Okay, this is the beginning of my attempt to get back into LJ. For a long time -- the past 6 months, at least -- I've only spent about 15-20 minutes at a time on the computer. During this summer, Liz and I were possessed by the video game craze and played every free second that we had together. So when school started again for her in September she pretty much took over the computer once again; homework and all that. And for my part, I've had a lot of books to read so they've kept me entertained.

But we must have just hit a low point in publishers' release schedules because I've only had a few books to read lately and have been pestering Liz again for the use of the computer. Of course, I really have to give all the credit to Liz and Shinjo Mayu (or maybe shoujomagic.org).

Over the past few months Liz has randomly downloaded scanlated manga from IRC. And, as any readers of this LJ might know: once burned; twice shy -- my experiences with IRC were not what you'd call inspiring or even encouraging. But I somehow got hooked onto HanaKimi (that's, Hana Zakari no Kimi-tachi E) and have been bothering Liz to dl all that was available (135 chapters!). So since Liz effectively scouted out the channels to be in... and the scanlation groups... and I witnessed the amazing quickness of queues and dl's... well. It was all set up for me -- I only had to take advantage of it. In these manga scanlation channels, people actually don't mind if you leech! I almost cried tears of joy. One may revisit some of my past complaints about not wanting to leave my computer on for days at a time, trying to dl one freaking episode for which I was number 70-something in queue and who knows if I'd even get close to a send before the person decided it was time to restart their computer and so ensuring that I would lost my spot.

Manga scanlation files are, on average, 4mb each -- taking between 30 seconds and 15 minutes to dl, depending on the file server's modem connection, etc. But even that seems like light-speed in comparison to 200mb episodes! And because the files are so much smaller and so much faster to dl, the queues aren't insanely long. I mean, there are a few people who have queues of 100, but there are 20 other people who are serving the same files with only 5 queues. It's so great! ^^

There was some other stuff I wanted to say about Shinjo Mayu and smut, but it's late and I got distracted talking to Liz (which happens waaaay too often to believe), so I'll just end this entry here.

More updates to come soon. Like, why my father's in the hospital again, among other more superficial things. I think I'm a person who sort of focuses on details, which is why it's sometimes so difficult for me to post entries -- I try to describe every little thing and get bogged down in the details that I can't get across the point of the whole thing. Maybe. I dunno.
