Adventures in Parasailing
So... I'll be going to Disneyland on Friday with Rich. FUN TIMES, YES? If you have any ride recs, let me know. Basically have been told to ride anything with "mountain" in the name. =D Actually, I did go to Disneyland once before, when I was 17, but jeeeez that was a while ago and somehow I barely remember anything about it other than loving the Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain, and having a suuuuper fun time with Liz even though she dragged me on all the kiddie rides (she was 10 at the time).
So anyway... PARASAILING! In Marina Del Rey a few weeks ago. With
likeaglass and another friend.
elipie was supposed to be there but ahhhhh, the timing didn't work out too well. T_T
Hanging from a harness that falls into a seat shape, clipped onto a bar that hangs from a parachute... 800 feet in the air! It's a lot like skydiving once your parachute has opened. It's beautiful and relaxing and exhilarating. (Can something be relaxing and exhilarating at the same time?) It made me miss skydiving lots, though. But it was a lot cheaper since we had 2-for-1 groupons.

Hmmmm. I wonder if I can come up with some sort of skydiving-related tattoo for myself. I'll have to ruminate on that one for a while.

I was just at Disneyland last weekend! :D I didn't visit the California Adventure park at all, so I have no recs at all for that if you decide to hit that one, but! For the main park, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is -awesome-, and the Haunted Mansion is probably my favorite thing ever (if you're there late, often there is minimal to zero line for this after dark, which I find hilarious), and also highly advocate grabbing a Fast Pass for anything that allows it as early as you can because they run out eventually. They are wonderful, and allow you to, while not entirely skip lines, minimize the amount of time you wait in them. Do this especially for Indiana Jones, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Splash Mountain, and anything big you want to do in Tomorrowland (Star Tours, Space Mountain). The Matterhorn is closed until June, so don't worry about that. ^-^ Pirates of the Caribbean tends towards a line that looks long but moves pretty quickly. Umum. If you aren't devoted to the parades/fireworks shows, sometimes lines for rides diminish drastically while those are going on, but most of Fantasyland closes during the fireworks shows, so don't plan on hitting those rides at that time. I also have a weird weakness for the Jungle Cruise, but that may be mostly my personal nostalgia. XD
Anti-rec would probably be Small World (unless you reaaaally love the song?), because it's really slow and repetitive and slow and repetitive. I guess if you get super-hot and tired and want to just sit down for about fifteen minutes? I think the Tiki Room is better for that though, and you can bring treats in from the Dole stand outside.
Oh, and Main Street stays open for at least a half-hour and probably closer to an hour after the rides close, so if you forget to shop earlier, you still have a chance to do so while the park empties out.
If you feel like it (and have the appropriate smartphone, or are with someone who does), download the MouseWait app. It's kind of awesome for telling you what kinds of waits you can expect all over the park, including for food vendors and such. Don't get married to it, though. XD Sometimes no-one checks in for a long while and it gets inaccurate. Usually it's pretty useful.
Wear good shoes. I had a pedometer on while I was there, and after just five hours had walked almost six miles. XD Don't forget to drink liquids and eat!
Also, have an awesome time! :D I went by myself, and it was still a fun trip.

Wait, are you in LA or California in general? I don't remember where you live! Were you just visiting?
But as for Disney, I did get to go on all the rides I wanted to, and had time for an extra two or three, actually. My favorite ride was the Roger Rabbit Car Toon Spin in Toontown because YAY SPINNING RIDES (and it had even more going on than the teacups, which are also awesome). I love roller coasters (Space Mountain is the best!) but Thunder Mountain Railroad was a little disappointing to me. I THINK I AM JADED.
Indiana Jones was quite amusing, and I was able to pretty much skip to the front of the 50-minute line by doing a single rider pass. THOSE ARE BRILLIANT. And got a fast pass for Space Mountain, which was how I ended the day. Started it with the Haunted Mansion, bright and early at 8:45am with absolutely no line. =D

You should definitely try parasailing if you can! It's really gorgeous and actually very relaxing. And it doesn't have the falling sensation that I think most people are afraid of with skydiving. It's very gradual and floaty~.
I know everyone's fear of heights can work differently because Liz is also scared of heights (escalators used to be the worst, though she's mostly okay with them now) but she went skydiving with me and she even said she'd do it again, though I think her face also indicated that it was a mixed experience for her.
In any case, keep it in mind! =DDD
