EEeeee!

Saturday I went to get my hair cut at the place where my mom got her hair cut last (at the corner of 62nd & Lex). It was the one and only time I ever liked the way her cut looked right after she came home from having it cut, before she did stuff to it or let it grow out. So I figured I'd be fine since I knew pretty much what I wanted.

Why do I even try?

I've never had my hair cut by anyone who did exactly what I wanted. The only time I ever got close was in October when I got my hair cut just before Halloween. Actually, reflecting back, she did a heck of a good job in comparison to anyone else who's ever cut my hair. Ever.

So this person cut my hair, made one side slightly shorter than the other, cut some of the front shorter when I told her I didn't want it to be cut, and ignored the whole back section where I told her I wanted to get it cut shorter. I think she was less concerned with what I asked for and more concerned with her artistic vision of my hair. So when I ended up looking like I was trapped in some horrorific mish-mosh of 50s and 70s hairstyles (a bit puffy, parted on one side, with curled-out ends), I politely smiled, paid, and left, immediately re-styling my hair. Luckily it was raining lightly and so it just looked like I got caught without an umbrella instead of some poor escapee from an Austin Powers film.

I was really upset the whole day; I wanted to go home and wash my hair and chop it all off. But I couldn't because we spent practically the whole day at the hospital. Liz and I left before my mom (who stayed past visiting hours) to go home; by the time we arrived, I was determined. I had prepared for this by buying a pack of thin-toothed combs from Duane Reade, and we already had hair scissors at home. So I washed my hair, sat down, and said, "Elizabeth, this is what I want. Do it." And she did it.

It turned out great. Exactly what I wanted. You wouldn't believe how much happier I was after fixing that hideous cut. I've been saying for years that if only I could see the back of my head and reach it with my hands, I'd cut my own hair and get it perfect. Luckily, I have Liz.

The next day I showed my mom and she said that I should cut a little more from the sides so that you'd be able to see my "cute ears." (Which totally shocked me, btw -- to hear my mom refer to my ears as cute... I couldn't figure out if she meant because of my piercings, in spite of my piercings, or if she just totally forgot about my piercings altogether and really meant that I have cute ears.) But her suggestion was a good one and really what I had been aiming for even if I didn't get all the way there. But since I have Liz at home I can just have her snip a bit more of my hair when we have a chance. And best of all, it's free!

I was also waiting to cut my hair before re-dying it (it was obviously all faded out), but I was way too tired on Saturday night to do it. I couldn't do it on Sunday morning either 'cause I had to go to work, but I did end up doing it Sunday night/Monday morning at 2am while watching this show on the Discovery Channel called Mythbusters (the hosts are really funny and cute, and the show's pretty entertaining). So at least I had a chance to re-dye my hair before it started looking totally gray instead of greyish green.

Of course, I just took those last three pics a few minutes ago, so don't hold it against me that my hair is totally uncombed and all over the place since it's almost 2am!

It feels really weird to have my hair soooo short -- I haven't had it that short since I was 5! (OMG, that's almost 20 years ago. ::sobgag::) But I don't feel as uncomfortable as I know I would if the front of my hair was short too. Keeping the front long might be cheating, but I definitely couldn't cut it. I'd feel totally naked, instead of just half-naked. ^^

Oh, and on a side note. I don't think I mentioned that I had more work added to that star tattoo I had on my back. Now there are more stars, and they start higher and end lower. I'll be sure to post pics after I've had the tat touched up, there are still a few minor details not filled in yet, and if you're obsessive and stare at the pic I might've posted were I not anal, you'd notice them.

You know I've been bad when I even neglected to update LJ with my most recent piercing addition. I know it was some time after Yaoi-con that I got it, but definitely before February. I think it was most likely sometime between December and January. Anyway, the topmost CBR in the cartilage is my most recent piercing.

Lately I've been itching for something else to do with my ears and so I decided on stretching my 12-gauge (first holes in both lobes) to a 10ga. I had been thinking about getting talons or claws, but made of acrylic rather than titanium. But then I read somewhere that it's not a good idea to stretch with acrylic, but I don't really want stainless steel talons/claws, so I thought maybe I'd stretch with a taper, then put in acrylic jewelry. But by then I thought that maybe I'd wait to get the talons/claws until (or if?) I stretched to an 8ga because they'd look a lot better as 8ga talons than 10g talons -- more noticeable and all that. And then I saw these up for auction and I couldn't resist. $10 for 4 pairs of 10ga acrylic plugs with O-rings? That's a really good deal.

I'm waiting for those to come in the mail; I'm going to have a lot of fun wearing the tapers around for a while. I expect that it won't be much of a problem to stretch; going from 12ga to 10ga isn't much, but I like how the tapers look as earrings anyway, so I'll probably leave them in until I get bored, then put in the acrylic plugs. And I'll actually be able to change the plug colors according to what I'm wearing -- oooh, fashionable. ^_~

And then... I was asking Angelica and Louie if they remembered when I got my most recent piercing so I could make note of it in LJ, but they couldn't remember. But then Angelica asked if I was interested in getting another piercing 'cause she's ready for another one. I said that I hadn't thought of that (and I hadn't 'cause I'm about to stretch my ears to the next gauge and I usually count that as a "piercing" when I'm in the mood to do something with my ears), but March 15th is approaching and that's the anniversary of our first cartilage piercing! I want to get something done to commemorate, but at the same time I'm looking forward to the stretching and only having the stretching done, without anything else to detract from it.

What to do. Yes, my shallow musings are definitely back in full force. Well, this is what you asked for when you asked me to start posting in LJ again. ^_~
