the observer effect

Okay people, if you're not already reading this WIP on KMM you really should be. I was going to wait til it got further to rec it, and perhaps I ought to do so, but I have SO MANY ~FEELINGS about it right now, I can't help myself.
Arthur and Merlin both have visions of their happily-married future, but they don't even like each other currently, even if they have the same group of friends.

Ugh, this is why visions of the future are so shitty. It's like reading spoilers for your own life! Now that you've got a hint about what's going to happen, you find yourself noticing things you might not have noticed, having reactions you might not have had. IT'S ALL RUINED.

(If simply observing something changes it, then what, then, becomes of us when we have knowledge of our own future?!)

Without spoiling anything for those who might be interested in this, I will say that I'm loving author-anon's choice to stick to Arthur-POV only -- even though I'm dying to know what's going on in Merlin's mind about all this. I'm finding it very interesting to speculate and worry about all the possibilities, just like Arthur must be doing.

OH BOYS. You can't resist making things difficult for yourselves, can you?

---> Anon's The Future Soon. Modern!AU with magic. WIP (currently at part 8).

IN ADDITION: *bangs head against wall*

I've listened to the music. I've watched the interviews. I SAW THE BEYOND-ADORABLE HALLOWEEN MUSIC VIDEO. And I've... I've read a few Panic! at the Disco fics. It's [livejournal.com profile] likeaglass's fault completely (she happily accepted blame already). But yeah, now I'm asking PATD fans on my flist to rec some fics (or rec posts/archives/etc.) for me as I slowly make a little room for myself in this fandom.

And. And I'm going to their show again -- September 1st at Central Park's Rumsey Playfield -- with [livejournal.com profile] starsparkle333 and whoever else I know that's going. IT'S A 900-PERSON CAPACITY VENUE! I DON'T KNOW, OKAY, I FIGURED OUT WHAT I LIKE AND WHAT I DISLIKE ABOUT THEIR STUFF AND BDEN'S JUST SO PRETTY AND CHARISMATIC AND HIS VOICE IS FUCKING AMAZING. (Oh god, I really like hearing acoustic versions of their stuff.) AND THEY'RE JUST SO ADORBZ WITH THEIR ANTICS AND THEIR FRIENDSHIP AND THEIR MUSIC. WHY ARE THEY LIKE THIS?

WHY AM I LIKE THIS?

So, you know, feel free to send help.

*grin* Ah, bandom fic. And RPS in general. It's such a slippery slope. I'm pretty sure Fall Out Boy fic was my introduction to RPS. As to what constitutes "Bandom," I think it fluctuates. I know what I read: MCR, Fall Out Boy, Panic (and The Young Veins), and a glance at AO3's Bandom category gives a few more names. But don't let lack of familiarity with bands stop you from reading, particularly if it's by an author who's been work you enjoy. I usually make a google search of unfamiliar names to get some background and go on with my reading. Trust good authors to show you the way.

That video was cute, but it underlines why I never picked up Pretty.Odd. Brendon's voice is spectacular, and Ryan's is...not so much. But I love Ryan's way with words. No good ever comes of songwriters wanting vocal credit on albums (see System of a Down); it's akin to trial separation and/or marriage counseling in that by the time you're at that point you might as well start dividing assets and holding down a lawyer. And, like you said, the throwback to the sound of the 60's wasn't working for me. But Fever? Remains my jam.

If you're looking for fic recs, don't even hesitate to ask. I tend to like long stories myself.

You should come to the show on September 1st at Central Park!
I have tentative plans to head down to Dragon-Con this year. If that falls through, though, I'd definitely going to join you guys. Thanks for the invite. :)
