20 cents to list
7 cents etsy commission
40 cent paypal charge
$1.52 shipping
45 cents for a padded envelope
Total costs, not including the item itself: 2.64 That's not even the paper to make the card, ink to print it, and envelope to send it in. I got $3.50 for the sale, and $2.64 of it does not go to me. $.86 isn't even straight profit, because it's basically materials. That doesn't include time to photograph and list the item, communicate with the buyer and package / go to the post office or print postage. Even if her store sells out, I don't see how she can make a profit at those prices.
(Really...I keep the cards there because they sell pretty well and have lots of hearts, but I need to bundle them into packs so they're more profitable).
Sorry to get so long-winded on your LJ, but I hate to see a good artist undercharging themselves!

Date: 2009-02-11 07:43 pm (UTC)See, the reason they're 15 with shipping, is that myself as a fan I wouldn't pay more than that XD I might be an impulsive buyer but i'm also relatively cheap as well. Considering the materials and that the price of one is enough to make several dolls, I wasn't really thinking I was undercharging. Going up anymore somewhat went against my grain since I didn't want to scare any possible buyers away by going like WOO 25 bucks each~
So XD I'm trying to be good and encourage people to buy things, maybe multiple things since there's no multiple shipping fees cos they don't weigh a lot XD BUT your friend there isn't the first to tell me I'm under charging *shrugs* I'm rather torn with what to do in that sense~

Date: 2009-02-11 11:13 pm (UTC)But yes, I've been somewhat hesitant to pimp it out on the big Torchwood comm just yet because I haven't had a chance to sit and read every bit of fine print on the rules as to whether or not I can put my etsy sales up there at all. Also? At ten bucks a doll, I'd be willing to do commissions which hopefully would build a bit of a supply/demand thing which maybe later on I'd raise my prices. I don't want to come off as them being cheap, I feel bad that was someone's first flash that there was something 'wrong' with them :O
Also post pictures! I wanna see your stuff :D

Date: 2009-02-12 06:01 am (UTC)Oh, I was sad to have missed you at NYCC on Saturday. You never called me back! Sad Sara was sad. ;_; I forgive you though! Did Deegan mention bumping into me & Maryann on Friday? That was so weird and coincidental!
I will definitely let you know when I've got pics up!
