Recs: A couple of fanvids to die for.
So I generally don't seek out fanvids. I'm not quite sure why, since I do actively seek out interviews and such, so it's not like I don't know how to do a search on youtube. I just don't seem to have the level of interest as I do in fanfic.
But I do occasionally watch them and in the case of my most recent fandom obsessions, I was lucky enough to find one in each of these fandoms that I think is just SO INSANELY WELL DONE that they are kind of go-to videos whenever I want to ruminate about the characters.
OHYES. Additional fanvid recs are more than welcome!

1. C6D fandom: HARD CORE LOGO - You were the last high byimogenedisease
This video. It simply DEFINES the movie.
If you hadn't watched Hard Core Logo, you'd still get the feeling of the film, I think. With all the insanity and turbulence of the band's relationship, with all the different levels of desire and expectation and rejection and resignation the characters, and Joe and Billy in particular, experience. Of course this is a slash-implied video, but even reading no more into their relationship than a deeply forged symbiosis; a friendship based on co-dependency... it works because that's what the film is about.
The song choice is superb. I think it's truly the vehicle which allows this video to perfectly encapsulate the film. It's probable that there are a hundred other songs with lyrics similar to these, and I'm not a fan of The Dandy Warhols, but JESUS THIS SONG. It contains and expresses so much emotion; the combination of the music, the lyrics -- and then adding in the visuals...
I can't really say enough; just watch it.
2. Inception fandom: Arthur & Eames | under the sheets bythisismycalling
So, in contrast to the one above, this is less a perfect representation of the film and characters and more a really really interesting hypothesis about the characters' backstory in an AU-ish sort of way. I say AU-ish because it does lead up to the canon story of Inception and could totally be a plausible backstory for Arthur and Eames. The song fits the video's story and while it isn't my usual fare, it does have its appeal-- I'd have no problem listening to it on repeat, that's for sure. It also has a melancholic sound that I tend to have a soft spot for (even if it is a female vocalist, which I tend not to like).
But the real beauty in this video is, well, the skill with which the creator is able to put together scenes from so many different movies -- matching styles and settings, telling the story of their past, showing the progression of their relationship, while interspersing clips of where we know they'll end up -- so that it feels like truth.
She calls it a crack vid, so is this all me projecting and making something out of nothing? I'll stick to my interpretation, but let me know what you think.
