All of the most amazing fic right now are WIPs. WHY ARE THEY SO FUCKING GOOD AND WHY ARE THEY UNFINISHED?!?!!! WHYYYYYYYYY. *sobs* I'm tracking all these like a mofo, but in case you don't have a paid account, you can get updates on several of these by following @inceptionwips, a twitter account created by some smarty-pants anon to whom we shall be forever grateful!!!

  1. [livejournal.com profile] gyzym's Hollywood AU (at 10k+ words in part 1/? now complete, 2 parts, ~21k words)

  2. Anon's prompt fill that sounded like a PWP but became EPICLY AWESOME CASEFIC (at 62 66 71/?)

  3. [livejournal.com profile] skellerbvvt's utterly ridiculous and delightful dating!fic featuring a too-cute=for-words dachshund puppy named Cigar! <3 (at 58 67 now complete at 70 parts)

  4. [livejournal.com profile] analogized's asdlkfjasldjkfsaldkfj dom!Arthur/Eames light-BDSM fic which is so full of hnnnngh I cannot possibly be more coherent about it. (at 16/?)

  5. [livejournal.com profile] cobweb_diamond's drunk commentfic that turned into awesome h/c jungle!fic, but like, with hints of military background and secondary, original characters and other awesomeness? (Because I'm normally really not a big fan of h/c fic...) (at 20 31 37/?)

  6. **[livejournal.com profile] cobweb_diamond's kissing!meme fill that's a Time Traveler's Wife AU (at 3/?)

  7. **Anon's prompt fill for clinically-depressed!Arthur (at 11/?)

  8. [livejournal.com profile] whiskyrunner's prompt fill for asexual!Arthur (at 1 3 now complete in 4k words)

  9. [livejournal.com profile] bauble's epic organized crime AU (at 1/3)

  10. Anon's absolutely spectacular newspaper AU! (at 6/?)

** I have little to no expectation that these particular starred fics will actually be finished, but THEY'RE STILL FUCKING WORTH READING! The other fics are regularly updated or by people who generally finish fics.

And on the subject of fics that explore asexuality: I have a thing for them I never before knew I had? With the proviso that I'm talking about well-written fic in general, here, I think I have a kink for this particular topic because whether or not there's any actual sex involved, it's more about understanding and communication than anything else. I suppose it necessarily includes some of that delicious Victorian UST... and angst because it's one-sided... but there's still a real connection. Anyway, here are two by the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] acidpop25, who writes it so amazingly well:

  1. Leading with my heart (Arthur/Eames)

  2. Cold (Theodore/Blaise) -- I should explain that this one is a... it's a... it's a Harry Potter fic. One of the two HP fic I ever felt the urge to read, and of course this one is two minor characters I had to call several people to ask so I had even an inkling of who/what they were before just diving into the fic anyway. This is one of the most romantic, angsty, sad, beautiful fic I've ever read -- and to bring it right around, it's so full of understanding that I-- I can't even articulate? Just read it. <3

ETA: I know that [livejournal.com profile] blue_soaring wrote an awesome asexual!Holmes/Watson, but I've got to go find it...

I may or may not have tracked a fuck of a lot of new prompts over in Round 10. Now, every time I see unread emails in my inbox I get my hopes up, but yeah... it's just junk mail.

Still neck-deep in Inception fandom. You know, in case anyone was worried about me or anything. Judy has been away this entire week and I have reveled in having the house to myself, though I've been crazy busy and not been able to properly take advantage of it.

Because of someone's prompts and [livejournal.com profile] knowmydark's beautifully brilliant and poignant fills, I've discovered Richard Siken's amazingly intense poetry, like you can hardly bear to stop reading once you've caught a line. I highly recommend all of her fic, but in particular her Siken-esque ones: Crush, Little Beast, and Parentheses All Clicking Shut Behind You.

I'm waiting for Siken's book to be delivered to my house... possibly today. In the meantime, someone on my flist mentioned Josh Lanyon's novels; many (or all?) of which seem to include a gay protagonist. I admit to being curious, so I downloaded a bunch of his Adrien English mysteries and have read the first two in the last two days. The mysteries aren't the most complex or interesting I've ever read, and the second one, A Dangerous Thing, reminded me in some ways of Lanyon's own (self-mocking?) comparison to a Scooby-Doo mystery. There is an element of breaking fourth wall boundaries (which I have an undeniable weakness for) in that Adrien is a mystery writer and often references older mystery series and writers which have influenced his own novels; thinking of parallels in plot and character devices even as he uses them to manipulate the reader. Though it isn't a particularly subtle or layered attempt, so I'm not sure how much a credit this is to his talent. The third book won an award, however, so I suspect he gets better as it goes on.

In any case, what I like in particular is the protagonist, and how Lanyon chooses to write him; what his personality is like, what kind of choices he makes, as a gay guy, etc. I'm sometimes uncomfortably aware that girls writing gay guys in relationships can be a bit skewed, though to some extent people are people and personalities range from everything under the sun and I've never thought one couldn't write the other gender truthfully. I can differentiate between well-written, believable characters and vehicles for porn and/or Mary Sues. Believe me, I can differentiate. Still, I was curious. The books so far have been light, quick reads, but have been quite satisfying and I'd definitely recommend them to slash fandom (though not for anyone solely looking for a difficult mystery).

And now on to something completely different.

TONIGHT. TONIGHT I GO TO ANOTHER RANGERS GAME! So excited! This is my first one in a WHOLE MONTH. (Oh... well, except for the one I went to while in Chicago. But does that count? Because it wasn't the Rangers, it was Chicago vs. St. Louis?) Jesus, you do not even know how addictive it is! For the rest of the season I'm going to two games a month every month except March (and who knows if I'll be able to resist when it comes down to the wire).

Halloween is this weekend! In stark contrast to every other year I haven't really done a whole lot for it. Most everyone is gone or maybe doing something else, there's no Nerd Avengers Halloween Party this year... which is LAME, and I fully blame Maryann and AJ because they agreed to do it, but then they decided to go the rally -- whatever, guys!

But there is the Roller Derby Championship bout on Saturday, so that's awesome! AND I EXPECT THERE TO BE LOTS OF DRINKING AFTERWARDS! \o/

However, since [livejournal.com profile] honeymull is visiting on Sunday and she and [livejournal.com profile] cathybites may end up going to the parade... I might scrounge up a super-quick costume and go along with them!

What are YOU doing this weekend?

[livejournal.com profile] gyzym's domestic!verse epic, Wherever You Will Be (That's Where I'll Call Home), for Arthur & Eames.

It is actualfax the best thing EVAR. I-- I can't get enough of it. I cry internally at the thought that there might not be more; that one day she'll slip out of the hooks in which Inception fandom currently has her ensnared. HER WRITING IS FUCKING AMAZING, GUYS. FUCKING AMAZING!

When I stumbled into C6D fandom, I came across a fandom discussion over established relationship vs. first-time fic. Overwhelmingly, it seems, preference lies with first-time fic. And I can totally understand that tendency. I feel like first-time fic is easier to do well; there are certain road markers that are kind of failsafes. But established relationship -- when it's done well, it shines. It gives me the worst sort of heart-clenchingly hopeful feeling (the kind that I hate admitting to). And while we're on that subject, here are two other series that do the same, in my two other favorite fandoms:

GUYS, DO YOU REMEMBER (the former) LYS AP ADIN'S Mission Suburbia (1x2, Gundam Wing) domestic!verse series? THIS IS KIND OF LIKE THAT, OH GOD. [ETA: OMFG THIS IS 10 YEARS OLD. JFC, I've been in and out of fandoms for a loooooong time.]

And last, but in no way, shape, or form least; my favorite domestic 'verse series in the only other fandom in which I write: C6D, of course. I suppose the first fic in the 'verse is a first-time fic since Mike (Sweeney of Durham County) and Ray (Kowalski of due South) get together in the beginning but most of it takes place after that and is very domestic. [livejournal.com profile] sionnain and [livejournal.com profile] waltzforanight's What Else Would You Have Me Be? 'verse. (Warning: heavy on the BDSM!)

The awesome thing about established relationship fic is that there are still so many firsts to be had.

[livejournal.com profile] tequilideas wrote this amazingly HILARIOUS fic which is basically suit porn for people even remotely enamored of menswear at Fashion Week. EVEN IF YOU DON'T READ ARTHUR/EAMES, YOU SHOULD JUST CLICK ON ALL THE LINKS TO HOT GQMFs IN SUITS, JFC!

Because, basically, CAN YOU PICTURE T-Hard IN THIS SUIT WITHOUT SPONTANEOUSLY COMbustING?! No, I think not!

My everlasting thanks to [livejournal.com profile] cathybites for indulging my ridic PS request. Oh yes! Here's the original.

To actually read through 45 pages of prompts over on the Inception kinkmeme? That didn't actually mean I had to go and track a million interesting-looking prompts. MY MAILBOX IS OVERFLOWING WITH FILLS AND COMMENTS. WHYYYYYYYY.

SELF, YOU ARE FULL OF PLEASANT AND FAILY IDEAS.

Ahahah, in case anyone is wondering I did actually make it to my friend's place in Chicago alive and well. Serendipitously, I met up with another [livejournal.com profile] wincon fangirl who was taking a cab to the Metra station so I was all "YAY SPLITTING COST TO TRAIN STATION" but then the cab driver asked where we were going and long-story-short he drove us into the city and it basically cost each of us the same as if we'd taken the cab to the Metra station separately. \o/

The whole weekend has been absolutely full of win and fun times and awesome people! And I totally forgot what it was like to fangirl ridiculously about ridiculous things with, like, A WHOLE HOTEL FULL OF SIMILARLY-MINDED PEOPLE. If Wincon is in New Orleans next year I'm so there.

Also, HI NEW PEOPLE! Thank you for making my first Wincon a totally awesome one where I did not feel awkward and left out! You maybe possibly want CATBOY!ARTHUR FICS & ART, Y/Y? YOU NEED IT. TO LIVE. IT'S NOT AS CRACKY AS YOU THINK IT IS.

Tonight I'm going to the CHI v. STL game with [livejournal.com profile] faithbeckett which is going to be AWESOME. Yeah, you'd think I'd be excited to see the hotness that is MUCH OF THE BLACKHAWKS TEAM in person -- and it's true 'cause goddamn, I hope Sharpie and Toews and Kane and Keith each get a million goals -- but I HOPE I SEE JD. <3

I'm watching Inception again right now for the first time in weeks and weeks. (Okay, so maybe it's only actually been like 2.5 weeks since the last time I saw it. DETAILS.)

In any case. Basically. This post is just to say that [livejournal.com profile] mami_san WINS THE FUCKING INTERNETS FOREVER AND EVER. AND EVER.

Her Arthur-centric fic The Music Makers is SO FUCKING ON-TARGET for Arthur and Eames, and Cobb even. JESUS FUCKING CHRIST. If it wasn't already my personal canon, it would be now. Watching the movie, all I can think of is YES. THIS IS HOW THEY GOT HERE. THIS IS EXACTLY HOW THEY CAME TO BE.

If you're open to an origin story for Arthur and Eames that is so fucking good I don't want the gen (as in, no slash) to end (and it still hasn't, really, as of chapter 9 out of ?) PLEASE GO READ IT RIGHT NOW. It follows the canon story, which Nolan has indicated in interviews &c (that they both have military backgrounds and were rivals of a sort). IT WILL BE WORTH IT. I ASSURE YOU. It's gritty, creative, well-researched, well thought-out, well written, realistic, believable. It's unfinished as of yet, but it's so good that even if she never finished it from this point on IT WOULD STILL HAVE BEEN WORTH IT.

HOW IS SHE SO GOOD? HOW DOES SHE KNOW THEM SO WELL?

I POSIT THAT SHE KNOWS THEM IRL.

OHMYGOD.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Despite -- or maybe because of -- having been part of the Gundam Wing fandom in its early days, and dipping into the Weiß Kreuz fandom only briefly, before dropping out of fandom kind of altogether, I was never really involved with any fandom in which a newsletter was a thing.

I still have [livejournal.com profile] spnnewsletter on my friends list, but I'm not sure why since I've never really used it. Though I only very, very recently started reading some SPN fic.

In any case, AS YOU MIGHT HAVE ALREADY GUESSED, Inception fandom has pretty much taken over my life. Like one of my colleagues said today when we went out to get lunch (and referring to Being John Malkovich, I think?), "Instead of John Malkovich or Sara [redacted], in your mind it's like INCEPTION INCEPTION TOM HARDY TOM HARDY INCEPTION TOM HARDY." Yeah, NGL, I think that was a pretty accurate statement. And I try SO HARD to tone it down at work. (Whatever, it's only because we're friends outside of work and maybe also because he follows me on twitter that he's so aware of my obsessions.)

Anyway, when [livejournal.com profile] cathybites asked for help doing a daily newsletter for the fandom, I didn't really know what I was getting into, but I wanted to be part of it! And so...

tl;dr [livejournal.com profile] inceptiondaily
