OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!

Okay. ::calms down a bit in order to tell story coherently::

Today I'm working at the store in GCS for Angelica because she's on a trip with her church to Hershey Park. I can't believe how wonderful this is! (Sorry, getting ahead of myself again.) I play a variety of music in the store to keep myself entertainied, mostly stuff I guess you wouldn't expect to hear playing in a children's clothing store -- Metallica, Nickelback, Megadeth, TOOL, but also anime and J-Rock music like Malice Mizer and my most favorite J-Rock band of all, Buck-Tick.

Well, most of the time when I'm playing Japanese music, the Japanese customers who come in don't really notice the music. Of the ones who do, and ask about why an obviously not-Japanese girl is listening to Japanese music, most don't recognize the band or anime that the music comes from -- if they even know what anime is at all!

But today, a young Japanese couple came in with their 2-year old daughter to exchange some sandals they had bought here, but were too big. I had been listening to Buck-Tick's One Life, One Death CUT UP CD and not really expecting either of them to take notice. But at one point -- when the guy was trying a smaller pair of sandals on his daughter's feet -- he looked up at me suddenly (he was crouched by the stroller) and asked, "What is this?" with a confused look on his face. I replied, "It's Japanese." (Well, yes, it was sort of stating the obvious, but it was mostly to confirm his unstated question of "do you realize you're listening to Japanese music?")

Then he asked, "Who is it... Sophia?" Now, that really surprised me because -- as I said earlier -- Japanese people hardly ever recognize their own currently popular bands. So I said -- taking a chance that he'd know who I was taking about -- "No, actually it's Buck-Tick." And he sort of leaned back on his heels and said, "Oooh, Baku-Chiku? They were popular, like 12, 15 years ago... when I was in high school. They're still around?"

And I noddded and said, "Yes, they're still around. They just came out with a new album recently... in March, and they've been on tour. I wish I could afford to go to Japan to see them in concert, but I can't..." Then his wife came closer and said, "Baku-Chiku? They're still around? The ones with the-- (here, she made some gestures to her hair, motioning as if her hair was sticking straight up from her head -- which, if you don't know, was the style they had it in from around 1987 to around early 90)?" And I said, "Yes... although they've changed their hair... but recently they also came out with a 5-DVD set of all their old stuff."

They were both really impressed that Buck-Tick's still around.

I was ecstatic that someone actually recognized my favorite J-rock band and had liked them themselves when they were younger. Kyaaaaaaaaa!

It's so kakkkoiiiiii!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so on the verge of tears right now -- I didn't think it would ever happen -- it's made me so out-of-proportionately happy!!!! After they left, I started jumping up and down around the store, saying "Kakkoii! Kakkoii! Kakkoii! Kakkoii!" And the worst part was -- I wanted to call Angelica to tell her all about it, but she's in Pennsylvania right now! Oh, it's so unfair! And then I wanted to call Liz, so I called home and my mom answered and I asked if Liz was awake yet, but she said no, so I told her all about what happened, just because I had to tell somebody or holding it in would've killed me!

OMG.... ::wipes away tears:: Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

This is even better than that dream I had once about being in Japan and meeting someone who had vintage Buck-Tick T-shirts (that actually don't exist IRL -- at least, not that I know of).
