I'm also a big reader of fantasy (along with military sf, and romance, and a smattering of mystery). Dresden Files is pretty awesome! I used to read YA but I haven't been able to get into it for the last 5yrs or so, though I'm trying because I've heard The Hunger Game is excellent. I started the first one of Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" series, but it's very slow in the beginning. Friends have assured me it gets much better once past the first 100pgs but.... well, I'll have to try again.

RPF is so interesting -- I can't even imagine writing it because I'm so focused on getting characterization right and I feel like it's impossible to do that with celebrities. You said RPF canon is fiction anyway and yeah, I never really thought of it that way. I was never much into RPF until C6D fandom (CKR and Hugh Dillon -- it was practically canon during the Headstones tour CKR accompanied Hugh on just before they started shooting HCL!), and truthfully I'm not really into Inception RPF either, but I'll read Joe/Tom anyway just because well, the pretty, and also there really isn't a whole lot out there.

There are a few fandoms in which I prefer gen. House being the main one since, although I'm not opposed, I don't really pair anyone in the show. I used to prefer gen for SPN but I came around to Dean/Cas really really really late, so that kind of replaced the gen preference. (Honestly I don't read actively in House or SPN fandom anyway.)

I always feel bad skipping over gen stories, though, because I know some of them are probably stories I would really enjoy -- at least, when my favorite character is the POV-centric one. In case you're the same, [livejournal.com profile] winterlive wrote an AMAZING 13k-word gen story about Arthur after Inception. SO well written, and could be interpreted as "pre-slash". =D
