day 08 - a song that you know all the words to

Does knowing all the words to a song mean that you can sing along with it when it's playing, or that you can sing it even without the music?

It took longer than you'd think to come up with one song for this! I know all the words to a LOT of songs, but really only when they're actually playing... I think. Most of the songs I know all the words to are from the 90s, with a good number of 80s New Wave and classic rock in there, too. Basically everything I listened to repeatedly on the radio (or MTV) between the ages of 8 and 17. But I'm not sure I can remember it on command.

Who remembers Possum Kingdom by The Toadies? I hadn't seen the actual music video until JUST NOW WHEN I LOOKED IT UP ON YOUTUBE. I've heard people say it's about a serial killer, but I'm totally sticking to my theory that it's about a vampire lover. (Reminder: Twilight didn't exist in 1994, okay?)

Favorite lines: i'm not gonna lie / i'll not be a gentleman / behind the boathouse / i'll show you my dark secret
(JFC, DO YOU KNOW HOW HOT THIS WAS TO MY 13-YEAR OLD SELF? What am I even saying? It's still fucking hot.)

List of all days.

Doooo you wanna DIE?! Dooo you wanna DIE?!?

Possum Kingdom is a VERY SPECIAL song for me. VERY SPECIAL. Me and one of my best friends sing it to each other all the time. It's kinda our song. That's kinda weird, isn't it...

And I sing it every time I do karaoke. It's the best song EVER to sing when you're all Wastey-Face.

And, yes, the lyrics are kinda creepy but also totally hot. He wants to show me his dark secret!!

I remember hearing this song for the first time in college, playing on a late night program. I caught it a couple of times in part, never actually getting the song title. I spent a lot of time searching for "Give it up to me" on Napster and getting frustrated as hell. I finally had to suck it up and call the station to ask the DJ for the title. It's still one of my favorite songs ever.

And, yeah, it's totally about necrophilia and/or a serial killer. But that makes it all the more awesome.
