the rest of the 2nd, and watched the 5th before stopping to eat. After that, we played Tekken Tag non-stop for hours! I think something like 7 until 4 in the morning. I’d purchased a PS2 multitap on ebay earlier in the week, for the express purpose of being able to play Tekken Tag (which I also got on ebay) with 4 players. It was amazingly good fun. Can you see a group of 5 girls, giggling into the wee hours of the morning, screaming “Die, you motherfuckingsonuvabitch!” or “Hwoarang won! He gets to be seme tonight!” over the deliciously slashable Tekken characters? (Or, my personal favorite, “Grrr, I hate Nina’s legs, that bitch!”) We also played a little bit of Tekken 4 and Tomb Raider: Chronicles in those last 2 hours.
That next morning, we didn’t really do much but eat a bit of breakfast, then play a little more Tag before going out to eat lunch and drop Louie and Maryann off at the train station.
Since then, however, I’ve been on a massive ebay spending spree. Apparently, the stuff I got for my money’s worth at Torrid created a nightmare because I’ve been hunting for some other clothes on ebay. I came across these amazing camouflage bondage pants in both my size, and one size larger, and ended up sniping the auctions at the last minute – literally – in order to secure the winning bid on both of them. I’m going to try them both on and sell back the one that I like least.
This past Wednesday, Angelica graduated from Hunter College, so her mom gave her (as part of her graduation gift), some money to go get her ear pierced. So on Friday night we went to our usual place, Crazy Fantasy, and she got basically the same spot pierced as I have pierced – the middle hole in my left ear, where the lobe and rim of the ear meet – but in her right ear, and with a straight barbell, rather than a CBR. It’s really cute; you can’t really see the actual barbell on first glance, so it looks like there’s a ball just sort of floating right next to her ear. LOL. I’ll have to post a picture when I remember to take one.
