We don't want no drama. No no no drama.

There were a few book and movie reviews I've been meaning to post for the last several months. And it's unfortunate, because I don't remember so much about them anymore. Not to mention, there's probably something I've forgotten that I wanted to post about.

Jim Butcher's Small Favor. Excellently done. Oddly, I felt much the same about this latest installment of the Dresden Files as I did Captain's Fury. I think that the books immediately preceding these in their respective series were SO GOOD that these books seemed slightly disappointing. But not really! They were more plateaus than better or worse. So while I thoroughly enjoyed Small Favor, I was sort of left wondering why I wasn't all worked up about it. Really, I know exactly why this one wasn't "as good" as White Night. NOT AS DARK. Boy, I'm easy. I love me some angst. (Fictional only, please.)

Julia Quinn's The Lost Duke of Wyndham. It seems that every time I go through a reading dip, whenever it is I'm ready to get back into it, Julia Quinn has another book out. Which is more than fine with me. Her historical romances are one of the few I will still read. Her last few have not been as funny as her earlier works, but this latest one was certainly a return to the right path (or at least the path I prefer). There were a couple of times I had to stop myself from laughing or I'd end up coughing up a lung.

LKH's Blood Noir. No, "noir" had absolutely nothing to do with the story. It was pretty much a novella that was extended to novel-length. It has a lot of Jason, so if you're into Jason, you might be more pleased. I wasn't uninterested and I also wasn't completely disappointed in the book, but I think that's more because my expectations of LKH's books have taken a serious nosedive more than the possibility that the book was actually entertaining.

Some Amazon reviewer was really ripping it to pieces and I agreed with a lot of what she said, but some of it I didn't. Like, something about how LKH brings Richard in to "remind" us of the reasons we "should" hate him, but that it doesn't work. I practically spit on the screen I was so dumbfounded. I would love to argue with this person face-to-face (because you just can't get into a good argument online) about Richard. Not so much that she's wrong in her opinion, but that her opinion isn't everyone's and that when she writes a freaking review on Amazon, she should stick to stuff that's slightly more objective. I realize that even criticism of LKH's writing "style" isn't exactly objective, but I feel like there's more to critique there than just the fact that you like Richard and you're whining because the author is writing him in a way you don't like. Bitch, please.

You may be pleased? to hear that there isn't as much sex in this particular installment. I might unfortunately have to inadvertently agree, at this point, with the stupid Amazon reviewer when I say that the plot was so much like a sitcom script that I think I would have welcomed more sex and less plot. The "big reveal" at the end was clear to everyone but Anita from practically chapter one. I think LKH may be losing her grip on non-sex plots nowadays.

Damn, her husband must be fucking awesome in bed.

Ironman. Awesome. If you haven't seen it, go see it. Best part: Stark's interaction with his robots. <3333!

Spiderman 3. Just saw it for the first time on Monday night. Why did everyone hate this movie? I thought it was pretty good. Especially the emo-Peter parts. OH MAN HE'S HOT WITH HIS HAIR DOWN THAT WAY~!!!! Not as much action, which was too bad, but I really loved all the parts with the Venom suit. It's kinda too bad Peter couldn't have kept the "black" Spidey outfit (and attitude) for a little longer. Ahh, what fun.

I also saw the end of The Prestige again. I really do love that movie. The end is SO PERFECT. SO VERY PERFECT. If you have not yet seen it, I highly recommend that you go and see it ASAP!

As for last weekend -- Johncon was pretty darn awesome! =D It was actually the perfect weekend to be out there. It must have been 5-10 degrees cooler out there than in the city AND (more importantly) there was a pool! =D Lots of pool-related fun occurred, including noodles and swords... and other foam phalluses? (Is "phalluses" the plural of phallus?)

In any case, extreme fun was had! Thanks so much, John, for hosting us (and for inviting me)!

Also? Various barbecued meats were YUMMY!!!

In addition, the rental car I got was a Ford Fusion. It had a sunroof. Which was pretty cool. AND a 6-CD CHANGER! That could READ MP3 CDs! So the playlist was awesome.

Joe and I made a music exchange -- he lent me his 311 Best-Of CD and I gave him a copy of Warp 11's Red Alert. Joe and/or Morgan -- you should let me know what you think!

The only bad thing is that Sunday I woke up with the beginnings of a cold that totally hit me by the time I got home Sunday evening. Went to work Monday but stayed home from work Tuesday. I started to feel better some time after lunch yesterday. And today I've felt pretty consistently well. I still have a cough and congestion, and I'm still a bit more tired/achy than usual, but I'm definitely on the mend. ^^
