But it was worth it.

Friday night weirdness ensued when half the power in the house went out (oddly enough, all the power was out except for the TV outlet, so Rock Band was still able to be played... in the dark, except for the one lamp that's plugged in next to the TV), and was mirrored outside where you could see that half the block had power and half didn't. I took advantage of this opportunity to scare Maryann, which never gets old =D It's really too bad she wasn't at Anna's place on Sunday when the winds of hell blew the balcony door open abruptly as I know she would have been across the apartment in 1 second flat, possibly even clinging to the ceiling. And then when the TV turned off by itself -- ahh, what missed opportunities!

Saturday, Maryann and I went over to Judy's. Not surprisingly, we headed out a little later than we intended, but Judy got super-wasted the night before, so it worked out alright. I finished that damn Little Sister dress some time around 1am, I think! It was kind of fun to put on a dress that so obviously looks like a 5 year old should be wearing it. ^^; It was white at the time, but Judy soaked the dresses in coffee for a dirty look, though she wants to add "blood splatters" & etc., so we still have finishing touches to add. Maryann is helping us out by making a Big Daddy plushie, which I have named Mr. Bubbles, which is only fitting. He's coming along nicely. =D

We didn't get to sleep til around 3am, and woke up the next day a little before 10am to get to the New Year Parade in Chinatown, which was quite fun. Ate some decent food and actually got a decent view of the parade. I took lots of pictures, of which I may post one or two later. Maryann bought 2 "poppers" and we exploded them, which was exciting. And Judy bought a box of snaps, which I was extremely happy about as I miss sitting out on my old fire escape and throwing them down at people. Ah, nostalgia~. ALSO! I GOT MY WATCH BATTERY CHANGED, FINALLY! YAYE~!

Met up with Anna after the parade and went to her place to discuss Cosclips business. Which was probably 75% hanging out and 25% discussing business, but still, we discussed what we had to. Jim was cool and drove us all to our respective houses, for which I was extremely relieved because if I'd had to go home by train/bus from Manhattan at midnight when we got to Judy's, or at 1:30am, when we finally called it a night, it would have taken me at least 2 hours to get to Queens, plus a cab ride from the subway station to get home -- in the bitter, bitter cold, and with 3 bags, 2 large umbrellas, and a partridge in a pear tree.

Instead, it took twenty minutes, so I got home at 2am, and it was a nice toasty car ride on the extremely deserted highway. =D

Though, of course, that means I didn't get to sleep til 3am because Maryann was still up when I got home. Hahaha.

Even so, I was so full of energy -- I had a really fun time all day yesterday, and I probably could have stayed up for another hour or two, but I was well aware it was Sunday night and I had to be in decent shape for today. Good thing, too, because I've been insanely busy since around 11:30 or so. I was very sleepy during those first two hours of not having much to do. And I'm feeling a bit tired again now that it's almost quittin' time, but I have Japanese class soon...

Some confusion about Objectivism.

After lots of stuff about Objectivism in pop culture lately, I've become more curious about it. Terry Goodkind is an objectivist, but from what I'd heard tell about Objectivism, I couldn't quite reconcile Goodkind's fantasy series about the value of life and compassion, with the extreme viewpoint depicted in Bioshock and what Austin had described of it.

So I went to the Wikipedia article about Objectivism, and from what it describes, it seems mostly rational.

Now, it could be that Rand's stance is the extreme one, and what's described in the article is the moderate stance, and maybe Goodkind is kind of doing an "I intellectually agree with Objectivism, but I'll throw in a healthy dose of compassion" (and whether that's because he's a compassionate person, or because he's smart enough to know that people generally prefer epic fantasy series with compassionate protagonists, I don't know).

Sean, could you ask Austin to write me an email/facebook msg/LJ comment on this, if he doesn't mind? I know I've asked him to explain before, but now that I looked up some more info, I'm more confused. And I know he likes to talk about philosophy anyway~.

And actually, anyone else on my flist who might be able to shed some light on this is welcome to comment.

[edit: Just saw that they'd announced at the end of July 2006 that Sam Raimi had optioned film rights for the Sword of Truth series. According to imdb.com, the TV mini-series is in pre-production and is scheduled for release in 2008. How weird is that.]

How many boyfriends does it take to change a light bulb?

More than the two that were available, apparently, so I stood on a chair and did it myself. Obviously, the combined efforts of the 6' and taller club were not enough. ^_~;

Aside from that, the party went off without a hitch. The first floor/living room was the most crowded and gamer-fied it's ever been and probably ever will be (until I have my own living room, that is), with three TVs hooked up to three different consoles and all of them in use. I know that may be par for the course for some, but I was proud of my little gamer party on Friday night.

Using the adapter for the PS2 guitar controller to the PS3 console was a failure. We ended up playing the PS2 version of GH3. Not that I played all that much. In fact, at one point I was mostly hanging out with Raquel, showing her (and dying miserably and frequently in) Bioshock. And then showing her some of Portal, which was lots of fun, and later Guitar Hero 3. Later I saw Maryann helping Raquel to play and thought that it was awesome that even though Raquel is no where near a gamer, she was willing and excited to try stuff out! Raquel's really cool.

A bunch of the guys had Halo 3 going for a while, and there was also some imported Bleach and Naruto game action going on as well.

It was also really nice that my co-worker Aimee and her boyfriend Steve showed up on a last-minute invitation -- all the way from Staten Island, no less! They were very cool and I think they enjoyed hanging out and gaming with everyone. =D

I had a really awesome time, so I really want to thank everyone who showed up! And so now I will list everyone because people like to see their names in lights, right? [livejournal.com profile] loudnbothered, [livejournal.com profile] thedreamerworld, [livejournal.com profile] ddrkaiba, [livejournal.com profile] blackmage137, [livejournal.com profile] rathshakar, [livejournal.com profile] mailliwkuraido, Raquel, Aimee, Steve, Will and Jerry. And, of course, [livejournal.com profile] inbredchocobo and [livejournal.com profile] metallicapixie, who don't exactly count.

Only two members of the NoE crew actually made it, but they seemed to have gotten along very well with NA, so I have hope for possible future encounters as well. =D

I'd post some of the few pics that were taken, but most are blurry.

And on a slight side note, I use the word "awesome" way too much. >_<;

"I'm not even angry. I'm being so sincere right now."

I've been listening to the "unofficial" Portal soundtrack on repeat since I downloaded it Monday morning. It isn't a very long tracklist, and a lot of it is a little slow and slightly boring, but I listen to it on the train going in to the city in the morning, so I'm asleep most of the time. And I enjoy it while I walk over to my building. Sometimes I skip ahead to "4000 degrees Kelvin" which is the first track with a faster beat.

This morning, however, I decided to add some other game music to my playlist -- the soundtracks from American McGee's Alice (which I'm dying to see/play), Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 4. And then I put it on shuffle.

Guess what track played after "4000 degrees Kelvin"?

Amazingly, "Traversing the Portals of Reality" from the Silent Hill 4 soundtrack.

It's a sign. Of what exactly, I don't know. But.

Portal is amazing.

For anyone interested in an "unofficial" Bioshock soundtrack (which includes the full score by Garry Schyman, ambient music, music from radios, voice over text, journals, and the Moby remixes), I think you'll want to visit this post.
